‘Buster’s Mal Heart’ Star Rami Malek on Whether Love and Freedom Can Coexist

“Buster’s Mal Heart” is about a man divided between wanting love and freedom at the same time, and star Rami Malek questions whether those two things can “coexist in equilibrium.”
“I’m drawn to these complicated characters,” the “Mr. Robot” actor told TheWrap during an interview at the Toronto International Film Festival.
“I’m in my mid-30s going through these existential questions about who I am and what I’m doing here and if I’m supposed to be fulfilling some type of destiny … I saw this guy who had a family and had this idea of what it was to love that family and give them everything but also wanted a sense of freedom. The question arose in the script - if those things could coexist in equilibrium, if you could have something as fierce as love and freedom at the same time.”
Writer and director Sarah Adina Smith fed off Malek’s thoughts during the interview, posing the question, “is it a paradox where one must always give way to the other?”

Rami looks at everyone like he’s in love with them. It’s part of his charm. He’s very present with whoever he’s talking to and really listens and pays attention. It’s intoxicating.

I do but depends on what happened in your twenties . I had 5 kids by 30 + 6th at 31 . Single parent . How many times I thought about driving off . Simpler life. I swap my house for a country house in the middle of nowhere . Peace from very tight enclosed houses on tiny estates . No privacy . By 40 my kids will 20 , 18 , 17 , 16 , 15 & 10 . Need to find a new career/ career path as been out too long . Going back to college (As my oldest attend college ) .

he just woke up from the dream. the moment he opens his eyes on the beach with his family is real, since he wanted to make a vacation with them. everything happening before was in his head

Thank him for making her realize that she should stop and paying attention to the interviewer! It’s a bit annoying and disrespectful doing this in an interview. Btw the way he looked at her… I fucking died🤪
