Buses in Seattle, WA (Volume Eight)

The eighth volume of Buses in Seattle, Washington - in the United States. Volume Nine can be found here: • Buses in Seattle, WA (...
This may just be the volume with the highest amount of variety in the fleet of both King County Metro and Sound Transit - also featuring Community Transit, BoltBus and some privately owned coaches.
For King County Metro we see the old Gillig diesels and trolleys, Breda Trolleys, new Xcelsior trolleys and diesels, as well as the old high-floor artics contrasting sharply with the brand new Xcelsior artics. We also catch a glimpse of the Proterra All-Electric Bus at Eastgate Park & Ride. For Sound Transit we see the old Gillig Phantoms, new Gillig CNGs, Double Deckers, and the LF, LFR and Xcelsior artics. For Community Transit we see the LF artics and both generations of Double Deckers.
Locations: Downtown Seattle - Third Avenue (Lenora, Virginia and Stewart). University District - Fifteenth Avenue & Stevens Way. Chinatown Link Station - King Street. Eastgate Park & Ride.

    I came to watch this because someone told me about those buses that bend in the middle and the seats inside turn with the bus...I found that cool and wanted to find out more for myself.

    7:31 I vaguely remember this noise. It takes me back to the days of looking out of the back window on those old buses as a child. The new ones are so boring, and I wish they’d kept with the blue/green/turquoise paint scheme instead of switching to purple for the trolley buses.

  • @Welwyn22

    @Welwyn22

    4 жыл бұрын

    It's quite similar but significantly cheaper (especially with an ORCA card). King County Metro is the equivalent of the TTC. Sound Transit is like GO Transit, and Community Transit and Pierce Transit are like Mississauga and York Region Transit. You'll get used to it, Seattle is quite a livable city by US standards.

    The bus system in Seattle is obviously amazing, but too bad there's so little intra-city rail infrastructure. One light rail and a 2 mile streetcar line in a city that could easily support a whole subway system is kind of unfortunate.

  • @Welwyn22

    @Welwyn22

    5 жыл бұрын

    Indeed so. There are more streetcar lines under construction - as well as the Link having extensions to the north, south and east within the next five years. A new Link line to West Seattle will follow in the next decade with further extensions north and south as well. It definitely isn't on the scale of Chicago, New York or London though.

  • @biz0829

    @biz0829

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@Welwyn22 That's good to hear, but it's a little annoying how they didn't do that decades ago. I think of Seattle's neighbor Portland which is a smaller city with a much less extensive downtown yet it has 3 streetcar lines and 5 light rail lines that extend far into outreaching suburbs - a sixth line will probably begin construction by the time Seattle starts its extension projects - or Vancouver BC which is also smaller in population yet features a world class autonomous light metro system built in the 80's. Too bad the Seattlites were more concerned with building highways and viaducts at that time.
