The black lacquer Dumont is exceptionally beautiful. It's so typical of Cartier to not offer one of their best Santos models as a regular edition. They are among the most frustrating brands in the watch game. So much potential wasted that they want to keep limited and special editions of any of their watches worth buying.

Was at Dubai Mall a couple of weeks ago but went to the Omega store. Great team in there. Both of the big malls there are dangerous for watch-lovers.

Get the Dumont….you will be glad you did even though it is a quartz …no having to keep it in a watch winder…or constantly resetting it although there is no date! You decide.

I own the Large Dumont in 18k rose gold and I absolutely love it! Would have cool if they would have fitted it with the manual 430 movement, but for me this watch is anyway about the design. Have a friend who owns the 18k Santos medium with strap and bracelet. I would still choose the Dumont every day! Much more refined.

I got mine two weeks ago, they told me it is the last one in europe but not if its discontinued, so have you more infos about that? It is a great watch and I also wanted the rose gold one at first, but the black one felt more special with the laquer and manual wound movement

I like the black lacquered model he bought and the price is also OK. Why would Cartier discontinue it if it’s so popular or was so popular ? The large gold Santos is also nice but $21,000 Is way overpriced . I can buy a new gold Zenith El Primero Chronograph 42 mm from a grey market dealer in the US for about $10,000 which is less than half price !

Good thing you went with this watch. I tried one in The Galleria AUH Cartier boutique when an SA was able to source one however your point is right that even thought it is the Large version, it was quite small on my wrist and for my liking. Nonetheless, it looks great. If it was a bit larger, I would definitely would have gotten it.

That Santos Dumont is a winner. I myself is going back and forth on Santos de Cartier medium in classic white or the colored dial.

I have the Santos in steel with navy strap. Given that Cartier is a jewelry brand, I felt the quartz movement was acceptable even though I now prefer automatic movements. Your friend's watch is really beautiful.

I think paying very large sums for a quartz movement watch albeit cased in gold is not the way. It's a relatively small and cheap watch but if you want quartz consider the tank solarbeat. I believe Cartier have designed it to run for sixteen years without service,

Cartier makes watch designs that you mainly look at for the beauty and not time. Speaking from experience. Even thought my Santos gains 10 seconds per day lol (need to have it checked out)

Both Cartier’s are beautiful…I like them about the same aesthetically…so the automatic movement would break the tie…after what quartz did to the automatic industry…personally i would never spend real money on a quartz watch. Leave those for the ladies
