Cab ride Vienna - Graz (Semmering Railway, Austria) - train driver's view in 4K
In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view on Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) premium Railjet service between the Austrian capital Vienna (Wien) and Graz in 4K/60 frames per second.
One of the busiest railway routes in Austria, it takes us from the capital city of Vienna to Graz, the second-largest city in Austria on the route of the historic southern railway mainline (Sudbahn) completed in 1854 between Vienna and Graz, stretching further to Ljubljana (Laibach) in Slovenia and Zagreb (Agram) in Croatia.
A two-and-a-half-hour journey from Vienna to the southern city of Graz leads across the Semmering mountain pass along UNESCO World Heritage Semmering railway (Semmeringbahn). Built in the mid-19th century and made up of 26 miles (41 km) of tunnels and viaducts, it represents one the most impressive feats of civil engineering in the era of early railway construction. Following the river Mürz downhill from Mürzzuschlag route takes us to the major railway junction of Bruck an der Mur, after which we follow the river Mur valley all the way to Graz.
A major upgrade of the line is happening, with a new Semmering Base Tunnel (basis tunnel) being built to replace the winding Semmering railway with the 27,3 kilometre tunnel, capable of speeds up to 250km/h, that when completed in 2030, will reduce the travel time between Mürzzuschlag and Gloggnitz from 45 minutes today to just 15 minutes, also bringing down the journey between Vienna and Graz to under two hours on flagship Railjet service.

Grandios! Wunderschöne Fahrt in Österreich über den "Zauberberg" (Semmering) von Wien und Niederösterreich in die Steiermark. Und perfekte Einblendungen von Strecken- und Stationsnamen und Bezeichnungen der Tunnels samt Länge und der wichtigen Brücken und Viadukte. So hat man einen guten Überblick über Geographie und Geschichte! Dr. Carl Ritter von Ghega hat mit der Semmeringbahn die erste Gebirgsbahn der Welt (eröffnet 1854 erbaut, ein Meisterwerk des Eisenbahnbaus. Beachtenswert sind auch die 55 baugleichen steinernen Bahnwärterhäuser zwischen Gloggnitz und Mürzzuschlag, von denen aus die Bahnwärter die ganze Strecke überblicken und beobachten konnten. Leider stehen nicht mehr alle 55. [Great! Beautiful trip in Austria over the "Magic Mountain" (Semmering) from Vienna and Lower Austria to Styria. And perfect displays of route and station names and names of the tunnels including their length and the important bridges and viaducts. This gives you a good overview of geography and history! The great Austrian engineer Dr. Carl Ritter von Ghega built with the Semmering-railway the first mountain railway in the world (opened in 1854), a masterpiece of railway construction. Also worth noting are the 55 identical stone signalman's houses between Gloggnitz and Mürzzuschlag, from which the early signalmen could see and observe the entire route. Unfortunately not all 55 are standing anymore.]

Took the train from Vienna to Rome over the Semmeringbahn in 1971. The train departed from the Südbahnhof and the trip took about 20 hours. The last time I rode the Semmeringbahn was 2012 when Wien Meidling served as the main train station for Wien, so I have yet to ride this route from the Hauptbahnhof. Beautiful scenery and wonderful engineering. Once the Semmering Base Tunnel is open, I feel sorry for visitors who travel on the Railjet as they will miss all of the beauty. Maybe OEBB and Austria can inform tourists to consider taking a EC train (perhaps on the OEBB website)? Tourists are in Austria to see the beautiful country, and a slightly faster train ride should not be the most important thing to do.

i think even EC and EN/NJ services will go thru the tunnel :( freight trains too because the inclines are quite severe, but i heavily doubt that the OBB will just close the line, it will be kept for instances where the tunnel might have to stay closed for certain periods of time.

Notice the slow speed over the up side of the Semmierng mountain. For this train it was not a matter of power and a steep hill but one of track design for freight trains. The elevation of the outer rails is insufficient for high train speeds as can be heard by the scraping noise of the wheel flanges. But the track is OK for slower, heavier freights. The base tunnel will cure this problem for higher speed trains.

This is one of the most interesting travel from Vienna to Grats, as viewed from driver's cob. Very good filming and good captions. It shows how the Austria's rail work. I think they offer correct speed, technical structure. The trains have to increase the speed, but Austians do not need to travel as fast as high speed rails in Japan, or France. If they care, the trains on iron's tracks will be competitive for the next century.

I was concerned about the metal scraping on the bends and felt that the brakes were getting a workout. This question was put to the driver of the Savannahlander train in North Queensland by a passenger. He explained that it is a flange that is set between the wheel and the and the rail and is used as a guide to keep the wheels on the rails on corners.

Nun, auch Strecken, wie jene von Wien Hbf via Wels Hbf nach Passau Hbf, von Attnang-Puchheim nach Stainach-Irdning (oder vice versa), von Selzthal nach Linz Hbf (via Bosrucktunnel), um nur einige zu nennen, lohnen die Aufnahmen. Aktuell werden noch einige stark frequentierte Strecken mit Dieseltraktion befahren, in wenigen Jahren aber auf den Betrieb unter Fahrtdraht umgestellt (wie z.B. die Steirische Ostbahn Graz - Fehring [- Szentgotthárd HU], die bis 2028 elektrifiziert wird.) Auch der Betrieb auf Nebenbahnen (wie z.B. GKB oder StB [Gleisdorf - Weiz]) lohnen die Aufnahme.

Je suis très heureux de retrouver la ligne Vienne / Graz car la vidéo précédente ne comportait aucune indication. Je viens de commencer le visionnage sur mon smartphone mais je le reprendrai sur mon téléviseur 📺 4K. Félicitations pour vos réalisations. Vielen Dank für so ein wundervolles Video. Ich habe eine Frage: Warum beginnt der Verkehr ab 1:53 auf der linken Seite? Der Zug fährt ständig durch das Gebiet Österreichs, wo Rechtsverkehr üblich ist, hier jedoch Linksverkehr. Es wäre interessant, die Antwort zu erfahren.

Zweigleisige Strecken sind in AT für vollwertigen Gleiswechselbetrieb ausgestattet. Das linke Gleis als Regelgleis und das rechte Gleis als Gegengleis sind auf der Südbahn historisch bedingt. Bis Ende 2025 bleibt dieser aktuelle Linksverkehr von Bruck/Mur Bf 01:53:05 bis Spielfeld-Straß Bf (Grenzbahnhof AUT/SLO) noch bestehen. Mit Aufnahme des durchgehenden Betriebes auf der KAB (Koralmbahn, 127 km NBS zwischen Graz und Klagenfurt) ab 2025 wird auch auf der Südbahn von Bruck/Mur Bf bis Graz Hbf auf Rechtsverkehr umgestellt.

sie schreiben es, Rechtsverkehr ist üblich, aber es gab niemals ein eindeutiges Gesetz dies zu machen, so hat sich aus verschiedenen Eisenbahngesellschaften eine bunte Mischung ergeben, war mehr oder weniger egal weil damals viel weniger Verkehr und verschiedene Strecken entweder garnicht oder nur eingleisig miteinander verbunden waren, erste zweigleisige Strecken hat man viele im Linksverkehr gebaut und die Weichen und Überholgleise dementsprechend ausgerüstet, später hat man gemerkt auf Dampfloks das der Fahrer schlecht auf die Signale sieht und hat spätere Zweigleisigkeiten auf Rechtsverkehr gebaut, dann kamen die Weltkriege und kurzfristig die preußische Rechtsfahrpflicht, aber bestehende Infrastruktur bekommt man nicht einfach umgebaut, in den 80ern hat der Verkehr zugenommen und man hat eine Modernisierungs bzw Ausbauwelle gestartet und so hat man denn ALLE Strecken auf Gleiswechselbetrieb ausgerüstet und die Westbahn komplett auf Rechtsbetrieb gedreht einheitlich auf voller Länge, es betrifft Gleiswechsel, es betrifft Überholgleise, es betrifft Bahnsteiggleise, es betrifft sogar Wartehäuschen denn wer vom Land in die Großstadt pendelt braucht morgends ein Wartehäuschen, wenn man nach Hause kommt dann steigt man aus und verlässt den Bahnhof sofort, all diese Dinge führen dazu das dieser einheitliche Betrieb immer noch nicht existiert, denn umbauen kostet und wieso etwas umbauen das noch funktioniert, die große aktuelle Umstellungswelle kommt weil man den Knoten Wien bzw die Südbahn neu ordnet mit den fertigen bzw in Bau befindlichen Projekten, sie sind jetzt keine Inseln mit Kopfbahnhöfen mehr, es entstand ein Hauptbahnhof der den Fernverkehr in alle Richtungen abwickelt

@dmcalais Train has lights. But the camera tat I use is not good in lowlight, so it does look that it is almost totally dark.

Es werden Maßnahmen ergriffen. Immer wieder werden solche Schmierer ertappt und bestraft und müssen die Reinigungskosten bezahlen. Aber die Polizei kann bei Nacht und Nebel nicht überall sein. - 対策が講じられています。 このようなグリーサーは繰り返し捕まり処罰され、清掃費用を支払わなければなりません。 しかし、夜間や霧の中では警察がどこにでもいるわけではありません。
