(1991) CA v. #BettyBroderick: GRAPHIC CRIME SCENE PHOTO WARNING
Law enforcement testifies to crime scene evidence in the Betty Broderick Trial.
Elisabeth "Betty" Broderick is being retried for the shooting death of her ex-husband and his new wife, Dan Broderick and Linda Kolkena Broderick. I was married to a man that cheated on me with 13 different woman. He ended up married to one of them. I was pregnant t the time, and in my country we weren't able to get a divorce until the baby was born. My divorce was final 28 days after my baby was born. He married her 2 months after. My revenge??? He has 3 sons with 3 different people outside of his marriage. Her life have been a real nightmare for the last 35 years. I just sit back and listen to all stories from the mouth of my ex-mother in law and smiled. I am happily married for 33 years and we have a total of 4 children's and 3 grandchildren. I love myself way too much to allow my past to destroy my present and future.

Such a shame Betty couldn't see beyond her own immediate heartbreak, because, like you, I discovered that there really is life after divorce, especially for someone as attractive and intelligent as Betty was. I truly think she was desperately mentally ill at the time she killed them, and that his behaviour contributed greatly to that.

I read he has a very sophisticated alarm system with codes. It really protected them because alarm would tell them she was trying to get in house and also It would notify police. It wasn't turned on that night experts speculate because Betty had kids. I guess after she let herself into house with Kim's key, she stole, she realized alarm wasn't on. She planned entire murder by first steeling key from Kim. She terrorized Dan and Linda who wanted to give his kids stability.

Obviously, what Betty did was wrong, but Betty was driven to insanity by Dan & Linda. Betty helped put Dan through both medical & law school. In addition, Dan didn’t believe in birth control & kept getting Betty pregnant. He wanted a stay at home mother for his kids. Once Dan hit the big time, he wanted a younger woman & that wasn’t Betty. Dan lied for years, & then used the courtroom as his playground. Deducting fines/penalties for what Dan deemed as a crime. He allowed Linda to sign legal & notarize legal documents. I’m stunned he was allowed to get away with his games in family court (today, he wouldn’t). When Betty was meant to have the kids, he’d change his mind at the last minute. The courts allowed him the power of torturing Betty for years! Had Dan stopped the torture, Betty would have come to terms with the fact she married an evil narcissistic man. Unfortunately, even after winning almost everything, he didn’t stop! Something bad was going to happen, & it did. I do feel for Betty!

The reality is that no one is innocent here but the kids. Dan and Betty both acted angry, vengeful and immature. Neither acted like they still had children to deal with. Dan did consider his kids. He tried to minimize the damage. But in secret he also tried to screw Betty out of half of the marital assets. He did use his position and knowledge to give him an advantage in the legal proceedings. He did have an affair and have his wife carry a huge load while he was in school only to let someone else reap the benefits of that hard work. He used her and then tried to lose her. Having “made it” as he said, he wanted his arm candy. He could have been more considerate and nicer in the divorce to the mother of his children. On the other hand, Betty was so focused on revenge that she lost sight of everything that mattered. She became so obsessed with revenge and money that she lost sight of her kids, her ex, her life and her behavior. She deliberately hurt and used her kids. She lied and exaggerated Dan’s actions. She is a narcissist and had no intention of killing herself. T was always her intention to kill him and especially Linda. She hated Linda with a passion. Having gone from a loving and devoted mother to someone who never thought about the impact her behavior and actions would have. The only reason she cared about her kids before that is because they were a reflection on her. She dressed, cared for and devoted herself to her children not for their benefit but because it benefitted her to have the super mom or perfect mom image. Everything and everyone started and ended with her. She devoted herself to anything that improved her image, standing in society or influenced other peoples views of her. It was wholly her intention to dump the kid son Dan so he would fail. Not for their benefit, the effect of them was inconsequential, it was for her benefit. If he failed she would look better , even if he had harmed or killed the kids, it wasn’t about them but all about her. She thought that Dan and Linda would falter and crumble under the weight of raising 4 kids. The outcome for them didn’t matter. She had to always be the victim. It gave her sympathy. Whether her contentions squared with fact or reality didn’t matter, it was all about showing herself in the most favorable light. She needs to be seen as a savoir, a saint or a martyr. Nothing else will do. Dan and Linda didn’t make good choices, they had an affair and it was wrong but they didn’t deserve to die for it. Everyone here failed the true victims…the kids! There are no winners here. No one came out better and the true victims of this case are those kids. In the end Betty will never truly believe she is at fault. She will never believe she had other options. She is incapable of being accountable and being mature and responsible. She is so self centered she thinks the world needs her. She is the only one who can do what she does. She is incredibly special, unique, needed and never wrong.

When a wife supports and is a good wife and mother being discarded like just a nothing is so so hurtful one will never know what that feels like until it happens to you. When you dedicate your life to your family and a man has the power to erase those years there is no one feeling that describes that. Only thing I have an issue with is that she abandoned her children to him but I understand why she did it but was doing it but did that the wrong way. Having lived through a similar experience of separation for over 10 years I get it. Its demoralising It's like all those years you put into this marriage were for nothing a wasted life. He left Lee out of his will because she was a drug addict and was flunking out of school. Even she says it had nothing to do with her mother. As far as "snapped" - snapping is a one time thing. Leaving hours and hours of screaming obscene messages on someone's voice mail (some of it directed at her own kids). spraying graffiti on their house, ramming your car into their front door, buying a gun and showing it to your kids and telling them repeatedly that you are going to kill their father (the testimony of all the kids) is not snapping. It is a mental illness.

I don’t care if he has committed adultery like those “supporters” of Betty Broderick were claiming. That’s why they never saw American Justice with Bill Kurtis on A&E even if they didn’t see a videotape of Betty Broderick acting up in a jail cell just before the second trial began after the first trail was a mistrial. Betty Broderick was dragged by the correctional officers because she was acting up, refusing to go to solitary confinement.

So, when I first came on here, I was frustrated with people defending Betty. I've had some time to reflect. I have gone through the actual court testimony and seen many documentaries on the case and I was a little surprised at the attention and sympathy Betty gained from the Netflix series. I think its great that we are in a time where people recognize that women can and have been taken advantage of and are worth defending. I think that those who sympathize are seeing what happened to Betty as being unfair as she was cast aside by her husband - and that hurts. I understood that part and did have the sympathy but couldn't justify her actions and hunger for the money and her behaviour towards her children. I guess I know too many stories of women who clawed their way out of abusive marriages/relationships with absolutely nothing and did everything to make a better life for themselves and their children. And while I appreciate now, the kindness and sympathy people are showing to Betty, try to open up to the fact that Dan may have made huge mistakes in his life and may have done unfair things - but he didn't deserve to be murdered for it and neither did Linda. That type of vengeance garners nothing but leaving children without any parents. And that's what's really not fair.

@@texasgirl6000 Hey Girl! I did my first 2 years of University at U of H! I understand why people have hard feelings towards Linda - not only the affair but also bc all we have heard is Betty's narrative for over 30 years. Seeing who Betty is - is it really a wonder that Dan didn't want to be married to her anymore? Yes, he should have divorced her first - but we have no idea what was actually going on in his head or hers. There's more to this story and to Linda. Karma is what goes around - comes around. Linda didn't kill Betty or end her life - Betty did that. Every expert - including her own said she was narcissistic and histrionic. That is not true of most women. So while I appreciate the sentiment of keeping your legs closed to married men, I firmly stand behind the fact that she did not deserve to die for it. If it was true karma, Dan would have left her eventually - but that didn't happen and could never happen now - thanks to Betty. In the end - Betty is to blame for her lot in lfe.

No. Most men would have left her in the first yr or two of the marriage. She was a volatile, angry borderline narcissist. He was raised uber catholic and she got pregnant at once so he stayed. To me the moral of the story is USE BIRTH CONTROL until you are positive you want to be with this person, and that goes for men and women, equally

It was not just divorce, Betty suffered an identity theft. She had invested her whole self into Mrs. Broderick, a woman of social standing in the community, wife of a successful man, with a circle of elite friends, etc. Dan took that role away from Betty and gave it to someone else who had never done the work. It is not all that easy to rebuild yourself from scratch. I think she might have been content to become Mrs. Broderick the widow instead of Mrs. Broderick the divorced.
