Busy Life from a Frozen Pond

Ғылым және технология

Hello everyone! This is from a sample I collected the other day. It is from a frozen pond and also one of the richest samples I checked under the microscope. You can see the description of my previous video to read how I collected the sample.
.
In this video, there are many different species of rotifers. Rotifers are micro-animals at the size of single-celled organisms. They have brains, muscles, digestive system... And they are bullied by the single-celled organisms all the time. I find them kinda funny when they swim, they look so clumsy. 😂
.
Can you see the long, horn shape one? That's a species of Stentor, a unicellular organism. All the others in the video are rotifers. Stentors can be quite big but this one is not big at all! Stentors take this form to filter water for food, you can see the hair-like structures beating, they are called cilia and their beating creates a current that brings the food into the Stentor's mouth. I will identify the species later on because I have so many of them in my new samples. 🤤.
.
I just watched the last episode of the tv-series "The Office" and I am quite sentimental now. 😭 If you haven't seen it, just watched it. It's so good. I want to name a water bear after Dwight ❤️.
.
Thank you for watching and reading, especially for reading! 😂

If you’re just getting water samples and can’t see any specs of algae or dirt or anything there’s probably not gonna be much in it, next time try to find water that looks dirty or just get a tiny piece of algae and you’ll have plenty of microbes to look at.

I just found your channel and I'm absolutely fascinated. Do you know of any other channels that do microbiology info and microscopic filming that's you'd recommend? I didn't even know I wanted this until I found it, but it's so calm and satisfying.

man you v gone ur whole life without watching the office until recently, kinda lucky, i have seen that show literally over 20 times. you know when you watch the office the second time, your opinions change about some of the characters, you might end up hating the ones you liked and liked the ones you hated it's an amazing show, one of a kind, also if you want a similar show try arrested development
