I feel like the cheese would do a lot better added directly to the bottom bun. Then it would melt into the bread instead of sliding off a piece of meat and burning to the edges. Bet it would make a great texture too.

Yes. That's how you should do it. I have this device and if you put the cheese on top of the meat, it will not stick to the egg. It just slides right off.

I have one of these, and cheese directly on top of the bottom bun is definitely the way to go. Also preheat longer, cook for 4 minutes, and the egg doesn’t leak. Cheese on bottom bun also produces a sandwich that doesn’t slide around as much. I usually just plug it in as soon as I decide I want breakfast then start grabbing the stuff.

Some tips, make sure you pre-heat it, oil the cooking surfaces, after you add the egg, cook for a minute and a half, then add the top muffin and cook another minute to a minute and a half. Leaving the egg to cook a bit first before adding the top bread decreases the cooking time so the bottom doesn't overcook. And as you stated, add the cheese after the sandwich is done cooking. Make several on theweekend, wrap each tightly in plastic wrap and freeze for future use. Remove from plastic, wrap in paper towel andmicrowave 90 seconds or so, depending on how strong your microwave is. Very convenient for weekdays.

I love my breakfast sandwich maker. A few tips I have found: 1. I scramble my egg first, it cooks up into a nice egg disk. 2. I use half a slice of cheddar cheese per sandwich. It melts, but is not all gooey. 3. I don't add the cooking oil at the pre-heat. Once pre-heated I add the bottom muffin, sausage, and cheese, then lower the ring and spray with cooking spray just before adding the egg and top muffin. 4. I have the double sandwich maker, and make up 6 sandwiches at time. They refrigerate or freeze nicely in a sandwich bag. I refrigerate them so I have them for the week, and then microwave them for a minute...perfect.

We take waffles seriously in our house kzread.infoUgkxUfphIgghPSpAXNq6OG2WRYsFVqylcqMn and worked our old one through many years of Sunday brunches till it finally gave out on us. Our old one only made two at a time, this one makes four! Nicely sized 1 inch thick which are lovely! Now the kids don't have to wait as long to eat our weekly waffle breakfast and everyone's are hot if we wait and eat all together! Setting 3 seems to work perfect for golden brown. Be sure to pour the batter in the center of each waffle square, not the center of the iron like the novice that posted the scorched waffles photo. About a 1/4 to 1/3 cup of batter in each seemed to work well for us. We tested making just one at a time so we could use all the remaining batter and it made it just as fluffy and golden as when we made 4!

add the cheese to the bottom of the bun so that the meat touches the bottom of the egg tray. This means the cheese wont melt as fast from touching the griddle. Also use deli sliced cheese or thicker slices so it doesn't liquify.

I had one of these for about 5 years and used it quite often. A few tips that i learned over that time is use grated cheese instead of American. Also the top plate is not big enough to hold a large egg and english muffin most of the time so the egg squeezes out the sides. I also did not like how crisp the top english muffin gets. My final solution for everything was put a muffin in the bottom with some grated cheese and then a sausage patty. Add the egg to the top plate break the yolk and set the timer for 4.5 minutes. After 3.5 minutes the egg is cooked so i add the other half of the muffin for the last minute so it heats through.

This is what I do as well. I didn't like that the egg and the top muffin become fused into a single thing. The texture is kind of strange because the egg soaked into the bread and then cooked. If you wait a little while to add the top muffin and the cheese, it comes out better.

I get 2 pieces of Texas bread and use the circles from the Hamilton Beach unit to cut out the bread. Then I put one slice of the bread on the bottom, then cheese and then the ham or bacon. Lower the first ring and then add the egg and lower the top and wait about 30 to 45 seconds and then add the 2nd piece of Texas bread. I have the older model without the timer. Been using it for a few years now, on most weekdays. It's starting to show its age in that the non-stick coating is starting to flake off of the ring assembly. Particularly the separator plate. The hinge is also getting a bit loose. Still, I love this thing! I was chuckling at this video, and saying he needs help with his technique! 😁😁 1) Use a deli slice cheddar or other harder cheese. Trim the corners and fold them over into a double thick smaller square of cheese. 2) Cheese goes under the meat. 1 & 2 will help with excessive cheese melting. 3) Make sure the separator plate is fully in place before putting the egg in, then give 5 or 10 seconds to set before putting in the top bun. This will eliminate or greatly reduce the spillage. Also, I spray the avocado oil onto a paper towel, then wipe that onto the cooking surfaces after the unit heats up. Spraying it on directly before heating seems messy to me.

As others have said you should definitely be putting the cheese on top of the bottom muffin (I think it mentions this in the manual) and also I always use real cheese and have never had a problem. Kraft Singles melt to fast and don’t taste as good. From what I’ve seen, it takes about 4.5 minutes to cook through if you put the ingredients on immediately after it’s done preheating, but after a few minutes of being pre-heated if you start your sandwich at that point it will cook the same in 1 - 1.5 minutes less.

This is practically a nostalgia item, for me. My father-in-law had an older version of this thing, which he called the "Egg McMuffin Machine," and I thought it was awesome. My wife (then girlfriend) wouldn't let me buy one. When we got married, my father-in-law gave us one as a gift, trumping my wife's concerns. We used to make a lot of early morning road trips, and I'd often get up a little earlier than necessary and make a couple of sandwiches for on the road. It became something of a tradition. We didn't really use the machine much outside of early morning road trips, as it was almost as easy to just make a proper breakfast on the stove, but we really enjoyed it for those occasions. When our unit finally died, we didn't replace it, but I'll always have fond memories of the HB "Egg McMuffin Machine".

If you let it heat for the proper amount of time, the egg white will set pretty fast and won't spill out. I also use a spreadable cream cheese with onion and chives, it heats up but doesn't get all gooey.

I have the double version, and we love it. I use all sorts of different shapes and sizes of bread too. I used to cut them into circles, but I don't bother anymore. You can just cram them in there and it works just fine. I don't have quite as big a problem with my cheese, possibly because I only cook mine about 4 mins and I don't use processed cheese slices. We've had ours for years and it has held up perfectly.

@@GreenDudeHC If you wait for the egg to set up a little bit, which kind of seals up the cracks, before you put the bread on and close the top, it does reduce the leaking. Two things I do that fix problems in the video. Let it preheat beyond when the green light comes on. The middle part get hotter so the eggs will start cooking in contact and not leak. I break the corners off the cheese so it fits better. I put two corners below the meat, the middle part above the meat and two corners above the egg.

I meal prepped my version of the starbucks egg and gouda breakfast sandwich and I have to say that when I do that again this product would cut the process from 1 hour and half to 35 minutes for 7-8 sandwich's to 35 or 40 minutes if it is 5 mins per sandwich to cook. This is going to be my next kitchen investment, also for anyone wondering how to make that sandwich with the Hamilton breakfast sandwich maker. I would add the cheese. on top before the top piece of bread so it comes out gooie like in the third sandwich in the demo video and enhances the taste of the egg and bacon as you bit into it.

I'll usually toast the top piece of bread and add it at the end (I don't like the egg soaking into the bread). Makes a perfect breakfast sandwich.

I just purchased one of these after the Christmas break and received it in the mail yesterday. Mine is black and doesn’t have a timer on it. It does have the red and green lights where when I plugged it in the red light was on to indicate the unit was preheating. Then after a few minutes the red light went off and the green light came on. After loading it up and after about five minutes the green light went off. It must be a different model of the same machine by the same company. A pretty good sandwich on my first try. When cleaning I discovered a little cheese had leaked onto the bottom cooker and a little in the back where all the hinges come together. Easy clean up. Only thing, i need to add a meat. I know I can buy frozen precooked sausage but I don’t eat pork. Maybe turkey sausage or something. I’ll be using this thing a lot!

I make my sausage and egg muffins differently. I've found a frypan on Amazon that has 'indents' that can hold an egg and cook it completely round. I can place my sausage into another 'indent' and top and bottom into the final two 'indents' I can assemble when done to my liking and add cheese or not, depending on my mood. There are other versions of the pan with both four and five sections to them.

I like the way you did it with 2 pans and the toaster a lot better. This device isn't toasting both sides of the muffin which is crucial for texture, and this would also allow me to butter the muffins for even more flavor. Can't see how many slots your toaster has but it could be possible to whip up a few sandwiches at once.

I have this and it makes perfection cooked breakfast sandwiches every time with little to no mess. ... As mentioned already, the cheese goes on the bun before the meat. If using square cheese slices. Just fold and tear into 4 pieces and place overlapping within the bottom bun. Also, found scrambling the egg in a little pour cup works best. Pour in slowly from the middle and it won’t leak. Being more dense with the yoke blended it doesn’t leak out like the whites do. Also, this thing makes awesome taco bowls using street taco sized tortillas 👍

James, after the first one, my initial thought was to just put the cheese on AFTER you remove the sandwich from the machine. I think you'd have that perfect melty consistency in about 30-45 seconds since the rest of the sandwich is piping hot. But I don't have one of these so I may be talking out of my hind quarters. Great review! I think I may order one of these.

It's an interesting idea but I think that it's much less messy and less to clean if you just use a pan. American cheese melts in about 10 seconds so adding it in the end is a good idea. If you go to any Salvation Army or Goodwill, you will see at least two or three of those on the shelf.

I have the original sandwich maker which doesn’t have the built in timer. I think this is a great product and I really like it! If you cook your sandwich for 4 minutes it’ll still be good, and the bottom won’t get burned. I’ve noticed that you will get some egg spillage but it’s not a big deal to me. I also add the cheese once I remove the sandwich from the machine - once the sandwich is cool enough to eat, the cheese has the right amount of melty-ness! Also, for better results don’t use the individual wrapped cheese. Use the higher quality ones like from Sargento or Tillamook or from the deli counter.

Glad you did this review. I have considered one of these before, but after seeing how much effort you had to go through and uncertainty, I think I’d rather cook my own breakfast samich according to my own tastes and standards. Sure, it might be quicker to a degree, but maybe one day I want the egg softer, or less cheese meltage, less crispier muffin, biscuit or whatever bread. It’s just easier in the long run to cook your own samich. I’ll say that the device is neat, if I had one I’d use it from time to time when in a rush, but mostly, I’d make the time to cook a breakfast, or whatever samich to my liking supervised by myself. Keep up the good work, sir. Always look forward to your videos.

I have the dual maker. Never had a problem with egg running out the sides. But I don't make sandwiches much with it anymore. Nowadays I use it to easily cook just the eggs. I can cook 4 eggs at a time with it in under 4 minutes (I set the timer for 3.5). Just put the egg where the bottom piece of bread would normally go. I let all the eggs cool, pack them in the fridge and snack on them just like a hard boiled egg. No need to peel hard boiled eggs.

I don't need 2 dishes to clean when I cook up my one egg... I have this camp pot/pan The pan is also the top for the pot. But the pan is small enough to cook that one egg the right size circular shape. I love it! And that way I use only one item to make the egg that way. Plus I rarely ever use the electric oven/stove to cook my food. I rent a space at the parents. They have the oven/stove which I can use, but I actually cook in my space with a Butane camp stove or my mini-burner on isobutane canister. In the summer I will also cook outdoors on the campfire. The lawn is big and surrounded by forest where there is a good camp setup for campfire, tenting, chilling in nature.

You should try letting the egg cook before you put the top muffin on if you haven't already (i usually pre toast the muffin). Another reason could be that the piece that slides to drop the egg needs to be adjusted some. It has to be just right, or it always leaks.
