The Vette spins very litte, if at all in some cases. Big advantage on launch. Something to note: If the Vette did spin and launched worse, the actual speed would have been higher than it tested. Good launch means better time but less speed in most cases. Tho I imagine the wheelspin on the Mustang was beyond excessive, limiting time and speed.

Unfortunately the event closed after that final race, however the delay you are seeing is caused by the built in launch control in the GT500. When you let off on the brake there actually is a built-in second long delay, whereas the C8 is instantaneous.

While they do have a trap speed competition to see what the fastest car is, they are a drag racing / roll racing at their events. Too many people here talking that don't know anything.

Its a full second not two. No matter what its a big failure and shouldn’t have happened on this Mustang. The Corvette still wins with 265 less hp. And dont forget it was a mile long. Way enough to skip the excuses.

And speedphenom knew about it and should’ve launched a second or 2 sooner and the results would’ve been different. But if it was a c7 Zr1 A8 the gt500 would’ve gotten walked stock for stock

A front engine car is never going to hook up like a mid engine car. The Z06 will be a total game changer.

I seriously love how you took the time to run the GT500 in both states of factory aero, something I've never seen anyone do. I'm not surprised that it was worth 3-4 mph either, and bet most of the improvement happened after 110-120 mph. Awesome job!

gt500 has HP, unfortunately not balanced as well as C8. All around vehicle for street, id say C8. Weight where it matters. 650 HP in that C8 would be an absolute lights out ride. Quick as hell.

Naw it won't because he has no idea how to use launch control . I've raced so many c8s its dumb never lost i even refuse to race them now . A few are now gt500 owners. So if u dont own either stop.with this assumption shit . Its a taste I dont like small cars at all so I love my gt500 , my best friend loves small cars but he loves my gt500 and his c8 there different cars shouldn't even be matched with each other. Also he has bought a gt500 and has a c8 now but he selling the c8 and save it for the z06 he likes the car but he wants to take his kids on rides .

@@randyjr3479 All you have to do is search GT500 vs C8 dragrace and you can find plenty. The GT500 needs stickier tires, perfect timing due to the launch control delay, and very ideal conditions in order to catch a C8 in a drag.

It still won't have enough horses. It has been rumored that it will get only 550 horses at full stock off of the assembly line. It is now in the category were 700 horses and a V-10 or the normal average, and it is the second ugliest "Vette ever designed.

At the beginning of the vid, I noticed that you were travelling up the grapevine headed towards the San Joaquin Valley. Then once you were at the event, I kept thinking that it looks like where I grew up. Then in the background, I saw Coalinga Fire Dept and started busting up. I went to Jr High and High School in Coalinga, lol. Go Horned Toads!!!

You were close on the c8, I got goosebumps watching that, I also found out a few days ago that the gt500 might not be quick as the c8 launching but it can put accelerate it. That’s nuts that race.

The Mustang has over 700 horses, and the 'Vette doesn't even have a full 500. The Ford will roast it all day long regardless of the length of the race unless the Mustang breaks something. I typed this before I watched it and the only way the C-8 won was because of the head start, notice that the Mustang almost caught up with it.

That gt500 was going to blow past that vette. You had a very late start and still mph'd that vette in the end. You were gaining so fast after 120mph

Just save a little more then treat yourself don't cheat yourself and get a blackwing while you can....they only make 250 a year (in all colors) FASTER than both these cars. 200+ PLUS MPH. Henessesy got one to 225 MPH. And its not just a sports car it also luxury. 😏

It would have been a photo finnish if you launched at the same time. That shows how quick that corvette is. Can't wait for the z06 or zr1.

what they did to the corvette is amazing that suspension and technology that went into it to launch 🚀 like a rocket for an rear wheel drive car is insane wich is why i think it beat the 760 🐎 GT-500 plus the surface dint help the GT-500 on the launch but on a prepped surface that GT-500 would definitely take it in the 1/4 and specially on the 1/2 it was coming in hot 🔥 WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE 🇺🇸

In the 1/2 sure, but the 1/4 would be a tough run. Needed the second half to catch back up from that jump. These c8s are sick off the line.

Dear Speed Phenom, a bit of spinning tires at the launch it’s not a bad thing for a top speed event! In fact the C8 Corvette lost, because although it cross the line first and certainly did the best time, the GT500 won with a much higher top speed. That’s not a drag race, that’a a top speed race! I did some with with my former C6 Z06 and those can be as exciting as a track day. I hope you upgrade your C8 soon, because a simple intake/ full exhaust and chip tuning mods transformed my Z06 into another car, unleashing about +70hp of fury. I imagine the potential of the superior C8 platform at the track days after the upgrades! Thanks for another excellent video. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

For everyone hating on his launch, the GT500 has almost a one second delay using Launch Control.

Where is it documented that the rain tray in helps with straight line racing?

The physics is interesting here SP. The C8 launches so well but the GT500 beat it into the ground based on top speed even with the Vette in the lead at the finish line. Of course, with an extra 260hp the GT only needed a little more time to take the overall lead. Pretty impressive that the C8 conquers most anything on the launch. GM really engineered that car well. It’s really an amazing car to just kick around town in and to race. Super versatile 🤙

The c8 continues to surprise me. I didn't think it had a chance in the half mile. If mph is what is measured FTW then the gt500 won that race. I can't wait for the C8 Z06!

@@burgerbandit3646 Whatever the price is gonna be for the upcoming C8 Z06 it will be well worth the price of admission!!!...$120k for a heavy (4,000lbs!!) Track car that chews up tires after one hero lap and has absolutely horrific fuel consumption????!!🤔

The hood doesn’t create downforce, it reduces front end lift by allowing air that would normally be trapped in the engine bay after passing through the radiator to escape. Look at many cars at high speed and you can see the hood bowing up for that reason. That likely cost you some speed instead of allowing you to attain a higher one

Absolutely agree. Live and learn right lol. Just a kid with a wicked car testing shit out. I would have pulled the entire wing off, probably about the same amount of hardware to remove.

I've read that the launch control on the GT500 has a severe lag when you let off the brake. Could that be the issue instead of "driver asleep at the wheel."?

Yes, the 1 second delay is ridiculous. Bette had about 2 cars on him by the time he even moved. I’m born and raised ford but love Camaros and vettes and know what they can do but this was really a no brainer lol mustang would win bc of the power but with that second long delay it didn’t stand a chance against the vette with all the weight in the rear bc of it being a mid engine and it’s instant launch

I really like that an ohv single cam naturally aspirated engine beats a larger, 4 cam, 32 valve, forced induction and intercooled motor with more power.

If it is like any other imposed top speed when the Speedo shows 180 mph the shut off the fuel and roll below 180 until the engine make revolutions restarts!

The reason the GT500 didn’t launch as well is because their is a delay by about a second when using launch control which is very noticeable when racing a C8 that can supposedly do a sub 3sec 0-60

Do you have any idea how much drag having the windows down causes ,you might as well have been towing a Fox body Mustang that had the windows rolled up .

You left your windows down...and you are worried about drag on the rear spoiler? And your speed was 144 on the last run vs 159 on your second. Yea.....you may of lost but it wasn't the cars fault. I like your enthusiasm!

His speed was above 150 with the window down

The c8 starts off like speedy Gonzalez

C8 hooks hard . He used all the available power to the ground while the mustang didn't used all the power early.
