Tapi Gas Pipeline is one of the largest gas transmission projects in the region, and with its implementation, Afghanistan will become an economic corridor between Central Asian and South Asian countries. In addition, the mentioned project is considered the most beneficial project for Afghanistan.
The plan for the initial talks to transfer natural gas from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan, known as TAPI, was first started in the 90s; But in 2003, with the financial support of the Asian Development Bank, he actually entered into serious negotiations. Until 2008, India officially joined this project, which is one of the reasons for the implementation of the project. The main goal of the mentioned project is to transfer (33) billion cubic meters of gas per year from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.
The parties involved in this project established Tapi Joint Stock Company (TPCL) in late 2014, which is responsible for the construction and management of the project. It should be remembered that the shares of the company are owned by Turkmengaz, Afgangaz Enterprise, Pakistan Gas System Private Company and Gil Hindustan Private Company.
