C-SPAN Cities Tour - Saint Paul: Alexander Ramsey House

Learn about Minnesota’s first territorial governor, Alexander Ramsey, by visiting his Victorian-era home filled with thousands of original family items and furnishings. Ramsey served as the first Territorial Governor of Minnesota from June 1, 1849 to May 15, 1853 as a member of the Whig Party. In 1861, Ramsey was the first state governor to answer President Abraham Lincoln's call for troops at the outbreak of the Civil War. Ramsey went on to be elected as a U.S. Senator and served as Secretary of War under President Rutherford B. Hayes. Jayne Becker, Historic Site Manager at the Ramsey House, will tell his story through a tour of the home and a look at the collection that it houses.
