Cabana Presents: Portrait of a Home with Robert Kime
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
A few months before he died, the late decorator and antique dealer, Robert Kime (1946-2022) invited Cabana to his home in London. Robert, whose notable clients included King Charles III (then the Prince of Wales), shared his thoughts on decorating and collecting, along with the stories of his cherished objects, gathered over a lifetime of travelling and treasure hunting.
Watch this beautiful video, shot by Luca Cepparo, for an insight into the life and mind of one of Britain’s great design talents.

That was criminally too short. I could listen to him and look at his space for a long time.

There is another wonderful clip by House & Garden ‘Design Notes’ where RK talks about his collection. Only about 8 minutes but well worth it.

@@plumhattie5126 thanks. I will check it out.
I lived in Cairo for a short time and felt exactly as he did, there is almost a feeling of timelessness where it just doesn't exist. Anytime you wake up whether it be early or late ... is always the perfect time. Existence in the present was such a beautiful experience ... I miss it!
Before August, I would have found this video interesting in the same way that I find all the Cabana videos. Now it's also moving. RIP.

No! I had no idea. RIP Robert Kime.
What an interesting man! My first thought was that every human should be so lucky to have a leather chair as worn in and loved as his red one was. That speaks of hours spent reading and enjoying life.
Apreciado Robert Kime British interior decorator! Requiescat in pace!

Should be "In Pace Requiescat".
Beautiful immersion is his magic atmosphere, thanks again for enabling that once more
Even when he describes his childhood and the financial troubles his mother ran into he makes it all sound so charming. Just dealing antiques on his way to and from school. 💁♀️
4:10 Your love for Egyptian culture is evident ...every object in your home has a story to tell , and how wonderful it would be to hear it from you...... it is an inviting, intriguing space with a melange of objects that mingle together, and show your interest and appreciation for history....Thank you for sharing it...Congratulations!
A beautiful tribute to a legend 🙏🏼
I am sitting in the twin brother of that worn leather chair. For real. That man is amazing. It’s all about color and atmosphere.

Very inspiring....Thank you for sharing your love for art, history and collecting....❤
I am in love with the large cloth hanging of those exquisite architectural images. Are affordable replicas available. The worn red leather chair assures one he was a man you would appreciate knowing. RIP.
Excellent! I love, admire and understand Robert's opinions on objects, and the atmosphere they can create--especially when brought together.
The burnt orange color, and the music, magical,
On my god yes sailing down the Nile is so magical.
This is fantastic, love the colors and is exactly what I do living in Indonesia. Feeling the space and playing with colors.
Such a lovely gentle soul. 🐱🧡
This was so brilliant. More of the same please 😊
What a collection! Stunning house. Thank you for the video!
Sublime
So much in my house and collections is influenced by Mr Kime, he was someone I longed to meet and talk with. I just received the catalogue of the sale to get a better look at his collections. What he says abour Egypt I experienced with India, a place I long to go back to and where like Mr Kime I picked up so many beautiful ancient artifacts. Sitting on a giant boulder over looking the river in Hampi with several dogs and some monkeys watching the sun set was an incredible moment. Buying some treasures found by the kids in the river mud, being blessed in the temple. I was married there by my husbands uncle, a Brahmani priest. So many memories.
Amazing love this
🙏🏼 what a blessing ..,,,❤️
His unique vision will be missed.
Absolutely magical.
I'd love to have a cat sculpture or figurine from Egypt.
RIP dear man.
Beautiful house!!
Robert....happy to buy things from men in white vans many many years ago 'with no questions asked"
This is wonderful. I would love to also have the music reference please.
Delicious...
3:53 Thought for sure he was going to say "...this puzzle."
RIP

Utterly delicious...
Its all about colour says he, against a red wall that speaks of ox blood, carnations, and spices from distant and ancient lands. Can anyone please enlighten me as to that paint ? I am looking to paint my wall too in that colour, in memory of him.
Lucky, charming man with a great life, and left the world right before the age range where the brain is guaranteed to regress, contract and thus dementia sets in, so I say he timed it as good as the rest of his life.
Egyptian friend was "more than a friend" :-)
I wonder what happened to all his stuff following his death.

I think there is an auction of his personal collection on 4th/5th/6th October by Dreweatts Donnigton.
Those Egyptian antiquities should be in an Egyptian museum.

Human nature is to collect beautiful things. Unfortunately it is also the nighmare of archeologists. Beautiful thing without a context can not help to understand the past.
How many artifact did you steal from them
