It’s early in this journey for me but I can see my cancer is a gift. If you’re still out there Pam you were just so beautiful & I thank you for being there for me today. Brisbane Australia

    Almost at the end of last year, I was asked to translate this video into Korean by one of my youtube channel subscribers saying it would be very helpful for the cancer patients like her. It has been an amazing journey to translate this beautiful inquiry for the past two weeks. Watching the video again and again for the translation, I felt like I was at The School doing my work. Thank you so much for uploading this beautiful video of The Work. The Work has transformed my life completely and it's the greatest blessing of my life.

    Get that she and God are the same? When people say someone 'gets' Katie's work it often involves the person crying, saying lots of counter-intuitive things and pretty much having a sort of identity breakdown. In this case the person was incredibly vulnerable and facing death. I really want to know what you mean when you said she 'got it'.

    It definitely encapsulates elements of those perspectives - and with a significant foundation of nondualism underlying the whole approach. Katie doesn't speak about that aspect quite so much, but it's very clear, particuarly in her book A Mind At Home With Itself, and an earlier title, Losing The Moon.

    look at the part when the girl said she did not want to get cured of the cancer, or that she even has it, and a few minutes later, in the reversal, she said she really want to - and that's exactly the problem of this work - that it doesn't allow ppl to feel the real thing, to sink into the broken part, the sad part, to touch the real pain, but to remain in a denial state they were in the first place. a mother cannot feel happy for her child to die.. nomatter how many goods she may find of it during the process, or a person having some health issues cannot jump up high that he has it - unless they're lying to please katie's work, which is nice for a public event, but doesn't work in the long run.

  • @BrianCormackCarr

    @BrianCormackCarr

    5 жыл бұрын

    I understand what you mean, and I can certainly see how it's possible to see it that way. However, for me, The Work is about the opposite of denial. It's about facing up to what's happening, since we never have a choice - what's happening is what's happening, whether we like it or not. I think it's also important to remember that it's perfectly OK to answer "YES!" to both of the first two questions - so we can absolutely own our feelings of unhappiness or anger in a situation. "I want the cancer to stop growing, is it true? YES!" "Can I absolutely know that I want it to stop growing? HELL, YES!" And then it's a case of working through the next questions. For me one of the most powerful moments in the video is when Katie asks Pam, "How do you react when you attach to the thought that you want the cancer to stop growing, and the doctor says, 'It's growing'?" Then we get to see the effect of the painful thought on top of the effect of the pain of the cancer. And The Work is never about rejecting thoughts - simply questioning them, and then seeing what emerges as a result.

    Guy Madison Yes, but that’s the point, I think - she’s (presumably) being treated for cancer and it’s still growing. Apparently, being offered a cure isn’t an option. The inquiry isn’t about curing the cancer; it’s about recognising that the thought “I need my cancer to stop growing” - when it IS growing - is only adding to the pain.

    heartchakra2 I think the best way is to watch videos like this one, of Byron Katie facilitating The Work, and then to try out an inquiry for yourself. All the instructions can be found on her website. I’ve also put together my own playlist which gives an overview: kzread.info/head/PLGmxYmAlA7R7-GuRQk6Z3TygPUVSE69vG

    Was Katie saying that she herself was shown to have advanced cancer? Or was this just to demonstrate something to the woman she is talking to? I've heard her say too she was told she had advanced RA- is it me or does this seem a bit incredulously?

    I don't know if she's saying she had advanced cancer, but she does seem to be saying she had cancer in her blood at some point.

    Indeed it is, an enormous gift; a friend of mine, who is a therapist recommanded Katie to me while I was going through some difficult times. I am also fervently practicing Ho'oponopono which goes along so very well with Katie's Work.

    Can someone please explain to me, when katie said the thing about the doctor telling you you have cancer. Eventhough you drop the story around it isnt that living in denial?? Because whether you want to believe you have it or not you still have it? What's the use in denying you have something that you've diagnosed with?

  • @elizabethwilcox9199

    @elizabethwilcox9199

    She isn’t saying not be treated for it but not to attach yourself to the belief. It’s the attachment to the story, “I have cancer,” that engenders stress, worry, and even despair. She’s teaching us to live without all that attachment to the story--not to pretend a wound isn’t gaping or cancer didn’t show up in a tumor.

    @@elizabethwilcox9199 If that's true, then why doesn't Katie explain in more detail if that's what she means? It's confusing for some of us who are actively doing The Work everyday.
