Great tips. We're planning our first trip to the BVIS, next December. I'm glad to hear the provisioning tip. Don't want to waste. See ya down there, perhaps.👋🏼👍🏼
We stayed 5 days at Oil Nut Bay in April (after 5 days on charter with Moorings). Its the nicest place I've ever been maybe in my life. Stunning property. Some minor things like Nova isn't open 7 days a week (it should be) that they will get fixed, but in 5 years its going to be one of the best resorts in the entire Caribbean. Thanks for another great video.
Great tips! Heading to the BVI's for two weeks, at the end of Nov. can't wait! Navionics is part of Garmin. 🤙🏼
Alan, thank you for continuing to do this series. You have inspired my wife and I to begin planning our first BVI vacation. I’ve been working with Tammie at MarineMax. I told her your videos brought me to MarineMax. She’s obviously a Wandering Hillbilly fan :-). Thank you again for your inspiration.

This makes me soooo happy. Tammy is the best! Enjoy and have a wonderful trip! And thanks for watching!!
Hi Alan! Love your series it has inspired us to book our first trip to BVI! So excited! What are your thoughts on trip insurance? Do you recommend any companies or types of insurance? Also have you ever been to BVI’s over Christmas break? Is that a good time to be down there? Thanks!
Great video! Can't wait to hear all about Charleston. My wife and I love Savanna and are planning a trip to Charleston in a couple months. So much great history and good people down in that region. Have a blast!

Charleston is amazing...you can spend a week or more there and still see it all. Highly recommend. thanks for watching.
Oh my heck, I absolutely NEED a wandering hillbilly T-shirt…
Love the channel. Booked our first barefoot charter for July 2023. Question about mid trip provisions and gas. Do you have to refuel during your 7 day trip (we are using your 7 day itinerary) and is it easy to get provisions mid trip?
Nicely done Mr. Carter! Always look forward to your videos and really enjoy these since we are planning a charter in May of '23. I learn something every time you post one of these informative videos. BTW, you are looking really healthy, good job. Enjoy your Georgia trip! Taking the next step in the v-blog KZread world. That should be interesting and looking forward to owning a TWH coffee mug. Thanks so much for the kind words and thanks for watching! Merch coming soon!
I'm enjoying your videos - thanks very much for putting them together. It's been a long time since I've chartered in the BVI but planning another trip. I'm sure you've probably answered this already but how much cash do you need to bring to cover all the restaurants and bars or, put another way, how many places take credit cards? That's my biggest unknown. Thanks!
Thank you for taking the time to answer….very helpful, and funny!! New boat name “Hurricane Hider”!?!

love your vids! Question - ive nver been to the carribean and dont love boating but i want to go stay at a nice resort and boat around to a few different islands. whats the best way to do this? we heard harbor island was very nice so thought about staying there and chartering something me and the wife to different islands for 5-7 days. whats is best way to find a boat?
Alan, My wife and I were planning to take her brother, our sister-in-law, and another couple on a group charter of 5 or 6 boats led by a very experienced Marine Max broker from Wisconsin. One of our six people had a rather serious conflict and we dropped out of the group. Just today I booked a weeklong charter on a 443 for the end of February 2023 and I plan on using your Ultimate 7-Day itinerary almost exactly as is. We do love the idea of restaurants basically every evening and I appreciate your talking about your favorites and why they are your favorites. This will be my first time ever on a catamaran whether as a skipper or guest. I do have some experience with boats. I took a Nordhavn 55 from Dana Point, CA to and through the Caribbean, the entire east coast of the US, through the Gulf of St. Lawrence, down the Seaway, and through each and every Great Lake on a 63-day, 24/7 voyage with only a few stops for crew changes. So, can you tell me anything about the Ultimate 7-Day Itinerary you might change now that perhaps the BVI is at a better stage in post-hurricane recovery? Thank you very much. Love your stuff. By the way, I get to Hilton Head at least a couple of times a year and would love to meet you sometime in Savannah or wherever.

Great to hear that you've set this up. You will have the trip of a lifetime!! seriously. I think the 7 day works well...just simply adjust for weather, if need be. Get to Anegada and White Bay (soggy dollar bar) early in the morning. You'll wanna spend as much time as possible on that island. White Bay gets crowded by noon...claim your spot. I would also consider Hog Heaven restaurant on Virgin Gorda the night you're in the North Sound. Also, Saba Rock is open and is AMAZING. As is The Bitter End. thanks for watching!
We have been looking at water taxi's for our power cat trip in Feb '23 inspired by your adventures and videos. I checked two places and the fare for round trip plus immigttion is around $2600 total for 4 of us. This includes taxi from the ST Thomas airport to Red Hook for the water taxi, Immigration at Sopers and transport over to Nanny Cay. When the charter is done we do the reverse. You menytioned $600 to $1000 does the above fares seem correct or are there other options I did not find. We checked Island Time and Dolphin water taxi. Any thouhts would be appreciated. On a funny note we are going to St Pete this weekend to look at a 36 Aquila to start our adventure... your fault I might add. Can't wait for the merch you mentoned.

Wow. That’s really pricey. It was 1200 for 6 of us back in January. I can only guess that demand is ultra high….and gas prices too…and it’s been driven up. Seems crazy high. Good luck with the 36!!! It’s a great ride and thanks for watching!!!! Means a lot
Good Afternoon Alan, hope all is well! Question, and maybe something you could do a quick video on (when your not doing the 1,000 other things you have on your schedule). Captaining a barefoot charter in the BVI. We are headed out in October of this year for 8 days, we took your advice and did the sleep aboard with MarineMax, and have chartered the Aquila 44 for the 3 couples going. All of us have spent time on boats (never a catamaran), even living on a 32 foot for almost a year. What advise would you give for someone going to the BVI for the first time and taking on the role of skipper for the week. Do's and Don'ts, things to be aware of, operating the boat and any recommendations you might have as a seasoned captain in the area on catamarans. I really apricate your insight, and really enjoy the videos!! Jeff De Oppresso Liber

He all ready has done SEVERAL videos like your asking about. Just look in his archives. You’ll spend Days looking at them.
Do you plan on taking your boat to the BVI? That would make a great video of the trip.
Any clue on if they are allowing day charters from USVI’s again? (I heard yes?!?) We go in December and have yet to be able to get to Soggy. From your videos it seems like not a spot to miss! Thank you

Hey! I have a motor cat that I’m considering trading in for an Aquila like yours. However, I would like to know your feedback about navigation in Caribbean waters. Normally these waters are rough. Have you ever recorded any experience sailing in a strong sea with your Aquila? ✌️
Hey Alan I have a question, if you would be so kind. What’s the deal with tipping in the BVI? I come from a country where tipping is not particularly common (compared to the US) so I am not tuned into the nuances of tipping etiquette. So who do I tip, and how much? The rubbish / ice guys? The mooring fee collectors? The water taxis? Staff in the charter company? Do I need to bring a ball of cash with me for tips? I’ve been looking online and haven’t gotten much info. I don’t want to offend anyone, but its a minefield! THANK YOU in advance! I’ve been watching loads of your videos in advance of my first BVI trip in November, which I am vibrating with excitement about! They’re very helpful videos, especially the FAQs and sample itinerary. Keep 'em coming!

First off, thanks for watching!!! Means a lot. I only tip at restaurants and docks. Fueling dock, marina where you start and end, and any other slip or marina you may stop at. I’ve never tipped the ice and garbage guys but doesn’t mean you can’t…do whatever u want! I definitely did not tip the water taxi guy since the trip already cost me 1200 bucks! Lol. Those taxis are getting really expensive now because of fuel prices and demand. Have a wonderful trip and be safe!!!

@@thewanderinghillbilly Many thanks - much appreciated. Enjoy your upcoming trip.
You bought the exact power catamaran I have been investigating . The price point for size seems to be well worth it . Could you tell me the lead tome between ordering and delivery ? I’ve numerous videos by Aquila and they’re all talking about 12-18 months . Is that about correct ? Great looking boat !
