Byford & Borgny Dolphin Oil Rigs in Belfast

I'm back down at Belfast docks to take some footage of the newly in Byford Dolphin Oil Rig Platform being repaired/undergoing essential maintenance.The Borgny Dolphin Rig has been in Belfast docks for some tim e now undergoing similar work. she is now sitting seaward in the docks probably ready to go to Scotland's oil fields?
Byford Dolphin is a semi-submersible, column-stabilised drilling rig operated by Dolphin Drilling, a Fred. Olsen Energy subsidiary, and currently contracted by BP for drilling in the United Kingdom section of the North Sea.[3][4] It is registered in Singapore.[1] The rig has suffered some serious accidents, most notably an explosive decompression in 1983 that killed five workers and badly injured one.[

    Accident aside, the Byford Dolphin is such a beautiful rig. I like the bright orange paint job. "Byford Dolphin" is a nice name too.

    Terrible accident that happend in 1983 explosive decompression, poor divers, the divers got ripped apart, the tenders one got killed and the other was heavily injured

    Hi metalmaniac345, I'm not sure I follow you here. Are you saying these giants should be scrapped because of the oil spills/fires you've seen or heard about on them? I think a lot of them are sitting idle at the minute because the Saudis are producing lots of oil and flooding the market so these rigs become uneconomical. The trouble is that when the Saudis kill off all the competition by doing this they are likely to raise prices again. I would be interested to hear your viewpoint.Tom

    Tom McClean ***** In fairness, that accident had nothing to do with this rig. It was a procedural failure on the part of the dive team on deck, helped by a technical flaw on the diving system itself. Good vid, Tom.

    Hey thanks Downlink for taking the time to comment with your information here and thanks for the encouragement. These rigs are amazing structures and yet on the open sea they are like a pin head in size! Totally insignificant such is the size and power of the sea!!
