Recommended oil for any Mercedes Benz is 5w-40 or 0w-40 (that's oil viscosity) if you live in warm / hot weather region and 5w-30 is recomended if you live in part of the world where is most of the time cold weather, 0 degrees, etc.I usually use Mobil 1 0w-40 European formula or Castrol 5w-40 ,Also you can use Pentosin 5w-40, Penzoil 5w-40 or you can use any oil brand with 5w-40 or 0w-40 viscosity that meets Benz oil CODE (always check your owner manual) if you don't have it, ask dealership, or at auto parts store just give them car info or VIN number of your car.

There is not engine oil dipstik on some Mercedes Benz cars for example my car does not have it. So in that case you check oil level on steering wheel .Basicly, when you do oil change on your Benz you put 1 quart or 1 liter of oil (depends on what you use liter or quart) less than it is needed . Then park car on flat ground and check oil level on steering wheel (how...you can find it on youtube).Then it will shows that you need to add 1L or 1 qrt and you need to put in 0.9L or 0.9 qrt. And then check it again ,it will shows...oil level is CORRECT. So if your car needs 8 qrts .(7.5L) you will pour into your engine just little bit less than that, for example 7.9 qrts to AVOID red light that sometimes pops up saying "reduce oil level" if you put whole amount of 8 qrts.So oil dipstick is not needed.

Not using the correct filter Mann fleece filters can cause poor filtering of your oil and may have to change your oil sooner. Read your manual Mercedes owner’s or call the dealer my kompressor calls for 5w-40 full synthetic, watch what you put in your car just because it’s on sale or cheaper remember it’s a Mercedes. There’s a video here somewhere that explains what happens when you use the wrong oil. Camshaft sensor check engine light is a serious and expensive repair. 0w-40 is too thin, depending where you live and if you’re racing your Mercedes. The part dept will give you the right info. I have priced oil everywhere the dealer is cheaper than the auto stores where I live. Good luck Benz owners.

0w40. Mobil one or European equal type. Also dont go cheap on oil filter, get the Mercedes approve Mann filter.

You can use Mobile 1 ore sentetic

I put 10w30 platinum plus Pennzoil in my 2001 c240 will this effect anything, I have no owners manual

The car that we changed the oil from had 10w30 full synthetic in it and ran fine but after changing to 0w40 (recommended spec) we noticed better acceleration and ran a little smoother. In summary to answer your question, 10w30 should not affect (mechanical) if the temp outside is higher than 25F. The recommended oil for your car would be (Mobil 1 0w40) U.S. spec. Angelina Dicante No it will not hurt but change over to Mobil One 0-40 full synthetic it is recommended by Mercedes also check out using a fleece oil filter. The brand name is Hengst. You can Google this product. These out do paper filters by far.You might want to also check out Mercedessource on KZread. I enjoy watching his videos on Mercedes. He has one on changing his Mecedes oil and filter.

Use what it calls for. If you're unsure call the dealer and they will tell you. Don't try to switch up oils for Mercedes' cars because they are temperamental when it comes to changing oil viscosity. And I would recommend Mobil 1 as that's what it comes with from the factory.
