People are calling this performance creepy like it's a bad thing. Hell yes, this performance is brilliant and phenomenally creepy. Eddie is mesmerizing.

That's kinda the point! The big 3 have all played it different, but they were all creepy! Joel Grey was creepy! Alan Cumming was creepy! Eddie Redmayne was crespy!

As a musical theatre and acting coach and someone who has performed the role of the MC several times, I am saddened to see some of the comments that work has to be performed just one way , like the iconic Liza/Joel Grey movie version or the revival with Alan Cumming which is my favorite. Making a work fresh and new is very difficult and though I haven't had a chance to see the whole production yet, I love the the immersive experience, and creepy humor mixing childlike costumes with the horrors of the time. It is a unique new take on the work compared to the intentionally dark German Expressionist style of the Cumming production. It looks fascinating. My friends in NYC adored the show and said it was the most immersive experience they have ever been at, and friends who are old enough to have seen the original with Jill Haworth, the movie with Liza, and various revivals .. all of them say this was a brilliant well thought out production and fresh. Eddie's MC gives off a creepy Pierrot Lunaire German Expressionist vibe and the doll like Betty Boopish "Don't Tell Mama" looks fab. I can't wait to see this production. But I admit I prefer Cabaret much darker .. The production I did was the same revival version as Cumming and I still get teary when I remember the final Auf wiedersehen in the black leather trench and take it off to reveal the Concentration Camp pajamas with a giant pink triangle and the projection of barb wire, and smoke from the gas chamber. That was a very dark production and I think emotionally one of the hardest shows I ever did. But the main thing is is Cabaret is still socially relevant today. And I'm delighted to see it still getting the attention it deserves.

That’s the whole point they don’t have to make it fresh and new because a classic is a classic. You just have to show reverence for it and there is no reference in our society anymore.

I haven't seen the whole show so take it with a grain of salt, but... I just don't see how this portrayal of Emcee could be made to fit with the script. It is literally not welcoming! The point is to pull people off the streets, intrigue an ordinary audience about an otherwise abnormal show. It's a cornerstone of light and joy that makes the whole show work. Instead he seems possessed, not concerned at all with being understood, assuming he's the main character. Maybe the director has a vision that makes that work. I struggle to imagine it.

People, want a performance that reflects their view or performance by someone set in aspic . The joy of theatre and live performance is that each production and indeed every performance brings something different to (hopefully) tell the story a new way. People also seem to forget that the Kit Kat club was not suppose to be a glamorous place full of highly talented performers…

@@GlockenspielHeroi feel the point of your critique can be summed by not having seen the production and taking this close up view of a piece and performance meant for the theatre and in and a style and setting that transports the audience to the Kit Kat club. Only from this short bit, I think it looks good but the camera being so up close makes it uncomfortable. Looks like a performance that would hit very differently seeing it on a stage than on a screen. No wonder people don't like it, the medium and the performance style don't match!

I’m a fan of the movie version. Eddie is over-rated. We knew that before. A pretty posh dude, privilege and good schools and opportunities normal actors don‘t get. Putting a movie star with limited singing and dancing ability into broadway or westend show has been done before, and sadly it will be done again. They want people to buy tickets and a famous person is gonna sell those tickets.
