Cab Ride Osijek - Koprivnica (Varaždin-Dalj Railway - R202, Croatia) train driver's view 4K

In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view on the Croatian Varaždin-Dalj Railway between Osijek and Koprivnica in 4K/60 frames per second.
The Varaždin-Dalj railway, officially designated as the R202 railway, is a 249.839-kilometre (155.243 mi) long railway line in Croatia that spanning between the city of Varaždin and the town of Dalj east of Osijek. It is non-electrified and mostly single-tracked. Operating speed is 100 km/h (62.1 mph) max.
The R202 railway connects to several other lines. In Varaždin, at the western terminus of the line, the railway connects to the R201 spanning between Čakovec, just to the north, and Zaprešić near Zagreb. The L201, serving Ivanec and Golubovec, is also connected to the R202 in Varaždin. The R202 also connects to the M201 linking Budapest (via Gyékényes) and Zagreb (via Dugo Selo) at Koprivnica and to the L204 to Bjelovar at Kloštar Podravski. The L205 and L206 railways connect to the R202 at Pčelić and Našice respectively. Nonetheless, sections of the L205 and L206 adjacent to the R202 are not used as of 2013. The L208 joins the R202 at Bizovac and serves Belišće. In Osijek, the R202 connects to the M301 to Budapest (via Beli Manastir), M302 to Strizivojna-Vrpolje junction, and the L209 to Vinkovci. At the eastern terminus of the R202, in Dalj, the railway connects to the R104 serving Vukovar to the south and Subotica via Erdut to the east.

    This route is basically my childhood. I took the train from Cakovec to Osijek around 5 to 10 times a year to visit my grandma who lives in Osijek. Thank you for bringing me down memory lane. I really love it❤

    The mountain range Krndija-Papuk description needs some minor rectification. While approaching Našice you can see some Krndija in the distance. Also, Papuk mountain range starts about there. Basically Papuk stretches for the most part from Našice until Čačinci. After that, Papuk is no more, so "Slopes of Papuk" are just some Podravina hills stretching towards Koprivnica.     Swietelsky, Austrian construction company will be modernizing 45km section between Koprivnica to Pitomaca, so speeds should go up a bit, it is approved for speeds up to 120kmph, current speeds are around 60kmph on much of the section should improve dramatically, Section between Osijek and Koska also got funding for modernization. All paid out of Croatian state budget, sadly EU does not fund local or regional routes. The line will be entirely modernized and new signalization installed, so journey between Osijek and Koprivnica should last only 90-100 minutes. Good video, shows all the progress on the line. The line won't be electrified btw, but new bi-mode battery - electric trains will be put on the line, with battery charging stations in Osijek and Virovitica being built as we speak. First battery trains should enter service in 2025.

    @@doriancroatia2054 Well the funding which will partially come from the €900 million investment loan and most from the budget needs to be agreed on, but first project documentation and feasibility study must be completed. If all goes well, by end of this year we could see these done. Then there's a public tender for works, which can take 12 to 18 months, but if all goes well, at the end of 2026 we could see start of works on this section, with completion date around late 2028, otherwise if things stretch 2030.

    Another very long train journey... with wonderful pictures, especially the cloud formation at the beginning, which was probably dissolved by the rising sun 😊👍 The landscape is not so interesting, but the many semaphore signals are still there 🤗 - I find it interesting that at most stations these only serve as entry signals, in the stations themselves there are usually no signals next to the tracks! This long railway line is not very busy either: in the almost four hours there was only ONE train crossing, but it is still commendable that this is being modernized - in earlier years, like all over the world, rail traffic would have simply been rationalized away without any care... Filming on weekends… could be difficult on my suggested line because of some train cancellations on saturday and sunday… 🤔 Anyway: a very interesting line with varied landscape and interesting railway history 👍

    The good farmland, very neat villages and towns, well maintained right of way along with generally good condition of the railroad, makes me think I am in the middle of Illinois, USA. Only thing that is lacking are more huge grain elevators served by rail.

    Thanks for one more excellent video. Next section of this part that will be modernized is the one from Kloštar to Koprivnica (part of the Kloštar - Koprivnica - Varaždin - Čakovec project) which is expected to be finnished in few years from now. :)

    No bears here, in croatia you can find brown bears only in central mountainous parts, as well as wolves and lynxes, here from bigger wildlife only deer species, pigs and jackals.

    The licensed versions were JŽ series 664-1XX and EMD 644 built by Macosa in Spain. JŽ/SŽ Series 664-1XX were only in Slovenia.

    These ones in video were license-built (HŽ 2044 were originally JŽ 645 and were built by Đuro Đaković in Slavonski Brod), in general, in Croatia and other ex-Yugoslavia countries You can find combination of US-built, MACOSA (Spain) license built and Đuro Đaković (Yugoslavia/Croatia) license built. Funnily enough, JŽ 661 (EMD G16) were very common and had a nickname "Kennedy" (or "Kenedi") as they were delivered in early 1960s during JFK.

    Locomotive is Croatian Railways (HŽPP) 2044 series, which is a EMD GT22HW-2 locomotive license-built in Croatia/Yugoslavia in 1980s by Đuro Đaković factory from city of Slavonski Brod. It is a 6-axle locomotive but with only 4 powered axles in (A1A)' (A1A)' setup as it was made to have lower axle load (98t on 6 axles for 16,5t/axle) so it can be used on lower quality lines as well. Engine is EMD645 series V12 diesel with output of 1750kW (2330HP). It is used in Croatia for passenger trains on non-electrified lines (here in Slavonia but also for night trains and some day trains to Split). If You Google "HŽ 2044" or "JŽ 645" You can find more information about them.

    At 3:14:44 in KLOŠTAR You can see a "opposite" train to our train - this is what train from the video looks like, blue HŽPP 2044 locomotive with several 1st/2nd class passenger cars of different types (Aeelt, Beet).

    @@ZvonimirZelenika Che la macchina fosse del tipo di quella incrociata lo avevo capito sin dall'nizio, quando con il sole alle spalle del convoglio, era riflessa sul binario la forma della cabina della macchina ! Ed essendo la forma ancora di stile non russo, ma sovietico, non ho capito se è una 4 o una 6 assi ! Grazie comunque della sua risposta.

    The train speeds seem a little slow for what one would expect of a mainline route, but maybe that's the best the track can accommodate. On the other hand, there's always the possibility of corrupted GPS data given Russia's penchant for jamming satellite transmissions in eastern Europe.

    We didn’t have any GPS jamming, so speeds are (unfortunately) real. This is techically a ‘Regional’ line and in best case it would be limited to 100km/h due ro lack of modern signalling system (per local regulation). Line should be upgraded over time to look like Virovitica-Pitomača section.
