Repairing a Buzzing or Vibrating Transfomer Casing
I have a couple of very simular videos, this was just another one that I thought I would try some This resin has an operating temperature of up to 82c so should be fine for this transfomer.

Thank you so much for this. I had a studio monitor start to hum anoyingly. But in my case there was a shield around the transformer that was the cause rather than the transformer it's self.

Adding rubber washers also helps. Assembling from the top down = Add a rubber washer to the bolt. Push the bolt through the transformer mounting tang hole. Add another rubber washer to the bolt, below the transformer mounting tang. Push the bolt through the case hole. Add a locking nut. So, you end up with two rubber washers sandwiching the transformer mounting tang. The first washer prevents rattling noises being passed by the head of the bolt. Obviously, you will need longer bolts. If your transformer bolts firstly go through the bottom of the case (meaning their heads are underneath the case,) reverse the order of assembly.

My philips d8614 boombox had a buzzing transformer and the left channel kept going off so i opened it up hoping to spot a dodgy capacitor or something but nope , it was way more complex than i had bargained for,a bit of a chinese jigsaw puzzle so now its in the shed with its intestines hanging out . Shame really because i was very fond of that player ,it had a lovely sound and the radio sounded great too . If i had of known this glue trick i would of tried it . Thanks michael

Thats a shame, not always easy to find a repacement boombox once you have a good one. I did have quite a few in the pass. lots of the old Sharp ones. some buzzing transformers can be quite loud

Thank you. I have a Yamaha receiver making an awful amount of buzz and I will try this out and see if it improves.

Good morning Michael, what type of resin did you use? can you tell me the brand? Is it the UHU brand that you use in other videos? Thank you very much and congratulations for your videos!!

Hi, In this video I use the Gorilla Epoxy resin as shown and seems to work very well, I have done a few others using UHU as shown in the video here kzread.info/dash/bejne/hpZmu9SQZ5TaY84.html , and that has stood the test of time to. I think if its the metal outer case that is causing the buzzing then any of these two will do. But if its the fins that are causing the buzz then I suggest varnish for them as it will get inbetween the fins and the finish of the metal casing with resin or UHU glue.

Hi Michael I'm hoping to try this on a few Rega wallworts like this one 👇 and it's brand new replacement does the same. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z52f06mvfqrRY7A.html That's four Rega power supplies I have that buzz! I've given up on this crap from Rega and use Linear power supplies now, but will give it a try for fun! 😉 Jim 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🙂

Hi Jim. Yes I can hear it, it could be just the transformer resonating with the thin plastic case, so if you do manage to get it open a few sticky pads on top of transformer that pushes against the top might stop that. Annoying big name brands using cheap power supplies, when just a few quid more would get a good one.

@@MichaelYates I think you may be correct about the plastic case, as I also wrote this in the comments of my video at the time ... Listened to my Rega A2D phono stage yesterday just to refresh my memory about its sound, all was fine, just plugged in its wallwort power supply and it's buzzing as loudly or louder than the one in this video. Only difference from yesterday was it was unplugged after listening then plugged in this morning! Very strange and very, very annoying.
