A window into the past. This was thought to be a lost film, just very recently found. But at the time, these songs were the bees knees, the technicolor state of the art, and top singers like Annette Hanshaw were covering these songs and selling tons of them. And today so many people don't even recognize how great this is or even know who these people are. Now think of the garbage being spewed out today, the "top" stars, and wonder where THEY will be in 90 years...

Jack Haley was already a polished singer and dancer on the stage before this, but most will remember his 1939 classic performance as the Tin Man in "The Wizard of Oz". The song is truly a standard, and Jack knows when to keep his hands to himself.

I wouldn’t have know he was the tin man either but I can certainly see it now! I love to imagine living in this era. I had no idea how many people sang this song or how old it was.

Wow! I didn't know this film survives. I love these two and especially the dancing exit, so "Broadwayish" and typical of many numbers in the first talkie period. Thanks for posting!

I didn't realise it was first sung as a duet, but that makes sense: the line "wear your flannel underwear when you climb a tree" is meant to be addressed to a woman.
