You can really feel the sadness and emptiness from this episode up to 15 more episodes. Luffy didn't even smile or laugh. It was one of the really frustrating arcs I've ever watched in One Piece.

must of been tough since I’m assuming you were watching this arc when it first came out correct? meaning you would have to wait every week for ONE episode. I’m glad I found abt one piece later on so I could just binge watch all the episodes without having to wait.

The wings of the pirate king held luffy down. Sanji told chopper to understand the situation. Zoro held luffy in check. You can’t waver. Those two never wavered.

I always enjoy Usopp's battles. He has no fighting style, and works only on opponent's weaknesses and surroundings. Each time something new. I wish he was braver, damn

Contrary to alot of people think, I think Ussop is as brave as they come. I just started watching One Piece recently, but never ever did Ussop run away from a fight when the fight TRULY counts. Imagine people with swords, guns, martial arts and devil fruits and you're just some dude from an island who had no fight experience, no mentor, no special ability to rely on except his trusted slingshot. And you fight. You don't always win, but you fight. And Ussop might just be one of the clutchest members of his crew as well. Some spoilers but I believe he saved Robin from the tower sniping the marines, saved his crew from one of Doflamingo's army and many more. He is very brave in my opinion.

Usopp is arguably the bravest person in one piece. He is terrified of everything yet he still fights and goes through everything despite his crippling fear

All these people in the comments calling the opposite opinions "misunderstanding" and telling the other people "you didn't understand a thing, go watch OP from ep1 again" are actually the ones who didn't understand this episode. If you truly believe that Usopp started this fight just over a ship, then you indeed have not understood his character at all. The way I interpret this whole situation, is that there was actually a "series of events" leading to Usopp's downfall/breakdown and eventual departure. "Death of Merry Go" was merely one of these events, and unfortunately, the last straw. Usopp has always been the weakest member of the crew, he knows that too. That's why he had always been ashamed of himself, even if he never showed it. He only showed his positive emotions and laughed alongside everyone else. But deep down, this feeling of being inferior than his other friends had clearly made him feel lonely, sad and scared. He was worried that he wouldn't catch up with everyone else and one day would come that he would have nothing to stay for. Merry Go was always a part of Usopp's benefits. Everybody in the crew added something special to the Straw Hats Pirates: Luffy being the captain, the leader of the team. Zorro being the right-hand man of the leader and his strongest warrior. Sanji being their cook. Nami being their navigator. Chopper being their doctor. Even Robin at this point of the story was already a very useful member to the crew, being a skilled assassin. At first glance, it might appear that Usopp didn't really offer anything to the group the way others did. But he actually did offer something, which was one of the most important blessings to the crew at the time: Their ship! Without Usopp, the crew wouldn't have had a ship, and hence, they wouldn't have been an actual pirate crew at all. To Usopp, Merry isn't only a part of the crew. It is his pride, his one and only reason to be a proud member of the Straw Hats, and something that deeply means to him. At first, I, too, felt this behavior of his was so overdramatic. I couldn't understand why he would leave the crew and fight Luffy just because of a ship, even if he knew the ship for a longer time than the others. It still made no sense to me. It wasn't like Luffy enjoyed abandoning the ship or something! Usopp must have known that much, too. That's why the reason must have been something else! To him, the ship was not only a member of the crew. Not even a very dear memeber of the crew. The ship but was also his one and only "reason" that he himself could think of to be labeled as a "Straw Hat pirate." Of course Luffy and others didn't want Usopp just because of Merry Go; they would love him even without the ship. but Usopp himself didn't think the same way and it's understandable why. He was afraid that without Merry Go, he wouldn't have any more place and value in the crew. Death of Merry would be a sad thing to the Straw Hats. But to Ussop, it would mean that he was no longer of any use to the Straw Hats pirates, and that naturally scared him. He would rather leave the crew himself if in the end, with Merry dying, he had to leave it anyway. Merry was his pride, his only special benefit to his comrades. That's why he acted the way he did. It's actually a perfect character arc that Oda came up with for Usopp. The way Oda has such a good understanding of human hearts and how they work is so amazing to me. OP is full of flawed characters and yet, you can't hate any of them for their flaws because they're just how we, real humans, are, too. We are all flawed.

I think Usopp's actions here are also a really nice parallel to Robin's over the course of this arc, with both of them leaving the Straw Hats due to their fear of becoming a burden. I (personally) feel like it also adds some wait to Usopp being the first Straw Hat to catch up with Robin after she gets taken on the Puffing Tom by CP9, since at that stage they're both going through some very similar (admittedly far from identical) feelings.

ussop when you think about it he got balls ...to question his captains decisions ...now when you think about it he can be brave when he wants to and he'll be badass as fuck..im pretty sure about it

@@joelbrich2538 i agree in a way, it feels especially like that when it keeps showing luffy ALMOST get to ace, but he doesn't actually get anywhere for several more episodes. But the fights are absolute peak and basically everything whitebeard does is the coolest shit in the entire series. I like enies lobby's pacing more, and the "i want to live" thing is one of the best moments in the series, but for me marineford takes the cake with basically everything else. I also like impel down but feel it has the same issues I have with Marineford. It was cool seeing old characters come back and fight together, but boy does it drag sometimes

This scene is magnificent that's why we love One Piece

Without Zoro, the captain would have lost his dignity, the organization would have failed, and they would not have the mentality and determination to face the next strong enemy. And without Sanji, they would have felt inferior and distrustful of each other because of their conflicting claims and inability to understand each other. I think it is a great fortune that I was able to make Zoro, who has a strong will, and Sanji, who is kind and considerate, my friends before entering the Grand Line.

The girls in this are annoying af, the black haired one wants to sound emotional but sounds totally fake. And the worst was the white haired one, she looks bored or annoyed for watching this. This was a world changing moment for the series, and the guy on the top left understands that. I hate that girl eating yogurt at such an emotional turmoil.

I watched some of these videos, i dont sub, idk why, some are entertaining and.. guys.. just want to see a pretty girl watch a video or play a game, i think its kind of like they feel theyre in the same room with the chick or something. Girls know this and they exploit it, it is what it is. Im not complaining. If i find out my son paid these kind of services. Id be pissed. If its my daughter, i'd be.. i'd feel uncomfortable.
