@@juanrodriguez9971 Exactly. We've been hit with 4 consecutive out-of-nowhere third party reps and the final rep of the first Fighters Pass is yet another Fire Emblem character? I'm interested to play Byleth and I kinda wanted them in since I just picked up Three Houses, but I can sympathize with the disappointment people are feeling. We have *eight* Fire Emblem characters now, as many as Pokemon if you don't count Trainer as three characters. The difference is, one series is the highest grossing franchise in any form of media and the other is only mildly popular in comparison.

@@CloverDragon03 And there is another huge difference between Pokemon and FE characters, Pokemon characters as characters and not merely movesets are extremely diverse, while FE characters as characters are really similar. Pokemon: 1 franchise main face, 1 legendary, 2 of 3 kinds of starters, 1 character who imitates the mechanic of changing Pokemon and size difference, 1 not starter or legendary, and 2 jokes (originally). FE: 8 lords, 8 protagonists, 8 obligatory swords, 3 avatars, 7 royal characters, and only 1 body type with the same height. All those similarities just makes that every smash player who isn't a FE fan would see them as two similar and as the same thing, and that is sad because that just don't show the how diverse and interesting is the FE franchise because it only shows the exact same kind of character, again, character, not only the moveset, this is a crossover and people want to know different characters.

@Umbre God fucking imagine Sora. Like Steve broke Twitter but Sora has been requested for years. That's coming from someone that's never even playing KH, I know how badly people wanted him in. He's the one fighter that I personally didn't want but also wasn't dismissive about his entry. Like I could care less about Sephiroth, Pyra/Mythra, and even Kazuya but Sora, I saw a grown ass man crying watching that trailer. Imagine a whole room of that.

When you have a crowd of people that are known for having "over the top" reactions over anything all of the sudden go silent for once. And you compare it to let's say Hero's reveal or the last pokemon direct, it's a polarizing sight to behold. To be clear, I have no issue with loud reactions with people jumping and screaming. It's good to be passionate about the things you like, especially with something like Smash. That being said, saying the difference between the reactions towards Byleth and all the other characters is jarring to say the least would be an understatement.

Actually on Twitter in Japan Cuphead elicited more of a response than Byleth did. Cuphead was trending at 32K tweets while Byleth only got 17.4K Tweets. Japan cared more about a Costume based on a North American video game based on old American cartoons than the Japanese Anime character. Truly no one was happy with this.

I think that byleth should have been in pass 2. I really like Byleth's inclusion but having them as the last dlc in wave one was a bad option. Should have made them first of wave 2 but oh well. When the biggest cheer in the whole video is about a joke about Smash having too many swordfighters

@@gekkovonthefish7310 While some people take it too far, you cant blame them. It feels weird to have so many of them for free but suddenly we have to pay for one, and the fact that it was the last fighter revealed. I have nothing against it myself but I'm not surprised people were disappointed.

Nintendo, when people had a stronger reaction to a character out of a beat 'em up franchise from the 90s than they do the protagonist of one your most recent AAA titles being in Smash, you dun goofed.

That’s not the problem. The smash fan base has such a deep hatred for fire emblem and “sword characters” three houses is one of the highest selling switch games and is pretty damn good it’s just the smash fan base can’t understand that swords are a common weapon used by popular video game characters

@@whyequalswhat I know. Honestly, even giving a Link a unique kit would suffice. Like imagine Young Link has a down special that allowed him to swap between the Deku, Zora, and Goron mask like Pokemon Trainer? Or even giving Toon Link his crazy spin attack from Wind Waker after you give Orca 15 Knights Crests, and even have his grab be the grappling hook rather than the hookshot? Fire and Ice arrows? I've got nothing for BotW Link. Hell it'd even be cool to see Impa as a fighter. Not someone I want, even as a massive Zelda fan, but at least it's a Zelda fighter that doesn't hold a damn piece of the Triforce.

@@hasthehighground8560 Fittingly so. You saying the game is good doesn’t mean squat. There’s tons of good games not represented. But Fire Emblem ALWAYS gets the special treatment. There have been 3 Fire Emblem characters in Smash DLC. Three. That’s more than some series have characters in Smash.

Even if the 5th DLC would divide the fanbase, we'll all still be playing Smash Ultimate for what it is.

A celebration of videogames, right? Gee, Three Houses characters fought hard and waited patiently for that spot, specially when they only waited LESS THAN A FUCKING YEAR (!!!!!) for their deserved inclusion. Pffft, stand aside, characters that waited OVER FIFTEEN YEARS to be included, you ain't the priority... Byleth needs the spot more than you!

@@dragonbornexpress5650 To be fair, Hero quickly got overshadowed by Banjo. I remember clocking out of work and seeing news everywhere about Banjo and Sans and I think I heard about Hero like a day or two later.

As much as I like Sakurai and knew Byleth was most certainly coming, it didn't feel like a good time.

I just looked up "smash direct" on Google during class and didn't know who Byleth was. Then I saw what series he was from and was dissapointed.

Now go watch the banjo kazooie reaction.

I’m glad that even though they don’t personally like the character, they still show some excitement... much better than the people who send death threats to sakurai

Looking at this crowd. It looks like only 3-5 people are making all the noise while everyone else is just trying to figure out what is going on.

A shame the last reaction from the New York store had to be on Byleth's reveal. I know they would have gone crazy with some of the later DLC characters like Steve and Sora.

Glad to see actual excitement instead of anger, like I feared. But honestly, I'm just gonna keep coming back here for the reaction to the "too many swordsman" joke. Sakurai fucking KNEW what he was doing when he did this. *Also, don't forget that this means Cassandra Lee Morris is a voice in two fighter packs.*

@@alrox9760 Dude, I'm probably as hype as hype can be for this (I almost fell out of my chair when I recognised the TWSITD theme at the beginning). I absolutely ADORE Three Houses and while I might have prefered one of the lords over Byleth (namely Edelgard), I'm just so stoked to see 3H rep at all; the lack of spirits was making me nervous. I like Byleth anyways and they look like fun so this was a good day for me.

Bro, even the Cuphead COSTUME got more hype than this. Overall, the way they handled this reveal was beyond terrible.

The most underwhelming crowd reaction so far. The crowd in these always go mad and over reacts. Their reaction says it all.

*when you're cheering only because you want to keep it positive*

love that there's some people that are okay with it/happy, absolutely fucking enraged, and the like three people laughing in the midst of the chaos unraveling before their very eyes

Even though this was the weakest of all the NY reaction and these guys weren’t to hype for Byleth I like how they weren’t that salty about it either they still cheered every now and then to at least show appreciation.

Honestly this is how most Smash fans should react like “not my cup of tea but alright at least it’s something new” and if you are gonna be negative about it, which is fine we have our opinions just don’t say stupid things like “Fire Sakurai”.

Some people don't want to believe the crowd went silent... 0:58 for 7 seconds 1:31 for 3 seconds 2:02 for 2 seconds until the joke 2:15 for 1 or 2 seconds 2:35 for 4 seconds

They sounded so emotionless when they said "yay"

The last Smash Reveal before Pandemic. Hard to take that fact in...

I like how the Sans reveal, a MII FIGHTER. Was much much louder than an actual character.

I have been playing this game for a few weeks now, and genuinely can't tell which Fire Emblem character I am about to play (i.e. before the match starts) unless I look at their name at the bottom of the screen. A few is fine, but it's kind of ridiculous now.
