With a slender radiator grille, four single elliptical headlights - the new face of the brand - it was a nod to a younger audience. Technically, the CLK was based on the C-Class limousine in many respects, but a completely new body design and different details confirmed the model's independence. Features included traction control, an outside temperature display, a leather steering wheel, remote opening of the trunk lid, heat-insulating glass and much more. Was it a success? A total of more than 230,000 units were produced in five years, 65% more than the 124 Series coupe in nine years. What is the Mercedes CLK 230 Kompressor C208 like for the driver? Handy, it has a Baby-Benz feel to it, but that shouldn't be surprising, after all, this is its technical evolution. It charms with its sporty character without sacrificing comfort. It's great that it still has rear-wheel drive, it feels great in the corners when driving fast, and in city traffic it amazes with its maneuverability. The 2.3-liter engine and compressor give it the kind of power that its great-grandson in the form of the 190E model was only able to offer in top-of-the-line, 16-valve versions... but unlike the Baby-Benz, it has the silhouette of a coupe.
