@@ShadowFungus I agree, I am familiar with the actor and he was amazing in it. I know he played salieri in Mozart. He played a very cool and tragic character, who sacrificed his life to save his friend and basically the world. To be fair, he had cancer but still, he was a hero

The autopsy is an extremely good episode and the fact that the episode marked everyone so much in less than an hour is remarkable

I think the murmuring was the best acted one. The scene where they’re talking about how they feel was so fkn good.

For me it was the Rats. Climbing deeper and Deeper not knowing chich way is out...tighter and tighter tunnels....then he finds the ancient black church....so scary

@@BrainPilot well not only was it dark but it gave a glimmer of hope. What made it so good was that he won, sure yes at the sacrifice of himself, but he won. The alien said that he blew up his ship so there would be no trace of his species, so humanity couldn't find out about them. But him being recorded and being trapped in a cage of a body only cemented the discovery of his species.

The murmuring is actually my favorite, the pacing is slow yes but the scary moments were definitely the creepiest in the series. Only 15 minutes? We wouldn't have experienced the mystery and tension between the husband and wife imo. 15 minutes is too short imo.

I liked the murmuring as well because it had great storytelling and it was the only story where you led to believe it was somewhat grounded in reality

The autopsy was such a good episode!! I feel was the only one that both delivered on what promised 100%, used their full time perfectly and was a decent from mystery the horror very well done My problem with most of the episodes was that half felt they could have worked better being one third shorter in time (maybe even just 30 mins) and the other half, full movie time to really explore their ideas and horror of choice

Murmuring was really emotional for my mom who is a zoologist. She lost my eldest brother when he was still 2 years old. I suggested her to watch it, she loved it, and is now waiting for s2.

How could the Murmuring be so far down on the list? It was just beautiful, haunting and poetic. Below Graveyard Rats?? Damn son!

To me, The Outside stood out for the incredible performance by the lead actress and the spectacular cameo appearance by the ultra-talented and drop-dead gorgeous Dan Stevens. Brilliant.

The viewing- was the worst by a long shot. At least the others made sense. That one was so boring.

Loved how every episode was different. Amazing special effects and soundtracks. Great design with the monsters as well. 1 - The Autopsy 2 - The Viewing This episode made me feel I was high or on some drug trip. Honestly, when the episode finishes I felt like I was pulled into reality and I felt so confused. Loved the soundtracks in this particular episode. 3 - The Murmuring I actually felt a little fear watching this episode because of the stereotypical haunted house and supernatural element. I cried when the boy had to go into the light I felt the emotion. Felt the connection was more towards the boy and not the mother. Hence, why we felt no connection to her. 4 - Dreams In The Witch House 5 - Lot 36 6 - The Outside I thought it was very clever how they took the beauty industry and made it horror. 7 - Graveyard Rats 8 - Pickmans Model Honestly, the worst episode for me. Found it extremely boring and lacklustre. Story was not original or different compared to the others. Boring story I have seen before. They could of gone further with the story.

My Top 3: 1. The Viewing, it just totally captured my senses. Altough i was a little bit disappointed by the ending. 2. Pickmans Model, for me the most horrifying one. 3. The Outside & The Autopsy

It comes late but my ranking 1. Autopsy 2. Murmuring 3. Pickman's Model 4. Lot 36 5. Dreams of the witch house 6. Graveyard rat (because i had nightmares and i liked the two foreshadowing) 8.The viewing (the end was boring for me)

I would say my top 2 are Pickman's Model and The Viewing. Those stories resonated with me the most. The Autopsy and The Outside are right after though!

@@etceterax144 The idea of a work or art (or literature, or cinema, or whatever)...coming alive in our heads and changing our behaviour is an inherently interesting one to this long-time reader, listener of operas, reader of world literature and so forth. We already know they do, just to a lesser extent. What if that was taken to an extreme? The basic idea from Lovecraft was that the artist was indeed drawing what he actually saw in life...now what if what he drew *created* reality too?

The autopsy plot was new no one can imagine that it could be. Internal fight between doctor & alien was ossm. Nyc story, supv acting & brilliant direction.

Totally agree with 'The Autopsy' being at the top of your list, it was pretty damn awesome. I kinda expected it would be good, having seen director's earlier movie The Empty Man last year, without a doubt a superb horror flick.

It was very, very good!

Pickman's Model was my favourite, the autopsy comes second. I could have gone with the autopsy as my favorite but Pickman's Model had a grasp on me, it just felt deep, dark and ruthless. The autopsy's villain was outplayed well, I love how his hubris killed him.

watching the series now, and so far, i am not disappointed!!.. i think the Horror Genre , will eventually have to become like this... because nothing scares people anymore.. but when watching great minds come together to make a series of different tales, its like listening to Campfire stories at Summer Camp.

Every episode was good except 6 (Ron Weasley) and 8 (boring af) My favorite was 1 (scary af) and 7 the end was so not planned and then shit went down real fast

If you didn't love Outside, you could probably use a case of Aliglo.

I loved "the murmuring" and "the autopsy" and "Pickmans model" the most. "The graveyard" rats was a fun. "The outsider" was okay and so was "lot 36". Hated the ending to "the witches house" and "the viewing" was far too slow.

So happy to see this ranking video. Although I have quite a different arrangement of things, I loved seeing your perspective and have found an appreciation for the merits of some of the episodes I wasn't that fond of myself (other than Dreams in the Witch House. Still can't stand that one). 1.) Pickman's Model. I know that, objectively speaking, The Autopsy is a better episode - tighter story, truly horrific body horror elements, stellar acting from Abraham, more original concept, but...I just love the subject matter of Pickman's Model too much, and to me the ending actually improved on the Lovecraft story. I adore it when a writer has the guts to kill children, since the way they're 'off limits' makes so much horror predictable and toothless, and the chopping vegetables/fingers scene was truly creepy. As a former art student and lover of Goya's Disasters of War series (in addition to loving Picture of Dorian Gray), and a fondness for the time period, personal bias made Pickman's model an easy sell for me. 9/10 2.) The Autopsy. In addition to the points above, the ending was delightfully bittersweet and satisfying. 9/10 3.) Graveyard Rats. Not seen much love for this one, but the darkly humorous tone was really refreshing and the cyclical nature of the story was very well executed. Yes, the giant rat looked goofy as heck and the cult element seemed shoehorned in, but other than that I found this episode highly enjoyable and entertaining. 8/10 4.) The Outside. Quite a conventional morality tale really, just needed more of a punch at the end. 6/10 5.) The Murmuring. Dull story and lacklustre direction elevated by wonderful acting and beautiful cinematography/shots/backdrop. 4.5/10 6.) Lot 36. Very predictable and the racism element was delivered with all the subtlety of a hammer to the face. True eldritch potential and I love the premise of buying an empty lot with no idea of what lurks within, but this episode was the only one to make me laugh out loud at the stupidity of Roland just standing there and waiting for the demon to eat/dismember him. 4/10 7.) The Viewing. Truly awful pacing. 30 minutes with no action or real plot development. Setup too drawn out, almost to an excruciatingly dull degree, payoff far too rushed and any horrific elements borrowed from far better media (face melting from Raiders of the Lost Ark, head exploding from Scanners). 2.5/10 8.) Dreams in the Witch House. By far and away the worst episode; the only one to be truly bad. Butchered the original Lovecraft story, woeful acting from Grint and not much better attempts from the rest of the cast, and (I've seen another KZreadr mention this too so I'm glad it's not just me)...that bloody rat. I hated it so much, from the terrible CGI to the borderline offensive Irish, err 'accent.' It was so annoying and distracting that even if the rest of the episode wasn't so poor, I would have rated it a 1/10 just on principle.

Within the concept 'what was the best horror story', i'd always go for Pickmans model. I'm not easily impressed in the scares department and horror mostly gets me laughing in stead of 'fearing', but the ending of that one actually felt 'honestly creepy'.

Pinkman's model? No way Jesse is cooking again 😭

The Murmuring is the best one. Let's fight. But the autopsy is my second favorite.

Although I disagree with this ranking, for me, the viewing, and the outside were my least favorites. But the autopsy was by far the best episode. so I’m not surprised that brain pilot ranked it as number one.

I'm really really disappointed about "the outside" episode, especially the ending, the entire build of for kinda nothing, i didn't excepted her to really "change" i thought it was just from her pov and that we'll see how she really looks like at the end but.. yeah

I like The Viewing a lot. Very convincing eighties vibe. The whole episode has an uneasiness. And Peter Weller is doing great! I was expecting he was using them for a creepy experiment or something like that. But no. It's about an alien locked up in some sort of a meteorite. Nothing could trigger the alien to wake up, but a joint did the trick! And that was a little bit too odd. But it's an awesome looking monster/alien with very dangerous abilities. I think maybe aliens send it to earth to explore our planet in a not so peaceful way.

I had a different overall ranking but we share which episode is #1. It was perfection!

Episode 8 is more of a drama than a horror. The only scary part is the mom and child crying to be free.

The outside was the worst! Me and alot of my family and friends agreed to watch this series throughout the week so we could talk about it and everyone agreed the outside was the worst lol. All the other ones I can agree on

Yeah because it's way too long. The whole story could have been telled in 30 min. It felt like you run circles. Too slow and boring. Unoriginal and predictable.

Panos Cosmatos and David Prior's films were the only objectively good ones of the 8 With extra points to Prior for his masterclass. It's true Panos needed a feature length time for his one.

Definitely The Autopsy was the best. It was great to see F Murray Abraham again as well.

The autopsy was so good! This whole series was good. Even the worst sows were watchable. It reminded me a lot of HBO’s old Tales From the Crypt series‘. It’s also what I was hoping Jordan Peeles The Twilight Zone reboot would be but wasn’t. Hopefully we get a second installment next Halloween. Thanks for breaking these down Brain Pilot 🙏🏼

Anyone else notice how the alien in the autopsy looks a lot like the statue in Graveyard rats?

This show was very hit and miss, mostly misses, IMO. The Autopsy was the best and I appreciated the attention to detail, plus giving us a sympathetic protagonist. The Outside was not very original, but it was well-told (be it a little too long), with the lead actress really giving a great performance. But the rest...mostly, just boring. The stories were rather simplistic, and felt like they could have been told in half an hour rather than an hour. A good example is Lot 36--we have no sympathy for the lead protagonist, so we can't share in his fear at the very, very end, when the first and only scary thing happens. The monster is cool, but it's like...what?--3 minutes of time. The rest was just set up and build up, watching an unrealistically bad guy we don't want to follow. The Murmuring definitely had more nuance and the actors did great, with a sympathetic lead, but it's an hour of bird watching with a touch of supernatural. It just didn't have enough story to justify the run time. Overall, I think sites like MrCreepyPasta and The Dark Somnium actually have better, more original stories. Maybe I'm just spoiled, but taking a story that's decades old and trying to tell it today, where other stories have copied it, might be part of the problem. It doesn't feel original anymore.

In the series only one episode is named "The Autopsy". Other episodes are truly weste of time.

Still yet to watch the final episode but 3 and 7 have been nothing short of spectacular. Pickman’s model and witch house were god awful though

I loved Kate's performance, but the outside just didn't resonant with me. The autopsy is probably my favorite, but I think about the viewing and pickman's model the most.

How does everyone like pickmans models? It was gruesome for sure, but it was a complete clusterfuck of storytelling and explaining why everything happens and I still don't know why anything happens at all. Gore and shock was great, but other than that my top 3 worst for sure.

Dreams in the Witch House was set in the wrong period for its multi-racial cast happily mixing together, American wasn't like this at that period even in New York. They should have set this in modern times if they wanted people of different races mixing freely together.

The only one I didn’t really enjoy was the model one.

The horror was minimum and there was basically no story, just the paintings and no development whatsorever about the paintings themselves, what they meant (all the coven and witch thing), the characters themselves were also flat. The concept imo is very basic, not original at all (basically the ring but with paintings and more melodramatic and boring lmao) and everything could've been so much easier if only the lead character just communicate himself to the other characters instead of making everything so confusing and just worst, he didnt needed to shoot pickman at all, the resolution of things were so random and dumb, the ending itself was atleast dark and somewhat satisfying, it's a 5/10. The Autopsy was a 11/10 amazing craft and Dreams in the witch house felt like a horror movie more targeted to kids Coraline style, it was fun and Ruper Grint was great in it 7/10. Edit: just finded out 'Pickman's Model ' is an adaptation of an HP Lovecraft book, (saw it and the whole show knowing nothing of it to not ruin the experience), thats why then it feels like a poorly and incompletedly told story lmao so poorly developed

Pickman's Model was so bad. The pacing was off and it felt dragged out. The jump scares were cheap. And worst of all the animation of the paintings proves that the director didn't get the point of Lovecraft's short story - it's not about a picture that moves but about the realness behind it. On the other hand, The Outside stood out and apart from the rest as a real work of both art and craftmanship. Everything was perfectly done - up to the minutest detail (acting, script, plot, cinematography, editing, music, sound effects etc.). Really an extraordinarily good short film!

Dreams in the Witch House The problem with half of this season was the hackneyed, predictable scripts, spoiler music scores, and horrible acting and directing. We all saw the alien being defeated at the end of The Autopsy, even though the story was well-conceived, but the payoffs in Lot 36, Graveyard Rats, and Dreams in the Witch House were cheap and sappy. The scare factor was equal to that of Lord of the Rings. Action-packed fantasy does not equate to horror, IMO

Solid ranking!

Episodes 2 & 3 were the best, episode 1 was ok i didn't like the narrative, 4 & 5 were good, 6 was meh i almost don't remember this episode, 7 has a good cinematography but it was just talk 90% of the episode, 8 was also ok but the characters were annoying

In my opinion, Dreams in a Witch House is the worst episode for two reasons. The first reason is that the episode itself is a extreme bad adaptation, that has almost nothing to do with the actual short story it is based on. The only thing that connects the episode with the short story of the same name is the house and the antagonists but nothing else. My second reason is that I didn't like the atmosphere of the episode, which in my opinion wasn't scary enough, but this could also be because I watched the german version, where the voice of Brown Jenkins (the rat with human face) seemed out of place

EP07 and EP01 are my favorites.
