Buying Roman Gold - Huge Mistake or Bucket List Win
Buying Roman gold coins. I bought an ancient gold coin so you don't have to. If you thought premiums on modern gold coins are bad, this will be great proof that it can always get worse. I picked up a gold aureus from the Roman Empire. This Marcus Aurelius aureus was minted under Antoninus Pius in 152 AD. If you're interested in ancient coins or if you're looking for someone to make fun of, check it out.

A Golden coin from the Roman Golden age, spectacular! And its a really interesting piece, as you mentioned, that shows us the famous philosopher emperor before he was emperor, without his famous beard. However, he was already considered by many to display the qualities of a good emperor, with some sources citing "He was a young man, but displayed a serious and composed attitude that greatly dignified him."

I can see both sides to grading , and have started grading myself ... you can see a PF70 holds a lot more value ... but also , it's nice to hold the yellow stuff as well ... can't wait to see the case you've got for it .. and the hammer to set it free ... You also have to remember capsules/slabs are a modern thing ... a lot of older collections are still in wooden display cabinets ...

I have what people would say quit a few of bullion gold coins, but I would really like a Roman gold coin. I just cannot justify buying one at this stage of my life, but if I was younger and have the money I have now I would buy one. I applaud you for buying a coin you really wanted I think I know the feeling of having a coin that was in use during the times you speak of it makes your mind wonder. Enjoy 2 is 1
I know some people in the stacking community don't like used coins. I'm not one of them though. I find former circulation coins interesting and in many cases beautiful or at least interesting. Wow man that one and the silver owl are really cool I have to give you props on that in my personal opinion that's more like prestige precious metals than it is just your everyday common precious metal of gold and silver. You know man we are funny creatures we will put value on something so tiny and small and never think that the price of it will ever go so high what we set it for. And I'll honestly I think that's just an ego we settle for and I think if we do that it shows the flaw of our thinking in what we value. I say this cuz I remember watching salivate metal video on the gold shell coins that was stolen from a museum that was worth so much money. And now it's all gone probably in the hands of some private owner who is a criminal some kind or it's melted and now sold as bars on the black market. I mention this because I think of Marcus Aurelius and all the ancestors in our past who probably think we are a bit crazy for spending so much for a little amount of gold. I think it might be a sign of the times of our country coming to a financial end. Honestly I think it's a prestige to have such precious metal as a luxury if whatever reason you get a lot more of those particular coins I hope you sell it to a museum and get your money's worth. That being said I want to say thank you for your time and sharing with us this video it makes me think about precious metals in a way that might be more of a warning not to get too carried away but to be practical. Well if you die you can always have it buried with you lol.😏🪙⚰️🪦

This Roman purchases is better than just buying a buffalo or eagle as it’s something you really wanted. Did you pay a perceived crazy premium over spot for less than 7 g of gold? The answer is :Maybe You’ll never know if it was a “good buy” or a a “bad buy” till the time you sell something. But in the meantime you got your hands on a true piece of history and are able to appreciate / enjoy all your hard work it took to make this purchase possible, and that is never a bad idea.

Very nice! I've always had a penchant for Roman coins and being a sad case I spend many hours hunting in the freezing cold and rain for them in my local area with my metal detector, so far I've only found Roman silver but one day. .. I some what follow the prices of historical coins and although they will always hold a certain value there seems to be times when certain era coins are very en vogue and command great proces and then its onto another era, almost like fashion trends. Maybe these trends are set by certain large coin collectors popping their head above the parapit spending big money and getting everyone else going I'm just not sure. I guess 3k-ish years of coins can't all be the most desirable all at once.
