Bus Conversion Tiny House Tour | Off Grid Solar School Bus Home
This is our perfectly imperfect tiny house tour. We bought a retired school bus and converted it into a rustic cabin on wheels ourselves.
5 years ago we saw a couple on KZread traveling full time while making money on the road. We were taken by that lifestyle and wanted it for ourselves, so we started making decisions that would hopefully help to one day make that dream a reality.
That's when the skoolie came in. We found videos of people converting school buses into tiny houses. School buses were solid vehicles that were fantastic platforms to build on and were also CHEAP, relatively speaking. For just a couple thousand dollars you could have the foundation for a custom build that your dreams were made of, so that's what we did.
After two years of converting, we ended up with our custom built tiny house on wheels. It's rough around the edges, in some cases literally, but it's ours. It works, and it allows us to travel full time.
All together, we estimate our final costs were ~$23k. We could have done it MUCH cheaper, but we didn't know what we were doing so we made some costly mistakes. Still, our 23k custom built tiny house is MUCH less expensive than new and many used RVs or campers out there, and it has everything we want and nothing we don't.
We drive our Subaru Outback behind the bus. This travel setup helps us go where we want, when we want, and to stay for essentially as long as we want.

May I ask how you showered before you used your bus shower? Did you have a gym membership or something?
Finally, folks that weren't just born with it who were able to execute, thanks for sharing.
his voice totally sounds like the guy from “How it’s made”
This is a blast from the past! My Russian grandparents, fleeing war torn Europe, took the first ticket out and it was to Venezuela. They disembarked, given an allotment of $10.00 per person. My family decided that instead of trying to go small, bought a bus and the property it was "stranded" on, as it had no wheels. That bus became a home for a family of 5 with one on the way. My grandma told stories of using the engine area as her kitchen! Omg! They lived there for over 10 years building up money to emigrate to the USA. I am the first born in the USA. So proud of my family's origin story! 🤗😘🌈
It really doesn't get any better than this. While watching this, I pictured myself eating a bowl of chili with cornbread, while watching nature's animals outside the bus, then later on taking a nap INSIDE the bus, and having so much peace and quiet surrounding me.
You guys did an excellent job on this bus. I love it. BTW... I’m sure you have heard this before, but Zak can totally do voiceover work!

TIFF’s husband should be an announcer for all KZread videos about conversions. For once, they didn’t pull out every darn drawer to tell people what’s in them and who gave them what. Totally awesome video.
Hands down best skoolie tour video out there. Great job guys and what a inspiring video.

Wow - I was about to say the same thing! But you beat me to it...He is an amazing narrator!
The imperfections mean nothing when you’re parked beside a beautiful lake, sipping coffee, while your friends are stuck in offices.
Ok, the man has the most soothing & radio friendly voice. He definitely could do narrative documentaries, voice-overs/voicing for commercials, cartoons, nature programs, etc.-There is no limit to what this man could do with his voice. And he is not too bad looking either-lol.
"Burns clean enough for Hank Hill" hallelujah, thank you brother. that one snuck up on me have a great day god bless you

Love the old school 1950's style tour/voice over! Funny and charming and a refreshimg change to most all other tours. Love the skoolie and the way you've integrated all the elements including the printer...and it's so cosy!
This man should be a voice over person and a copy writer. His enunciation, perfect . As is his choice of words for the story telling. Whew.
Yes, voice-over, you don't want to click out. Great sense of humor and inspiring. Love it!
BEST voice-over bus tour EVER! It felt like I was listening to a infomercial. Kept waiting for, "...but wait, there's more!! For $19.99 you will get a complete set of..." lololol Loved the flow!!

We love everything. Please keep cranking them out. We will be there "ooooing and ahhhing" , laughing and sitting at home totally jealous but we'll keep it all on the inside.
“Our two bottle openers are constantly yelling at each other.” 🤣😂🤣😂 Great build. Great video. And excellent sense of humor! Well done!!
I have to agree with so many here who have already said it - If Zac doesn't already do voice over work, he truly should! Your build is absolutely gorgeous, comfortable and so very homey... I've never wanted to live in a school bus more in my life! And the video/voice over did an amazing job of showing and showcasing every beautifully crafted area. Just beautiful!! Living the dream! Congrats you two, or, four! Best of wishes, from a new subscriber. ♥♥
I think you guys should have the next skoolie/tiny living Netflix documentary!
Wow, the hard work and creativity within this build are so impressive. I'm in love with the interior design of your home. Massive nod to you both!

That's the hardest part, if you keep your 9-5 and stay in your bus/van it'll be a lot cheaper with no house/rent payments, but there are a lot of stay at home jobs, but if you're not skilled in some aspects it'll be harder, for instance, if you're a graphic designer and you're comfortable with taking in jobs it shouldn't be too hard, or if you're a videographer and you drive around the country to make videos
this is probably THE MOST aesthetically pleasing AND functional bus builds ive ever seen !
You guys may have created one of my favorite bus conversions ever. It's both functional and good looking to and extent that very few other people have been able to accomplish. Keep up the good work!
“And is just *bleep* charming” ha This is my favorite design that I’ve seen, closest to my own plans.
I think you guys have the most comfortable bathroom for school-bus life, ever
Only someone who put in the work can tell you all the imperfect spots... cause no one else notices them. Very nice work.
Loved it! You’re one of my favorite nomads to follow and give me hope to do this one day. Zak’s voice is so calming I think he needs to record a meditation podcast for me! ❤️😄
Literally the best freakin walk through I have watched. The editing was on point, the design is beautiful, and you guys are just so awesome honest and inspiring. This is a must save video so in a year when I am finally traveling I can make a video and literally say that you guys were the kick in the rump I needed to just go for it and live my best life. Keep going! Love it!❤
i wish every skoolie tour was filmed like this
There’s no RV that can compare to what you guys have done. 👍🏾
"Our bottle openers are constantly yelling at each other" lol too cute 😂
ZAC SOUNDS LIKE THE VOICEOVER GUY FROM "HOW ITS MADE" HOLY CRAP😭😭
WOW, what an accomplishment, I'm 71 now having lived my hippie dayz in the mtns. of Colo. I would've surely lived this lifestyle, even at this stage of my life, I'm living my permaculture retirement in S. Florida...every day an adventure...kudos kids, you are my people...!
I LOVE your magnetic knife holder. If one happens to come loose from the magnet, it drops into the recess onstead of falling off the wall and onto a counter top. Genius! Patent that and make some money!
I love you guy's bus. Tiff did a great job as decorator in chief. Zac's documentary voice was all "here we have Zac and Tiffany in their natural habitat...with a *%:#! charming cubic mini" 😄 love it. Thanks you two for your fun videos.
Love the bus layout and overall design. Y’all did an awesome bus conversion. Y’all have some unique touches I’ve not seen anywhere else. All the little fun details really make it a homey functional cabin on wheels. Thanks for sharing and safe travels 🚌😊❤️👍🌎🎶🎥 War Eagle 🦅😎
Ticket to Ride is really the only BOARD game you need...
If Zac ever needs extra work he can always do voice-overs what a voice you guys did a beautiful job on that bus I love it
YTU has enabled people to achieve their dreams.
Great build, tour and editing. Congrats guys! Cheers.
"This [table] is where we would...argue, make up..." HA HA, I love your deadpan sense of humor.
No bulshit. No explaining yourself. No hippie talk. Just a tour of a great looking but. I love it sincerely and have added it to my favourites playlist, because I will be returning to this
Absolutely the most quality crafted skoolie tour video I’ve seen. Such an inspiration!
Thanks, you guys are an inspiration. I'm presently working on doing the same thing. RV's are insanely expensive, even the used ones, and besides that, they are flimsy and can't carry all that much weight. But my (school) bus is hardcore steel, designed to haul 8000 lbs of human being and their stuff. At the moment I'm gathering all the components of the PV system I designed because I'm installing that first. The idea is it is going to actually help with the rest of the build, powering tools and stuff. Thanks again! Now, if we happen to bump into you guys at one of those events, we don't have to be among of the numerous hordes of people gawking at your bus and tracking in all kinds of crap on my feet. I can just sit back and watch this really cool tour video ;-)
This is the dream of any nature lover!!!♥️
this is by far the best layout of a skoolie
Great job on this segment you guys. Your bus is outstanding and your channel has become one of my favorite KZread subscriptions. If I was younger, I‘d be following your lead. Just continue to enjoy every day, and be well.

Thanks u 2, well put together. Love love love it, your place is dreamy. Love cabin style
I absolutely Love this bus! The live edge, extention table, curtain for closet, that door on the kitchen cabinets! So awesome!
Out of the tiny house bus tours I've watched, this one is my favorite.
I really appreciate the work you guys put into your production. Thanks!
I LOVE your build and adore y’all! Thanks for keeping it real and providing so much insight into choosing this lifestyle, how you got here, etc. The bus is stunning, so great job you two! ✨💛
wtf this makes me hate my life. I've just experienced true beauty. you have created art and have inspired me and most likely thousands of people, thank you
I feel like they both could do voice over work. Hers is great for a cartoon or animated movie while his is Mr. Movie Phone. Perfect couple
Best tour video I've seen. Great job!
Love the video.... thank you for sharing your adventure .You both should be very proud of all the work you did on your home.
Zac killed it as a narrator! Very professional, and funny! LOL!
I love his narrator voice and her Art outside!
Great Video! Your furbabies are ADORABLE!!!
Congrats guys, its beautiful🙂 and that voice, so professional. ty for sharing🙂
My goodness, you sound like a professional announcer, very very articulate and no monotone, with expression…thank you for sharing I love this video and congratulations to you both 🎉🎉❤
Loved how the video was shot! Excellent voice over!!! "Our bottle openers are constantly yelling at each other" is a perfect example of how we can imagine each item in our house to be 😁
Great editing on this one.... nearly spat my drink across the room on F*n Charming. So awesome to see your dream come alive! Thanks for sharing.
This is one of the best conversions I have seen....great job.
Beautiful. Seriously I felt like I was on my first day of work and having to watch an orientation and listening to the perfect speaking host. Great voice!
It's an amazing looking bus even with; as you put it, all of it's imperfections. It looks so warm and inviting, you made it look as if you're in a log cabin. Feel proud because you did a good job. Stay safe my friend!
I’ve seen so many skoolie versions, few I’d want to call my home. This is one of the exceptions. You’ve achieved genuine warmth and simple charm balanced by resourceful practicality. A classic Skoolie! Great job...
The guy has a great voice. I absolutely loved what you guys did with this conversion. One of the best that I’ve seen. And shout out to the wife for doing an amazing job on that bathroom.
Amazing! I'm 64 about to turn a young 65 and starting my second life free as the artist I was suppose to be here in Florida away from snow and ice and I was looking at ways to get off the grid as hurricane season gets to it's peak here. Your approach to self self-sufficiency is inspiring and logically simplistic. Very refreshing, Thank you!
SWEEET! We're also getting ready to film our bus tour soon and more importantly hit the road within a few weeks! We've enjoyed watching your channel grow over the last six months, thanks for the inspiration. ✌️

Very inspiring! I've been watching your videos for about two years now. You two come across very relatable and humble. I'm converting my bus in Loveland right now and your videos have been extremely helpful. Best of luck on your journey!
His voice is amazing! I'm sure Tiff loves it!
Thank you for sharing this. Your living one old ladies dream. Yeah, mine. I always wanted to travel, but I’m too old now. So I get to enjoy watching you young folk live my life. I can share one little piece of knowledge with you... I’ve been married for 30 years now, and what makes it work... communication. Always talk things out, NEVER go to bed angry. And that’s all I have. Lol. Have fun, be safe and always thank God every day for what you have. God bless you both!
Great job on the bus and this tour! That wood interior looks warm and cozy. Maybe if you are good the dogs will let you use that couch once in a while.
This is totally awesome... even better than I expected! I've been following you for just a few months now and I am officially addicted 🙂 Great job on the editing and music - F***ing charming lol. That's it, I'm building a bus - see you on the road!
*With this guys voice, I thought I was watching the showcase showdown!*
One of the best narrated tours as the narration is short and poignant the camera smooth and the tour begins at the front of the bus and doesn’t jump around. Well done and well designed.
I need to rethink my water usage if I want to be able to be off grid

There's a recycling shower I've seen people build, so you can shower off just a few gallons. Hopefully someone will manufacture it soon
Awesome video. The bus is charming The footage at the end... fabulous. Tuco walking that beam; easy does it. Foot tattoo love it. Those bean burgers yum. Where's the recipe? Good stuff guys Being an artist there's nothing better. Your life looks fantastic & worth the price
I have watched hours upon hours of RV, van, and bus builds over the last few days. Seriously, I've probably watched close to 50 videos on mobile and tiny living. This bathroom is the BEST bathroom I've seen in a bus. It is huge, and looks gorgeous with the stained glass. And the rest of the bus is beautiful too! So many little details that I love. Y'all did wonderful and should be so proud!
WOW,YOU SHOULD , DO COMMERCIAL, WITH THAT CLEAR VOICE, YOU ARE SO GOOD,I JUST LIKE TO HEAR YOU EXPLAIN THINGS. THE BEST,VIDEO EVER,MAN YOU ARE GREAT, AND BEYOND. I AM GOING TO PLAY THIS AGAIN, JUST TO HEAR YOU TALK.
I have loved your bus from day one. Your style is my style, love everything about it!! You have done an amazing job. Boy she's heavy, but all that lovely yumminess inside I can see why. All that lovely wood. The miles per gallon could use some help, but again, all that weight. You have really done an amazing job and the stove is a great touch. I do think it's a bummer that you are traveling separately tho', that sucks. I can't remember your reason of not towing. Great video, thoroughly enjoyed it and the lovely radio voice makes it very easy to listen to. :) Safe travels.

Tiff gets car sick and the dogs are too anxious in the bus, if I recall. Makes it easier for everyone. Plus it's loud while the bus is running... Don't necessarily spend much quality time together if you can't talk and everyone's uncomfortable.
Awesome , waiting patiently...sorta ...lol
