This body image centered episode delves into the distinctions between body positivity and body neutrality, offering a nuanced exploration of how individuals can relate to their bodies beyond conventional narratives of self-love.
The conversation begins by distinguishing body positivity from body neutrality. Originally, body positivity emerged from the fat activist movements of the 1960s, aiming to empower marginalized bodies, especially those of fat, Black women, and aligning with LGBTQ rights. In contrast, body neutrality is presented as a more muted, less emotionally charged approach, appealing to those who may find the ra-ra! enthusiasm of body positivity unreachable.
Stef, who hosts a Body Neutrality for Body Image Workshop, discusses the personal significance of body neutrality as a middle ground where you can acknowledge your actual feelings about your body-whether positive or negative-without allowing those feelings to dictate your self-worth or mood.
This epidosde emphasizes that adopting a body neutral stance is not an instant change but a gradual process of shifting one’s value system and managing emotional responses.

By the way, an episode on cravings as part of harms disbalance and PMS would be appreciated (if not recorded yet). Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us❤

IT IS ACCEPTANCE ! GOD GRANTED ME THE PERFECT VIDEO TO HEAR ON MY WALK THIS MORNING!! Perhaps now I won’t let my thoughts of my weight and body shape determine my feelings for the day. Oh and the number on the scale that measures how I’m eating. Thanks ladies

My feeling is that men (not all, but most) are body neutral because they get their social status from work/achievement, and not how they look. For women, its terrifying to let go as we are the "objects" and so we feel our value lies in how our bodies look.

I think neutrality and acceptance can also be a type of love, it’s just not a hype of love

Another comment FREEDOM! For me to NOT allow my initial thought of what I ate or what the scale says to determine my mood which determines how I act towards others. FREEDOM, FREEDOM!

Gotch it! Oh finally. Reason I’ve been activated recently (in addition to higher cravings due to the PMS) is judgmental trait of mine having so much of a room to go on and on and on. Things at work are such a mess and processes /audit are just not being there turn this “me” in a moment and then it’s a trigger point to eat this feeling and cover up with a food. Insights from others are yet so important to let us at times find it to ourselves (maybe due to …well weaker connection to ourselves). Thanks!

Lots is going on in my mind now reflecting on your discussion. Yet what I see , I guess I see now, is that for me binge eating became a mechanism to deal with emotions/feelings (in addition to that part which I still comes from being anorexic and then bulimic). Anyhow, as a way to deal with emotions food is a pattern i follow whenever experiencing that particular strong feeling my personality is in a way stands on - judgmental, assessing yourself/situation /others vs ideal self /ideal scenario. And as this feeling comes in the pattern is turned on. Even if it’s judging not of yourself …. 🎉 thanks !
