@@HZConqueror Considering what happens to Edelgard, the first logical move for Thales would be to kill off Hubert as quickly as possible. All of Edelgard's other friends would be too scared to move against him like Hubert would.

@@omega-kiba7188 After Jeralt's death, Byleth gives 'full' control over to Sothis to exact revenge. Sothis doesn't care who it is that dies by her hands, Shez killed Jeralt so she'll do everything to make their lives as miserable as possible. Sothis' actions through Byleth get Claude killed in SB if you didn't recruit Jeralt and Byleth. In AG, Rodrigue gets killed and in GW, Judith dies. Neither Randolph, Rodrigue nor Judith deserved to die as they weren't involved in Jeralt's death in Three Hopes given that Shez let their feelings for revenge get the better of them.

I personally tbh prefer the Azure Gleam route of "evil" Byleth killing a playable character has a lot more weight to it then characters that are green and unplayable.

@@wolfspider2034 Yeah it would’ve been way more emotional, like what if byleth went for Edelgard instead of randolph but before they kill her monica steps in and gets killed instead. Or in the case of GW instead of Edelgard it’s Hilda and Holst tries to defend her until he eventually dies.

Imagine saving her from a terrible death in Chapter 2 just for her to die if you choose to continue feuding with Byleth, however her death would bring a big impact to Edelgard since Monica it's one of the most loyal commanders in her army along Ferdinand, Caspar and Hubert.

It's equal weight in both Scarlet Blaze and Azure Gleam even though Rodrigue is playable and Randolph isn't. In Azure Gleam it's two-folded, Rodrigue's death makes Dimitri even more devoted to working himself to the extreme just to overcome the pain of losing a close friend and Felix is distraught over losing his father. In Scarlet Blaze, it's two-fold and three-fold, first, Randolph's death is shown in battle against Byleth much like Judith in GW with both Fleche and Claude realizing how futile fighting back is in their respective routes. Fleche lost her older brother, Count Bergliez lost his (step)son and Caspar lost his uncle. Third-fold comes that in Scarlet Blaze, failing to recruit Jeralt and Byleth results in CLAUDE getting killed aka, a playable Lord dying. The deaths of the characters are those heavily linked to your respective Lord as well as to you. Randolph is one of Edelgard's strongest and most trusted Imperial generals alongside Count Bergliez and Ladislava and is also one of your closest NPC allies as a friend given how much he praises and thanks you in most of his conversations. Claude's death (indirectly caused by Byleth) is shocking because Edelgard sincerely believed that Claude was going to remain true to the pact and is saddened by the sudden betrayal. Rodrigue is a father-like figure to Dimitri, literal father to Felix and a mentor-like figure to Shez in Azure Gleam, his A-Support with Shez makes his death even more painful. Judith is one of the two other Roundtable Lords other than Erwin, Lorenz's father who takes action when the time comes and is perhaps the only sane ally that can keep Claude on the ropes and who the latter personally places his trust in.

In Scarlet Blaze of Three Hopes, I considered Randolph like a good kid. He needs to be dlc playable.

Out of the 8 routes total from 3H and 3Hopes, it's really sad that Randolph can only survive a single route in all of them. I do wish that Randolph had gotten more development. He should have been a playable character and had support. Get to know him more so that the other characters and us, the audience, could have cared for him a lot more. That would make each death in the other routes also saddening.

They should have made a lot of characters playable to be honest, Hanneman, Randolph, Fleche and Ladislava because canon wyvern riders are fucking cool. They could give them abilities pertaining to their character traits like perhaps Hanneman can do some sort of boost to crest wielders or Fleche can do some type of assassination ability. And over on Golden Wildfire, Judith and Nader are literally right there, they're even present in most of the maps and paralogues even, Count Gloucester too to a lesser extent.

Hubert's intent to kill or heavily injure the Ashen Demon was pretty clear here compared to when he always advised everyone to not engage them in battle...even if it was actually a warning to 'Byleth' that their presence is certainly not welcomed anymore. The A-Support between Hubert and Edelgard, assuming you did recruit Jeralt and Byleth indicates that despite being a constant thorn to the Empire's progress up until now, the only real good reason for keeping them alive and allowing them to be in the Imperial Army is due to just how overly powerful they are (in the story not gameplay) and useful as allies. Unlike the other characters in other routes who voice the fact that trying to recruit Jeralt and Byleth would be a good cause and idea given how monstrously strong they are, Edelgard doesn't voice as much and Hubert seems to carry doubts about such actions until they're recruited.

In 3 houses he always got the short end of the stick with him always dying and he was always really cool talking to him at monastery/base camp. So seeing him die **again** like this makes us really feel for him since now he still doesn’t catch a break in the normal endings for this game

I first replayed the mission where you don’t recruit byleth on AG and thought since they killed rodrigue who was playable that they’d kill Monica and holst on the other two routes. While Judith has the same emotional impact. I think Randolph dying has no weight anymore, cause they’ve done it before and he’s not fleshed out enough to care about

@@thescarredraven2634 You're also forced to kill Claude in Chapter 14 if you failed to recruit Jeralt and Byleth in Chapter 10 as Claude falls for 'Byleth's' words before the battle commences. Meaning that 'Byleth' manages to kill two characters, one of whom indirectly.

Watching this right now after just having recruited the Ashen Demon in SB. I swear to God if after all the effort I gave to save Randolph, he still slips on a banana or catches a cold and dies later or something I am going to be very mad

Spoilers for the other routes: Fr Randolph dying is lowkey funnier than tragic especially with how the two ppl that die in the other routes have close ties to well liked characters or is playable theirselves vs just a regular Imperial General with a sister to make it slightly sadder that is never nowhere near as interesting in any scene he’s in on any route

I'm surprised at how many people in the comments actually care tbh. When I played 3 Houses they just seemed like throwaway units. They had portraits but killing them was no different from all the other generics.

And that’s why I make sure to recruit Byleth. Even more so in Azure Gleam than here, but I still do so in all three routes.

Fleche just can't catch a break, Randolph dies in every route even in three houses (excluding White clouds, Cindered shadows). I feel bad for Fleche

i cant help but feel like if monica died it would've been better i mean monica has been with you since chapter 2 and playable like randolph they both aspire to please edelgard in every way possible so her dying would've held much more gravity for everyone including shez and edel who in three houses left her to die at the hands of kronka

This would've been more impactful if the game gave me a reason to care about Randolph. Like really Randolph of all characters? He died in the other game and the other route so make me care about him in this route

Are we supposed to feel bad abpit Rodulf lol, I wish at least that he was playable & with supports. Being unplayable & not having supports, his entire character is trying to kill to please Edel so he can make a name for himself, it's kinda boring & evil ngl but they could ar least flesh him out. At least Judith knows Claude & is a friend of his mom, even if she's not playable or has supports. She's not much better than Randolf but she is better at least. The best character belongs to Blue Lions; Rodrigue, he's playable, has awesome supports that expand on characters/lore, he is connected to almost everyone from the older generation (Lambert, Matthias..) to the new generation Dimitri, Glenn, Felix, Ingrid, Sylvain, Gustav. Not to mention him living/dying affects the story/characters.

Randolph is actually fleshed out in Azure Gleam of all routes in terms of his character and stance on war. Like Dimitri, Randolph despite not minding fighting for the Empire, despises corrupt leaders and needless killing of innocents and destruction of homeland belonging to others even mentioning how all the good leaders are basically all 'gone' in the Empire. The only negative aspect is that he's now forced to serve Thales and former Count. Aegir which clearly doesn't suit him at all (who would want to serve those two hate sinks?) to where Jeralt notes that Randolph seems to be looking for a way to die which to the latter, is very unusual given how long Jeralt has known Randolph by now. He's not his 'I'm willing to commit vile acts if it allows me to make a good name for myself and my household' self here in AG, Randolph is legit antagonized by how low the Empire has fallen. Even Shez and Dedue notice that all the harm to the countless villages doesn't fit how the Empire used to act.

Arguably the real "cost" to not recruiting Byleth on SB is not being able to team up with Claude. Still, poor Randolph tho.

Hard agree with that one. Randolph is a red shirt that has no bearing on anyone. Rodrigue is a playable character and a nice guy besides. Judith is also a nice character and she does mean something to Claude and the rest. Randolph? Who cares?

Is it just me sad about Randolph death? I like him he is a nice guy and he just dies in 2.5 routes 0.5 is SB since he can be saved by recruiting byleth. In AG he is the enemy so of course he dies and in GW he just gets sacrificed because of Claude’s scheme and trying to maximize his gains and minimize his losses. Poor guy just can’t catch a break and than flèche follows suit later a really sad sibling duo and I like them both I mean her motive is justified literally got her only beloved brother killed and is now left alone more or less

ngl the characters on Edelgard's routes just arent as impactful. Rodrigue and Judith felt way more significant characters than fleche, randolph, and the other female wydren rider general. Rodrigue especially, his death felt really impactful.
