    Here is my take on LFO design tutorials. The Reshift documentation online is nearly worthless because it is so sketchy and sparse. I just bought the RS advanced course from LFO designs and it is incredibly thorough and like a comprehensive textbook online. It is packed with examples, downloads, and files. I am so glad I bought it. Now I can use Redshift they way it is built to be used. I can't get over how gorgeous the crab I just textured is thanks to this course! There is no way I would have even come close to this prior to stumbling onto this online course.Thank you

    As always, thanks for providing your in-depth explanations, has helped me in the past on project challenges. Will you be making an updated guide for the new Redshift (3.0.46+) that now fully supports ACES? Would be a good tutorial to help demystify the process for the masses.

    Hello.can you provide a breakdown which textures should be gamma override enabled and srgb enabled? As of the moment what I understood is that: Roughness should be enabled, how about the albedo, normal and height?

    Gamma override needs only textures which represents data such as : roughness, normal, bump, displacement. Even more details on how to correctly connect textures into the material you can find in our Specular vs Metalness workflow tutorial.

    A little odd these are packaged together with Maxon's subscriptions and you have to work so hard to force the color spaces to match wtf haha.

    Did i miss something for what is now the Gamma Override ?

  • @LFOdesign-Tutorials

    @LFOdesign-Tutorials

    Gamma Override : Redshift renders in linear space, so the texture sampler must de-gamma bit-map textures before sampling. By default Redshift will attempt to automatically compute the correct gamma encoding for the bit-map file. It assumes integer textures formats (like 'png') are sRGB gamma encoded and floating-point (like 'exr' or 'hdr') or scalar textures are linear. The following options allow you to override the de-gamma process. Enable : This option enables the gamma override, ignoring the default assumed gamma encoding. sRGB : When enabled, this option tells the texture sampler to de-gamma based on sRGB gamma encoding. When this is not enabled, an arbitrary Gamma encoding will be used. Gamma : The arbitrary gamma encoding value.

    So I can use a png instead of exr for roughness as long as I run it through a color correct node with gamma 2.2?

  • @LFOdesign-Tutorials

    @LFOdesign-Tutorials

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@marcus_ohreallyus You can use png or jpg for roughness (its very common texture format), but you have to enable gamma override option in texture node. If you dont want to use gamma override in texture node , as second option : you can use CC with gamma 2.2 instead. But for textures which are representing data , is recommended to use gamma override option.

    20 years ago everything was straight forward and working fine, now it is "proper" and "not-proper", but even with "proper" pipeline it is became even more confusing to get something matches to the inputs. Looks like they themselves confused by 10 color space transformations here and there... Instead of nice and clear, as attempted, they all make a mess with all these color transforms.
