Ain't this the honest truth! Now I see kids never turning on their toe edge just sliding down the hill face first on their heel edge, while I carve by on my hard boots.

That was caused by two factors; Tight stance width (Avg., then was 19"!), and, the infamous-but-useful Canting Wedge, under the Rear Binding! This little (but heavy, on Burton's) wedge let you allow your Hip to get 'just behind' your back foot, and be able-to 'Re-Center' yourself Without pulling a Groin muscle! Wedged rear-foot lifts are still used Today on Alpine/Race boards, yet, oddly, not used much on Powder boards [?], but have been under my feet on Most of My boards in the 25 years I taught snowboarding. Btw, I was an ISF Judge when this was filmed, and it's spooky looking back at how Back-hoe-dug pipes looked compared to the Pipe at Okemo that I helped design, just a season after this!

@@ericbrammer2245 lol. I rode cants before it even was a product. Old tail skid from a skateboard under my barfoot's rear binding in like 85
