It is obvious to me the reason why people are buying these homes is because the American dream of owning a real big home is becoming unattainable. The prices of houses are going up and incomes are not keeping up with inflation. People will resort to what they can afford

The home building and real estate industries are now a racket. People are homeless and working two or three jobs. I completely understand the need for building regulations just to protect the consumer, but so many of them now are dictated by home building lobbyists, and HVAC industry lobbyists. You should be able to buy a piece of land and have a house of your choosing without having to jump through all the regulatory hoops and permitting fees and etc.. When you’re building a home of your own, you shouldn’t have to pay the same kind of fees, that commercial builders pay. It should be free of fees and the city should just get their money from their portion of your property taxes. You see the price of land go down and become affordable for normal people again if that happened because the builders they just want to gouge for as many dollars is they possibly can they’re not in the business of making homes for people there in the business of making money off of wood and gypsum board

@@johnmackey3937 I don't think the people that are utilizing the sheds as affordable housing alternatives are using inspectors. I think it would be pretty cool to get a couple of these and have a nice wrap around porch on some property by a lake. It would be great for a vacation cabin.

Problem with the Tiny Homes is alot of citys have banned them. I think they are a great idea. I have seen some really nice ones.

Last yr, my son's friend bought this and we wired it for him in a weekend! Elec hot water tank went under the stair landing. Elec Panel was above that with elec service meter on the N end of the building. Circuits went up through upper and lower stair well walls. Toilet, shower, was under stairs, 30" door on rt end. Kitchen cabinets from stair to bathroom door. Wood stove in S. back corner of liv room. Mini/split AC N end, next to elec service. Upstairs big bedroom and sleeper/sofa down stairs for company. Extending floor over landing becomes floor of upstairs closet,

Buy two and knock it into one and you’ve got a palace.

Tiny home is kinda a smart ideas to save money, after buying it , you are free from mortgage forever lol

Same for mobile homes. Need a basement or shelter very close by. Plus a little plumbing, running water and electricity and when you get a freeze like last year in Texas you will need not just insulation but a good heat source. Pretty soon the $12K is looking more like $40K+

I saw a story where this guy built a concrete hut outside of his trailer/manufactured home and people gave him grief over it...making fun of him. Well, the tornado came eventually and he got in there and all those people who made fun of him.... Killed. He said he had a premonition that he needed to build something like that. Good for him, he saved his own neck.

In my opinion, tiny homes aka modular houses are the best option to purchase a cheap property and don’t have to worry about forking over a 7-8 figures for a house that barely exists.

In my state, the house has to be 1000 square feet to be recognized as a home. They don’t allow tiny houses. Sadly.

1. That’s not for your whole state only for some areas. 2. The minimum sqft for a house in most areas of Massachusetts is 150 square feet 3. There’s a difference between personal property and real property, learn it.

They used to sell this model at Home Depot in north Georgia and I've not seen one in years. Also here in western North Carolina where I'm from they've started removing these from sale locations as well. A friend of mine got messed with by a code inspector and was questioned for having a wood craft work shop in his basement where he builds hobby bird houses and was stalked by them watching from across the highway with binoculars. They pulled up in his yard and asked him what he was working on and he replied, "bird houses". It's getting stupid in this country with all these regulations anymore. Now it's illegal to sleep in a vehicle here if you're homeless. And there's no shelters hardly at all other than bigger towns. With houses starting at $250,000 for a 1 bedroom rundown junker and rent ranging from $1,500 to as much as $10,000 in certain areas, yes $10,000 with a minimum wage of $7.25, hows that work out if you're not rich already when you move to a very poor area with a job and housing crisis that keeps getting worse and more populated? It's sickening how greedy this country has become and the fact that our generation and the following ones can't even own a home without selling their soul to the man is not a free country anymore. Then again if they didn't care to steal my ancestors land and turn it into a polluted nightmare of greed and false hope, then it doesn't surprise me.

By the time you get it livable it’s about 50k worth of work anyway… land,insulation,water,electric,plumbing,flooring… that stuff not cheap.. so it comes out to 80k or more anyway..

The house I grew up in was a 5 bedroom 2 1/2 bath, my parents only paid $65k for it back in the late 1980s. It's now worth just over $800k.

People think they're cute. Your need lots of insulation and make a nice pot bella stove to survive the winters in Colorado in that little shed. It's cool n all but....I guess it's way better than being exposed to the elements. Price of lumbar is frigging crazy expensive now, christ. some guy already in LA had taken and made a 2 story right on the sidewalk. it was amazing in the city took it down Right after an artist covered it in aluminum foil.. Very sad!

Some counties do not allow these as "homes". There are certain standards that must be met for them to qualify as residences.😢

After drywalling, insulation, floor installation, adding a bathroom/kitchen appliances, plumbing and electricity and buying the land this is going to sit on You will have spent a pretty penny but Still not as much as it would cost to buy a regular house.

None of these sheds are built to any building code standards in any state. If your state and or local government will allow these units to be lived in then it would be a great idea. Unfortunately, most states and local governments will not allow them since they do not meet building codes.

I saw a tiny 500 sq foot home on 2 acres listed for $349,000 the other day. In a RURAL area of Alabama. I was disgusted.

Be aware of Home Depot tiny homes, absolutely just about everything is extra, including stairs

Even if you own the land, you still need permission to live on it, if the laws are the same in the US, as they are in the UK. My brother has had his own woods, a place which he's turned into a fire wood industry, whilst clearing the spot for his authentic antique gypsy caravan, a place for friends and family to meet up, a Christmas tree farm, rented space for a lady who bred miniature pigs, and some fancy chickens, but he cannot live there. He bought it, when he was still a traveller, for about a thousand pounds, about 30 odd years ago, but, somehow the council always knew if they stayed on it too long.... He now owns a beautiful house by the sea, has his own beach café, and a canal boat. Never stuck for holidays... Good job, when you have 7 children, a wife, grandchild, and innumerable nieces nephews, a brother, and a sister, parents, and a LOT of friends. I actually lived there, for a beautiful summer, when I left my husband, the boys loved it, when it was my week... Now, we have a brother, who lives in Bulgaria, bought a whole farm, for about 27p, but him and his girlfriend, who is very, very handy, have turned it into a fabulous place, with holiday homes for f&f, they currently have four refugees, from the Ukraine 🇺🇦 x Yeah, I'm sure you could live on it, now, but check the small print...

$13 grand stripped. To make it livable, probably another $25,000. Plus those windows will rot after the first winter.

Just a shed. I would pay 20k for one fully set up with bath, kitchen, electric connections, etc.

In Canada, small condos with around as much space is in that tiny home can cost anywhere upwards of $230k-$250k CAD. Meanwhile America, home depot is literally selling these for $20k and to have it constructed included in the price. THIS should be a real option. It's a smaller footprint and people could actually buy these and live in them. It makes me sad that where I live, I am either going to have to live in an apartment or condo because of the cost of living. Buying land here would not be justifiable to build one of these.

These are becoming more and more popular. With the average price being $200 per sq ft to build a home in my state, I can see why people would consider something like this.

The median home price in 1960 was $11,900.

Converting a top shelf shed into a legit home, would be temporary until a tornado or hurricane passages by even a flooding ... but better then nothing ... However, spending $22K and another $22K or more to convert, like electric wiring, plumbing. Including, $22K or more for a plot of land needs considering ...

That would only be possible if the state you live in allows you to have one in their state so unless a person is willing to fight for there rights total take on the government and get them to change the laws that state has😊

I'd be interested to see if this actually is cheaper than a completed house. With this one starting at around 20k, you still need insulation, drywall, plumbing, electrical, bathroom, kitchen, walls, closets, flooring, trim, paint, finishes.... This one is probably 70-90k by the time you are done.

Don't forget the cost of land-labor.

They probably have to build it on site, I would think, because the tallest thing you can pull on a public road can't be over '13 6". That is way taller. You can get a permit for some tall loads, but even then, it's not much higher than '13 6". That would definitely hit power lines. Especially once it's sitting up on a trailer. Which it would be better to build it on site anyway. Great video man👍

A friend of ours son bought 1 of these exact same model. after it was purchased and permits was got he has $178.000 invested in it. Zoning required a foundation. Check your building codes. You can't put these just anywhere as this man said ‼️💯‼️ These buildings are just a shell. Anyhow our friends home is small but beautiful. Check your TWP building codes first ‼️ Very important ‼️ You may be stunned at requirements and costly for Tiny homes ‼️‼️‼️

Cool people dont want home prices to go down thats why people dont want them sold. Id pay 3x for 13x as big put 25k into in and be good.

Tiny homes are a dime a dozen, Problem is you can't find a legal place to plant them. There are zoning laws and ordinances against them everywhere. You have to own a real home and apply for an auxillary building permit. Then it's OK but they can't be a complete home, Bathroom, but no kitchen.

In Florida I was reading comments someone bought one and the power company said the can’t put meter for electricity unless you get it and run solar power and extension cords the city or/and county will give you a hard time

Yeah I think this makes more sense to plop this down in your land somewhere rather than a trailer at a trailer park.

I’m guessing it would be a lot easier to live in one of these in Texas. CA is insanely expensive! It would not be possible for a working stiff to purchase land or rent space to live in one of these.

Counties hate tiny homes, because the property tax would be low..

A few years ago I went to look at this exact one with the idea of doing something similar... not quite a tiny home, buy more like a big ass utility closet.
