The Cougar Song
By Clyde D. Sandgren, 1932
Rise all loyal Cougars and hurl your challenge to the foe.
You will fight, day or night, rain or snow.
Loyal, strong, and true
Wear the white and blue.
While we sing, get set to spring.
Come on Cougars it's up to you. Oh!
Chorus:
Rise and shout, the Cougars are out
along the trail to fame and glory.
Rise and shout, our cheers will ring out
As you unfold your victr'y story.
On you go to vanquish the foe for Alma Mater's sons and daughters.
As we join in song, in praise of you, our faith is strong.
We'll raise our colors high in the blue
And cheer our Cougars of BYU.

I love it .. wear my byu top with pride here in Leeds England UK..
Like commenters below, I was expecting something hip-hoppin' and energetic, but the pensive mood inspired thought for me. Blessed by my days at BYU, my faith IS strong, so what am I doing now to "vanquish the foe," the real enemy of our souls? "Rise all loyal cougars," rise to set a standard for the world in the way we live and speak among our neighbors and communities worldwide. "We will fight day or night," honestly the great work we are about can be exhausting and feel around-the-clock, but we will not lose conviction or slack our pace. "Come on, Cougars! It's up to you!" I felt reminded of our strength and need to continue to use our abilities to bless the world. Thanks for the encouragement, Vocal Point!

Kari, you gave us chills - very well put!!!
I'm sure a lot of great work went into this, but definitely not a fan of all of the stylistic choices made with the song and using synths instead a capella...
It's a rousing song, but this arrangement is plodding and doesn't fit the excitement of the video.
Cougar fight song, or funeral song? The answer may surprise you.
Love it, gave he a tear.
Solid. Go Cougars!
Vocal point was n the show “the sing off” that’s how I remember them
Love this arrangement.
It's bittersweet to see all this footage before masks and social distancing were a thing.
I liked it. I've never heard VP before so wasn't aware this broke the mold. I liked how it built from soft to rockin' similar to Stairway to Heaven.
This is amazing. Well done, gents!
I guess it's not for everyone, but I really like this video and the rendition of the fight song.
Wait, isn't VP's whole thing that they're a capella? Why does this have bagpipes (?) in the background?
Love vocal point, don't love whoever directed this...
I thought this was awesome--Go VP, Go BYU!
I went to BYU 32 years ago. Never went to no feetsball game, never heard a song about Cougars being out, and this sort of makes me nauseous for some odd reason. Maybe it's the electronic thing done to the voices?
Granted, it's different. But the first half of the arrangement is chloroform. It's sleep-inducing. Fortunately, the next part of the song picks up some rhythm. But to keep people awake, it badly needs an up-tempo third section, perhaps in a rock and roll anthemic arrangement. Think Queen, not this schmaltsy stuff. Unfortunately, the arrangement here just isn't going to get any cougars to rise and/or shout.
Why is it autotuned? VP sounds fine without it, this is just...not good.

i'm pretty sure its just a stylization choice, since its a very synth heavy song. well done gents!

I've heard them without autotune and it was also bad. This is bad as well.
Trying to figure out why I don't enjoy this. Hard to put my finger on it.
Love me some Vocal Point, but this is possibly the least amount of fight I've ever heard in a fight song. The autotune doesn't work with a cappella, and the pace is funereal, even the faster 2nd half. The imagery looks designed to hype BYU, but the audio is melancholy at best. Beautifully shot though, so there's that.
Funeral march
Sleepy and awkward.
I appreciate whoever arranged and produced this, but I don't think the stylistic choices they made are fitting and in all honesty I think it detracts from the enriching history of the university by straying from the anthem/alma mater style. But that's just my opinion, if the majority of people like it then it is what it is.

Blake- I just noticed that six male professors were highlighted in the video to one female. I'm hoping this is not the case on campus.

Me thinks they need to go back to the writing board and figure it out....What happened to the RISE AND SHOUT THE COUGARS ARE OUT!!!! With some anthem. that rendition was scary pathetic!
Autotuned....YUCK!
This is painful to listen to. Ugh.
I love auto tune. It's my favorite.
Dumb arrangement.
So sad. Reinforces my disdain for anything acapella. Who thinks this is any good?

This isn't in any way a cappella.
