There’s a wave of new electric cars making their way to the UK - and the BYD Atto 3 could be the biggest-selling car you’ve never heard of. While the name may be unfamiliar, the Chinese brand sold over 1.8 million cars globally in 2022, so its international relevance is already confirmed. But a car built for China doesn’t grant it worldwide success; has BYD done enough to convince fussy British buyers with conventional styling and a strong 260-mile range? Rich finds out.

I wish there would be a car reviewer on KZread who wouldn't think that his personal taste is standard. I've seen dozens of reviews on this car alone. Every single one has different opinions but what's worse is that every one also points out the positives or negatives as if they are faults or selling points, while in reality it's mostly personal taste. Some people may want better acceleration, blue interior, vertical screen, normal or sport mode,... so why do reviewers give opinions as if they're laws to live by? This is not a personal attack, you just happen to be the one I finally 'snapped' and felt the need to complain about you AND ALL your colleagues.

We have lots of chinese EVs here in my country. And they are junk. Literally. The look fancy and full of gimmicks, and that’s about it. The hype will be off after you own one for 2 months. And then you’re stuck with some piece of crap made in china stuff. Quality and mainland China does not go together. BYD is not just a battery company. They used to make knock off copycat cars from Toyota Corollas to Previas.

Car colours are really ugly. That’s why the most popular colour is grey! Car companies should use paint companies like Farrow & Ball or Sherwin Williams to produce more sophisticated colours eg British Racing Green, French Navy, Tan, or Ivory. That screen rotator is dangerous as it could distract the driver from looking at the road. It would look better on the back seats.

BYD have a terrible reputation, shoddy workmanship, exploding batteries, airbags not activating to say the least. You'd have to be insane to invest in any Chinese made verhicle.

I doubt given this comment you’re actually interested, but on the offchance you are - EVs really are statistically way safer and less likely to burn than conventional cars. You hear about it whenever one does burn, because the headlines grab attention. Nobody bats an eyelash when a normal car burns. And why should they? It’s never been an uncommon occurrence in cars as long as they have been around. Also, look up LFP batteries. Except for high performance EVs, most use this chemistry now which unlike older chemistries, basically can’t do thermal runaway even if something goes catastrophically wrong (like a metal object puncture). It’s almost impossible to make them burn. These cars use LFP batteries. Anyway love or hate EV’s you do you. I’m in support of people making their own choices 💪

on top of what you said, the BYD's blade battery tech, as found in the atto3, is currently one of the safest there is. Even Tesla is now using their batteries for cars built in Germany.@@JoshuaMcTackett

@@JoshuaMcTackett Brand new ICE cars don’t burn houses while they’re sitting off in the garage at night. And look at all the statements from actual firefighters dealing with EV fires around the globe. And tell me still that EVs don’t have fire problems. There’s a brand new mercedes Benz EQE350 replacement car burning a house in the US as well a few weeks ago. You are on youtube commenting this. Just search and you will find. The car was not being charged, just sitting there. In fact, i don’t have to list the examples to you one by one. You can see all the news and videos for yourself.

Never EVER buy BYD EV’s. They are super unsafe with sudden battery fires and inferior safety technologies. This is one of those examples where the lower price is not worth it. I have seen lots of fancy looking BYD EV’s burning while traveling China and it’s a pretty scary experience.
