C-Dory 22' Cruiser: Winter Dungeness crabbing in the Puget Sound

Winter crabbing is open in Washington! Come along as we take the C-Dory out to try our luck, and see if we ended up with tasty Dungeness crab.
We started out making Dungeness crab omelettes, then head out on the boat. After arriving at the crab traps we pull them to see what we caught.
All in all, a great day crabbing on the Puget Sound, ant the C-Dory cabin cruiser showing what a perfect PNW boat it is.
Thanks for watching!

Wow that first pull was amazing. All males and huge. The C dories are a great boat. The flat bottoms make them a very fuel efficient design. However that flat bottom can make for a rough ride when the water gets choppy. But I believe it's a great compromise. Have a great day 🌤 🦀🍻😁👍

On the other side of the world in Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia there were two fantastic crab species that are still much sought after and fantastic prawns. The mud crab and the sand crab or blue swimmer to name them. There are many stories from the old-timers that when the sandies were on pre-overdevelopment times eg up to the 1960's, that big tigers and even great whites would arrive to feast on these crabs and giant schools of prawns, kings and bays. These sharks would literally open their mouths and push along the bottom, usually sand and seagrass beds to scoop up the over-abundant populations. You would see long furrows on the bottom and often in pretty shallow waters. Who doesn't like fresh crabs and prawns. PS muddies are more mangrove shore based crabs and don't school like sandies do.

Everybody has a different method for cleaning Dungeness crab. I always pull an extra bucket of saltwater plus the bucket of saltwater my crabs are in. I take them home live, boil the water from both buckets in my propane heated giant pot/caldron then drop the crabs in live. After 20 or so minutes of cooking the crab I drop the cooked crabs into a bucket of cold fresh water, then I clean them and toss the guts out for the seagulls that are always around living so close to the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

I make an inside out omelet. Two tbs. butter in 8' nonstick pan add crab, mushrooms. sauté until mushrooms are soft. add beaten eggs stir now and then tell egg start to set. add salt and lemon pepper, grated Monterey jack, chopped green onions, Fold in half when plaiting. Microwave one Minet or so to set eggs and melt cheese a bit Top with salt, lemon pepper, hollandaise sauce, and a sprinkle of paprika. You can make it with crab, shrimp, and lobster chunks also. side with home fries. This is why my wife loves me and lets me fish. lol I have a 1964 21 ft Glaspar, someday I see a C Dory in my driveway. Always liked their lines. good looking boats.

You're looking at a 1026 PEDESTAL SWIVEL MOUNT as the base, with a 1023 TILT-UP MOUNTING BRACKET on top of that, then a 423 DOWNRIGGER ROD HOLDER ADAPTER, and finally the 750 TRAP-EASE to that... It may have almost been cheaper for me to wait for a sale on the electric pot puller....

I'll give you some criticism boys the way you clean them that's nice way but the best way to do it cook them in the shell why because you get all the good juices when they're cooked in the shell and all the good fat that you can make crab soup I'm in the best stuff from the best stuff is in the shell but a lot of people will just do it your way crack them and throw all the junk all the junk in the ocean and I think you're just wasting all the good stuff but this that's the way I always done it whole whole crab in the boiling and boil them I just think they taste better personally but this that's me
