@Zoomer Stasi There is no Third Rome. Only Old Rome from Lazio and New Rome from Bosphorus, both built and made up of capitals of the same empire that was born latin and pagan, died greek and christian, but which was always legally Roman from its foundation to its fall. Underneath all these countless dynasties, from the Julio-Claudians to the Palaiologos, there were institutions that functioned around the clock. Rome was not just the Kingdom, the Republic, the Empire, the Principality, the Dominate, the Tetrarchy, the Diarchy, West or East, Paganism or Christianity, Latinity or Hellenism. Rome was first and foremost the Roman State and its civilization, regardless of other factors, and that State died long before a Third Rome was built.
@raynusgremont3664
Жыл бұрын
@Zoomer Stasi Russia may even have links with Rome, such as having the blood of the last dynasty in the veins of the Romanovs, having married its nobility to Greeks, having inherited the Christian-Orthodox religion and even having received Greeks. But it is not Rome, it is not the Roman State. It is another State, and another Civilization.
@raynusgremont3664
Жыл бұрын
@Zoomer Stasi The papacy's authority was questioned even by the eastern Roman emperors, those who were left and who had full right to claim their rights as Romans. After the western network Rome lasted with institutions like the western senate but which gradually died without the empire, the church may have been left but only it remained in the west while in the east all roman institutions still endured soon, the Roman State endured and did not accept the creation of one equal to it. Having said that, the Pope was not the Roman State and without a Roman State there is no Third Rome in Aachen… Unless your initial claim that the Tsardom was the Third Rome because of its connection with the eastern romans has been dispelled by discrediting the very legality of the eastern roman empire.

Other emperors of old, other burial places for themselves ordained, But I, Basil, born to the purple, place my tomb on the site of Hebdomon and I sabbatize from the endless toils which I accepted in battles, and which I endured. For nobody saw my spear at rest, from when the King of Heavens called me autokrator of the earth and senior emperor. but remaining vigilant through the whole span of my life guarding the children of New Rome when I marched bravely to the West (Hesperia), and as far as the very frontiers of the East (Eos), settling countless trophies all over the earth. The Persians and Scythians (Bulgars) bear witness to this, and along with them the Abasgian, Ishmael, the Arab, the Iberian. And now, man, looking upon this tomb reward my campaigns with prayers. -Epitaph on the tomb of Basil II the Bulgar Slayer

Long live the Eastern Roman Christian Empire and its descendants, the Orthodox Christians from the Balkans and Romania. Here, in its shadow, the modern peoples of the Greeks, Romanians, Albanians and Slavs (Bulgarians, Serbs, Macedonians and Montenegrins) lived, acquired their language, culture, orthodox faith and laws (inspired by Justinian's Code). It was an example of state organization that many Eastern European states copied centuries after the fall of Constantinople, including, in some respects, the Ottomans and the Arabs. As a miscellaneous fact, the crescent symbol is taken from the heraldry of this empire and is also found in that of the Romanians, for example. We still recommend ourselves as citizens of this empire ("romanus, romaion") through the Orthodox ritual faith in which it is still alive and which promises us after death that we become "citizens of Heaven".

@@xsfsdsdhen1739No, Byzantium was the name of the city prior to being christianized and renamed to Constantinople. The Western Europeans only started labeling the East as Byzantium during the 1700-1800s because many of the enlightenment thinkers of the time were staunchly anti-Christian. Every person who lived in Eastern Rome even up to the fall of Constantinople still referred to themselves as Romans, and were by all logical reasoning, the true Romans.

@@bullmoosevelt4495 The true Romans? What is a true Roman? It is in a grade relative. For sure Greeks called themselves Roman in these day's just like in these days( almost though, roman now is just a synonym to the word Greek, but in the previous century in Greek language Roman meant Greek). I would define however the True and traditional romans the ones that lived in the west mainly and in the classical age. I am not sure about how is it defined, but i dont think this is a very strange way to distinguish the eastern and western romans. Ethnicity also matters, because byznsitj were mainly ethnic Greeks with Roman citizenship after the loss of the African territory and the Northern balkans, Which actually happened at the very early years of the empire.
@bullmoosevelt4495

@@xsfsdsdhen1739 I define them as true Romans solely because they were the last remaining structure of the original Roman Empire. When they split into East and West, they could both be considered the true Rome, but then the western half collapsed to the barbarian invasions, while the eastern Roman’s continued to survive for a thousand years longer. The kingdoms and people in the west that later claimed to be Roman were not Roman at all, but the descendants of the barbarians that invaded Rome and destroyed it. And then Christianized under a church that was heretical to the original Church of Rome which was Orthodox.

@raynusgremont3664

And it is hardly surprising: Basil was ugly, dirty, coarse, boorish, philistine and almost pathologically mean. He was in short deeply un-Byzantine. He cared only for the greatness of his Empire. No wonder that in his hands it reached its apogee"

@bullmoosevelt4495
