    I'm from Poland. You have terribly narrow tram stops. But the movie is cool. I will not be here in Japan, but thanks to the internet I can see your wonderful country. Greetings.

    I was there just after this film was made and went on the same line as well as walking from north to south. A beautiful City. Lovely to see all these places again. Always a pleasure to use Japanese Public transport.

    Excellent video, it's very interesting seeing everyday life from other countries. Where I live in Adelaide, South Australia we mainly have buses, with four suburban train lines in total around 180 km length and one tram line about 20 km in length, the tram runs from the main city to the seaside and is a constant source of frustration to other road users, as our tram line runs on a raised road section and cannot be crossed by other vehicles. I look forward to seeing more of your country, I love your engine videos as well!

    There were many tram lines in Japanese cities and towns. But, those were closed by the progress of motorization after 1960s.

    Fascinating video. It's nice to hear sectioned rails for so much. Continuous welded rail is smooth but kinda boring. What's with the "fading"/"pulsing" traffic lights? Also it's interesting to see the trams don't have many of their own dedicated signals when street running. 27:40 Sounding the horn/whistle/bell before moving off isn't a thing then? That almost ended badly. 29:00 High-vis clothing isn't a thing either, it seems.

    The camera captures frames at a fixed rate, which nearly lined up with a multiple of the very high frequency at which the lights blink. You wouldn't notice them blinking if you were actually on that street, or if the frame rate was different.

    Interesting that many of the traffic signals appear to have a slow-cycling blinking feature. Some are so slow the signal is unlighted more than lighted.

  • @somethingclever1128

    @somethingclever1128

    6 жыл бұрын

    That's probably because these signals actually blink at a very high frequency, and the camera's FPS must have very nearly lined up with a multiple of said frequency, so every frame it takes the light appears to be just a little more lit or dimmed. It's an illusion, it's like when you try to film certain kinds of screens or LED displays and on the video it appears jagged and broken. If you were in the street, you wouldn't even notice the lights blinking.

    At 2:59 ... how are the junction points changed? Is that done by remote control? And at 4:04 ... what is that thump-thump-thump noise? Is that an air compressor? I can hear it starting and stopping throughout the video.

    Japanese tram system uses trolley contactor system for point control mechanism since 1950~1960s. This system has two method, time lag method and signal method. There is a rod-switch on the trolley, tram's current collector operates it by contact. The Nagasaki tram employs signal method. And, at 4:04 noise is an air compressor. Overview You can see a rod-switch with trolley and a selection white line on the pavement. 2:56 There is a selection signal (Horizontally two lamps) over the bus. 3:00 The selection signal has two sign. A left side lamp is indication "To left", and a right side lamp is indication "To right" 1. Tram driver passes over the selection line when selection signal displays the route of the tram. 2. Tram's current collector contacts rod-switch simultaneously. 3. Trolley contactor system operates point by selection signal's sign timing. 4. After a short time, a point is locked, and all crossing traffic light indicates "Stop", traffic light for tram indicates orange arrow "Clear ". I`d like to see some numpty Scientists and experts in Radiation come on to this post and tell us how its possible that after 70 odd years after the dropping of two Atomic Bombs, one on Nagasaki and the other on Hiroshima there is a thriving City now with the people looking so healthy and even trees growing when for years they tell us no life can form for millions of years due to Radiation.
