CLIP DESCRIPTION:
To escape their relentless pursuers, Butch (Paul Newman) and Sundance (Robert Redford) take a leap of faith.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Opening with a silent "movie" of Butch Cassidy's Hole in the Wall Gang, George Roy Hill's comically elegiac Western chronicles the mostly true tale of the outlaws' last months. Witty pals Butch (Paul Newman) and Sundance (Robert Redford) join the Gang in successfully robbing yet another train with their trademark non-lethal style. After the pair rests at the home of Sundance's schoolmarm girlfriend, Etta (Katharine Ross), the Gang robs the same train, but this time, the railroad boss has hired the best trackers in the business to foil the crime. After being tailed over rocks and a river gorge by guys that they can barely identify save for a white hat, Butch and Sundance decide that maybe it's time to try their luck in Bolivia. Taking Etta with them, they live high on ill-gotten Bolivian gains, but Etta leaves after their white-hatted nemesis portentously arrives. Their luck running out, Butch and Sundance are soon holed up in a barn surrounded by scores of Bolivian soldiers who are waiting for the pair to make one last run for it.

To Degree 7 :You're right on that count.Sadly Mr.Newman was in the early stages of cancer that took his life & the rigid physical requirements to do the film was too much for him to overcome. It would've been a nice send off film for the two legends also for George Roy Hill but he had passed on by that time.I saw the film & I thought it was pretty good.Nick Nolte was pretty good too,but it was pretty tough to follow an acting legend in Paul Newman.

There was a somewhat ironic carefree passion for films and tv shows back then. Sure even then it was a business so the main goal was to make money but the filmmakers, actors and everyone else involved were genuinely passionate when they had a great script to work with so there was just more effort put into the work. Not to say there wasn't crappy work then too but the true classics stood out more.

I love this scene in particular because once butch says the fall will probably kill ya! Butch and Sundance don’t say another word and Sundance has to psych himself up and he does and goes ohhhhh and that’s all butch needed to hear hahah great chemistry these two cowboys were total Bro’s! 😀😂👍

I faced a very difficult decision about 15 years ago, whether to leave a job I'd had for 37 years by taking voluntary redundancy or staying, but I had no idea what lay ahead either way. I call this moment in my life my "Butch Cassidy moment" as by jumping (leaving the job) I had *no* idea what was ahead of (or below) me. I jumped & trusted I'd land in that river, uninjured (which I did!). A wonderful scene by 2 amazing actors & it's my favourite film of all time. Great to see it again.

The scene of Butch and Sundance above the river was filmed north of Durango, Colorado, near Baker Bridge. The actors leapt off a cliff face onto a mattress....but the scene of the two stuntmen falling into the river a moment later was filmed in California.

Everything I have read, or heard, of the esteem the two had for each other, seems heartfelt,truthfull,@honest. Robert Redford has always talked very well of his collaboration, and work with Newman. If I'm correct they did just the two films together. As I said two Great actors. RIP Paul, and may you Robert Redford, continue to be healthy, for many years to come. Thanks may God bless.🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
