Training grounds + ashnod's altar let us take the entire library, and when there are no cards left, we sack 2 tokens in 4 mana, put 2 talismans and an oracle from them

If you make 100 tokens it’s only 1 card. It’s not for each token is whenever one or more happens. So not super busted

@@builtra No, but it's still pretty insane lol. Especially since the card then has "pay 6 for 2 tokens" right there on it, meaning its just... pay mana to draw whenever you have that mana. (Not too hard in commander, which is what I play.)

I really want this for my Tivit EDH deck, he’s fantastic

You are not. I was absent from the hobby for a while but have been playing with friends again recently, and the format is... not quite the same. Things are faster. Maybe its cause weve been playing on table top sim, (one of us lives across the country,) but it's a different experience, not quite as fun anymore.

@@peppermintgal4302 some people believe that's WotC has pushed so many new commander cards in recent sets that it changes the format to a faster pace game. These year we had around 270 new legendary creatures. Cards like dockside extortionist, Jeska's will, smothering tithe all make the game faster. I have a Kalamax deck and every new set there are at least 2 new spell that are better versions of old spells. It's annoying to keep up with.

Glad to see my thought process on how to break him for infinite card draw is something one of the better mtg players thought of too. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go back to being subpar and conceptualizing power level 3 decks because "It looks fun."

Yeah, but... just being able to pay 6 colorless for 2 tokens and a card simply whenever is simply busted even ignoring combos imo lol Of course, I'm only getting back into MtG after a long absence, and things have definitely... gone up in power. Someone's gonna need to make a new commander format that's even slower lol.

Making tokens at independent intervals is not hard to do. "Making 100 tokens at once" is a lame comparison point. Since you are saying, "If we do something broken, it won't draw us our deck." Like, who cares you did something broken. The best comparison point is that you can draw probably an average of 5 cards per turn cycle with this guy. Separate instances of making tokens is not hard to achieve at all and we have cards that actively make tokens per turn cycle just by having people play the game. This is definitely not a "LOL. Hehe. Overhyped" card. It's really good and pushed for commander.

I think I'm going to make tokens of these combo cards in 40k art so it still fits the theme.

Cards that easily abuse any token creation like this boy will increase its power consistently each new set.

Run combo deck, esper has great card draw and tutors. Get infinite mana, dump mana into commander to create tokens. Draw your deck, play win con. Win.

I think the main problem with this card is that it's another blue card that lets you deck yourself, thus opening another avenue for more thassas oracle, Jace, and lab maniac decks to just insta win. If it had been say a Mardy commander, I don't think it would be as powerful as it is in blue

Keep in mind it's one card per effect that makes tokens, not per token. Not to say it's not busted and doesnt go crazy well with lab maniac or any of the other cards you mentioned, though... it's still insane.

Could switch out nadir kraken for simply pitiless plunderer for just infinite draw and just insert generic etb, ltb, draw trigger or lab man to win

It’s powerful no doubt, but I’ve been playing a spicy Esper Creatureless control deck.

If they keep pumping out good esper manders, I'll never be able to pick one. Ima sell off Chatterfang to build this.

Whenever you draw make a token

I’m gonna play him, not sure if I’ll hit the gas all the way on power. I have more fun winning with a ridiculous token blob than a draw my deck Thoracle combo. I’m inclined to just run options for both, but I’m wondering if Marneus coming with so much card draw will make me roll into them a lot.

@@zakbrooks7354 That's the thing, early cards were made before they had as many standards on what is too powerful and what isn't. So its not surprising to see that amidst all the cards that fell behind because of power creep, you have the occasional odd card with some hard to quantify utility effect that's just totally busted now. When I was in high school, I made some dumb mini card game thing that kinda ripped MtG off, and found a lot of effects I came with turned out incredibly busted in actual practice. I mean, I was pretty young, but I should've known "pay 1 resource for a copy of this little 1 power dude" would be completely absurd lol.

How does that infinite work with priority? When in the process can a player respond to you doing that crazy infinite?

This feels more like an Ashnod's Altar problem. Also could be worse... He could've been in some REALLY silly color combination like Simic or Jund.

Doesnt the card draw trigger happen only once though as it says "whenever one or more"? How does that work with Nadir Kraken? Or am I blind and miss something here?

Nadir's triggers are separate so they each trigger Master Tactitian

It can trigger multiples times in one turn. The "whenever one or more" wording doesn't include a "once per turn" style clause, so each new occurrence of one or more Tokens entering the battle field will still cause it to trigger. For Nadir Kraken, I believe the combo is as follows: 1. Get a token in to play, which will trigger Marneus' ability and draw you a card. 2. When you draw the card, Kraken's ability goes on the stack. 3. Before Kraken's ability resolves, use Ashnod's alter to sacrifice the token and 2 generic mana. 4. Use 1 of the 2 generic mana to pay for Kraken's ability. This will make a new token, which puts you back at step one. Continue repeating to draw your deck, make your Kraken incredibly large, and generate 1 generic mana each cycle. Or, make 1 additional token each cycle, if you don't need the extra mana and don't need to sacrifice every token.

If you play secure the waste with an X of 7 and make 7 tokens you will get 1 card. If you play Nevinyrral after 20 creatures die, thus creating 20 tokens, you'll get 1 card. However, if you had a bitterblossom and a dreadhorde invasion in play (you've sac'ed the army on your previous turn) you will draw a card for the fairy and for the zombie. Because they are separate instances of tokens entering.

Korvold and Chulane didn't break commander and neither will this. It's a similar card to those, easy to build around, especially for newer players, but eliciting groans for interminable turns and easy-mode combos. Thus it will be self-regulating, perfectly fine in some playgroups, but not the best choice for playing with strangers. Personally I'd be fine with facing down this deck, I'd just break out Kykar storm and we can see who can durdle the most.

Ontop of having a stupid strong draw ability let’s just throw a win con for infinite mana in there too. Like wtf

Ngl I'd not touch these decks. The warhammer cards feel so out of place in any other deck and vice versa due to the hugely clashing aesthetics and how vastly different in general mtg's mutliverse and warhammer's are. Each of them is a huge game that's been around for decades, and have always been their own thing. While I love having official mtg warhammer cards, I would only like to play them by themselves and against the other wh decks. They're super cool on their own and mixing them with non-wh mtg cards just feels wrong to me (unlike dnd cards).

To be fair, they did make a, uhhh, cyberpunk set. But yeah, I am not particularly happy about this, especially since I've seen a lot of busted cards in this set.

I mean people just need way more single target removal in their decks or else every game of cmdr becomes solitare and allows cards like this one with no protection to run wild

All you really need is infinite mana and you can draw your whole deck with just this card. Everything else is just pure value

How is this op? It’s limited so when you create tokens it only draws one card. You create 100 soldiers at once you get 1 card. I might be missing something but it doesn’t seem that ground breaking to me

I dunno about in formats other than standard, but for commander, its 1) a guaranteed draw engine you'll always get if its your commander, and it can get you chump blockers in desperate situations, and 2) your deck will presumably be full of token gen, so even with this limitation, it's still powerful strong, and theres gonna be a fair number of infinite combos that require only two additional cards. Add in the fact its in black, (so, you'll have a lot of tutor cards available to get combo pieces, plus a lot of control cards,) and in blue, (which is already a strong color --- partly because kf cards like this ---- and counterspells will make sure that once the draw engine has gone on long enough, your opponents likely just don't have the resources to get any answers past your control, since you'll have a lot of lands and cards in hand,) so its very strong. Though I've only returned to the hobby recently, and power creep seems to have produced a lot of strong legendary cards. So I can't say how it measures up to a lot of cards that are out there now. It does *seem* very strong to me, though.

Why is everyone so hung up on 100 tokens for one card? If you can make 100 tokens, you already won... Also, if it worked the way that they keep wanting it to, 100 tokens would lose you the game since it isn't a may.

Why we wanna play this if Tymna and Thrasios exist?

3rd ability is good (or at least alright) *in conjunction* with the 2nd, because even if you lack combo pieces, if you end up in a situation where theres nothing else to do, you can draw, bringing you closer to making a combo. And as a commander, it'll be guaranteed card draw engine in any gane you play. It's definitely not an ability you'd use a lot though, you should absolutely have enough token gen in a deck you're running this in that ensures you have strictly better options.

3rd is just an outlet tbh. This is pretty much a textbook example of having everything in the command zone. Beater, value engine, and an outlet.

I have yet to see a single card from these decks, that isn't sol ring, worth playing. Absolute garbage and easiest skip of my life

It's not so much the problem of weak vs strong cards. It's balanced vs broken, and this card is absolutely broken. There are plenty of cards in the game that are powerful and not broken. This is just gonna be another nightmare "I draw my whole deck and use thoracle to win" commander deck enabler, and I think most people can see that so that's why they are upset

Besides, comparatively speaking to a bunch of other stuff this is tame. Commander is literally an unbalanced format to begin with, this isn't going to move a needle or anything ....
