Wow, I just finished this simple mod. It took me longer to jack it up than it did to make the change. Now my Corvette almost shifts like a sports car instead of a John Deer tractor (yes, it was that bad). I was going to sell the car because I hated the way it shifts so much. The dealer told me, "that is just how Corvettes shift". The performance shop said, "You need a custom-built transmission". Then you said, "Buy two copper washers' and voila, problem solved. Thank you.

Just did the venom mod on my 2006 C6 - significant difference. Thanks! The gate into 3rd is a little more vague. When I get a chance to put it on a lift I'll try 1 shim instead of 2. Doing it on jackstands was very doable but not fun for a 69 year old!! Thanks for the tip. That, and a simple shift rod adjustment have transformed this car!! Thanks!

If you want a shorter throw shifter and you dont care for the look/feel of the stock shifter ball simply remove the stock C5 ball and replace it with aC2 or C3 Shifter ball. I had a black chrome one on my C3 parts bin but you can buy new C2/3 ball in chrome or black chrome which screws down much further on the stock C5 Shifter shaft (same 9/16 threads). For me it feels so much better and looks great. Good luck.

Personally feel the C5 shifter looks nice and suits the C5 more than the c6 shifter

I like it too - but I have had my C5 for 10 years, I wouldn't mind looking at a C6 shifter.

I can't remember, I tried them both though and I left it with either one or two.

Hey I just did the mod but I only had 15/16th socket in half inch and my torque wrench is 3/8ths so I couldn't use it... I just got it hand tight, if anything a little to much if anything, should I be worried and get it torqued down to the proper 30lbft or am I fine leaving it?

Does this reduce the stiffness, or only rhe notchiness? Researching shifters for a GTO, looking for a way to reduce stiffness of an aftermarket shifter. Thanks

Hello I saw u have a short shifter when it was full size was it to easy to shift , is that why u added the second washer because of short shifter I have a stock shifter and was planning on using 2

I tried 0 washers, 1 washer and 2 washers and went with my preference. I can't recall if I used 1 or 2 - but I know there is at least one in there!

Ive got an MGW and it’s still just tight. Gonna do the AVM while it’s apart this winter and see how that helps.

MGW gets a ton of good reviews. I want to try one to see if it hooks me or not! AVM is a no-brainer.

@@Toys4Life it’s massively better than stock! But mine is just tight all around. It moved fine when I put the lower box together. So it’s something else. Next in line to see what fixes it is this. Seems like typical parts store banjo seals/drain plug seals so it should be easy to locate locally.

Just one question-I had to use a breaker bar and a lot of force to remove the detent. Are you sure 30 ft lbs is the correct torque?

You should not have needed a breaker bar to remove it. It probably had a little bit of corrosion built up since it's 20 years old. I'm 95% sure 30 ft lbs is correct. The only thing I get sure about are death and taxes...

First thing was it didn't like the extra 600 RPM , pedal stuck to floor, so that one was out the door and in was the monster LT1S. LT1S rocks!

Is it worth trying just one washer first or just go for two?

Do you have an issue as we speak. If so can you knock out your old weights and weigh them on a food scale versus one or two washers to see..

Try zero one and two and see which one you like best, personal preference.

Yes, but likely other attributes of the shifter would be altered which you may or may not like and of course it would cost $$

I can’t screw my detent bolt back in, any advice? It just won’t thread on

Unless it's stripped, it should go back in. Try turning it counterclockwise slowly until you feel a little click, and then turn it clockwise. Definitely be careful not to cross thread it 😜.

@@Toys4Life lol. I happen to have a 03 cobra, but i also like other cars so no hate lol but the “ anti venom mod” is popular with 03/04 cobra too, same T56 I guess. I know the t56 in my car is so damn right and notchy I don’t even really enjoy driving it. Been wanting to do this mod for a long time. You didn’t really cover it in the video, but how big of a difference did it make?
