Great vid. Used to work on the P-way back in 1990 from Charing Cross to New Cross. So many changes. Heard it's all red zone nowadays. Great to see one of the old P-Way lobbies (the old signal box off Cannon Street bridge) is still there. Bought back a lot of great memories from when British Rail was full of old school men.

Thanks for the memories !! From 1959 - 1961, while studying Hotel Management at Westminster Technical College ( now Kingsway) I rode this line back and forth daily. My station, Woolwich Arsenal, feels familiar but none of the others from Charing Cross as I was always crammed in , standing, like a sardine that I hardly ever got to see out the windows, even on Saturdays when I went up toThe Valley to watch Charlton play. however , for the past 56 years in Canada and the USA, I was always able to recite every station from Charing Cross to Dartford !!! Conditioning, I guess.

My late father always arranged his signalling rotas at Charlton and Charlton Lane Crossing signalboxes so he could go down and watch when at home. Woolwich has changed dramatically, I was a long range sniper at the barracks which was handy as I used to do my 10 miles runs every day to my mums in Bromley where having a fry up would run back for the offical brekkers then the days work. My great grandfather was a very well known policeman in the area, his "patrol" (reads free beer and food route) started at Greenwich West, along the main road to Prince of Orange pub, then after checking the beer was fine would wobble a bit up to his house in Point Hill for his first of several breakfasts, then he would wander off across Blackheath down to the village checking the validity of the tea van, various pubs and cafe's, then down to the Royal Standard, along Shooter's Hill down into Woolwich proper, then along and back via Charlton to sign off at his station and very unsteady wander home for a scolding and sleep. He had zero arrests on his beat but also zero crime too and well respected for actually caring about his people as he called 'em.
