Looks like a sweet ride I think you did fine. Not quite sure if you mentioned this but on these old cars look underneath them by that I mean check the undercarriage. Most people won't or can't crawl underneath one properly if possible put them up on a rack nothing tells the story more than seeing the underside of a car. Not only does it tell the condition but also a safety thing if frame rails are rotted out or covered I've seen some bondoed up then undercoated the car can be a death trap.

I love the color! I had a 66 Impala many years ago. It was painted white, but no air conditioning. Still, you could open the floor vents and the triangle vents - and still hear the radio! 😀. I loved the steering and easy transmission- and it started in SD winters too! 😀. Plus, the 283 motor was reliable and easy to work on. Congratulations on your cool find man!

I had a 66 Impala years ago while in the service. The worse thing about a 66 and a 65 is the area beneath the front air vent panel in front of the windshield, that area is very prone to corrosion. The first area I would look at and use an extended small magnet between the grills down to the splash pan to test for steel. One can use it also around quarter panels.

Sweet ride, a keeper. The only negative is that it isn't a '65! It's all about those tail lights for me.
