What kit did you end up going with on the 727 rebuild? Been following your videos step by step & taking everything apart.

I ordered parts from Cobra Transmission. I started with just gaskets and bushings, then added clutches and steels individually

Curious question why do you want more clutch bands? What does more do? I have a newport would putting more in it be a good idea or just a good idea because yours is for 4wd.

It adds surface area for transferring the power through the clutch pack, so each area of clutch is holding less power. It reduces slip and heat and makes it live longer.

It's so weird that everything else looked like new, and the clutches were smoked. I guess we may know why the van was parted out.

I wonder if it was misadjusted or something. The real surprise is how clean and bright the fluid looked with completely toasted clutches.

It's like someone "rebuilt" it without disassembling the clutch packs.

@@YoshimoshiGarage have you reinstalled the distributor yet? I am not sure how to do that on mine

@@bdc7273 Yes. Once you have the drive gear in, you drop in the distributor. If you have piston #1 at TDC on the compression stroke, then the rotor will be pointing at plug wire #1. Convention has that pointed to the front, drivers side of the motor but it doesn't actually matter where it's pointed as long as you just wire the proper firing order from there.

@@YoshimoshiGarage right now I have the engine at TDC cyl 1. I haven't messed with anything yet but the base of the distributor. The rotor points towards cyl 8 at TDC cyl 1. Must be how it came from the factory. Do I adjust the base of the distributor so that the mark for cyl 1on the distributor is lined up with the rotor tip?

@@bdc7273 If you want to point it somewhere else, you can pull and rotate the intermediate shaft, but if you're at TDC of #1, wherever you have the rotor pointed, just start with plug wire 1 there. Without pulling the intermediate shaft, you can pull the distributor and drop it 180 out. Again, convention has that pointing at the front intake bolt by hole #1, but you can really put it anywhere you like.
