Burnout (PS2 Gameplay)
Ойындар
Burnout (PS2) - Vehicle: Supermini - Track: River City
Burnout is a street-racing game where you are put in the drivers seat of 9 vehicles with the option of racing 14 circuits. Every dance with death earns you more 'Burn' power that you can use to tear up the road at turbo speeds. Smashing into traffic costs you time. You'll get bonus points for your near-misses, trying to actually win a race while the city bustles around you. Your opponents can be a pack of ruthless computer drivers, or you can turn up the aggression and battle against a friend in multiplayer races, ramming them into walls, steering them into oncoming traffic or causing pile-ups that they have to swerve around or dive through!

I remember spending more time causing accidents than actually racing.

Doesn't help when the trigger for crashes and the margins for near miss boosts are much less forgiving than later games.

This level of nostalgia hurts, it's 12am and I'm getting melancholic remembering those days.
Man that game smells of such extraordinary levels of nostalgia! Take me back to the time when I was 5 or 6, maybe 7 or 8 years old when I played it on the PS2, causing more accidents than racing! 🤣😂 Man I surely do miss it back in 2006 or 2007 when playing it, it really bought me back such tears of joy with all of the jeopardy and fun involving the game.
I used to play this with my brother, RIP. Big bro, we had good memories as kids. ❤

I remember the early 2000s. When everything was all about the future. That intro song was no exception.
Miss Burnout series. Anyway, this first Burnout more similar to Thrill Drive
fun fact: Burnout was actually inspired by another game called Thrill Drive

Such a simple, beautifully made game. In particular I loved the soundtracks, the swerving of oncoming traffic, and the crash replays. Long live the Burnout. 💙
My favourites, the first 3 burnout games. The first racinggame with an ACTUAL speed feeling...
Old school Burnout! I haven't played that in so long.
More than a decade later, I can still hear the _checkpoint!_ in my mind.

By far, the best graphics game of 2000-2001! 10 years ahead of it's time! It almost looks as good as Driver San Francisco. And that came out whole 10 YEARS after this!
This game aged SOOOOO Damn well! Still looks like it could have been made in the last 5-10 years!

The music turns tragic when you have crashed twice
A good cheat on this game was a physics engine hack - If you want to avoid drifting, or losing control, just let go of the throttle before turning.
Nostalgia has just gone through the roof 😧
I have this game still and played it through my childhood. 😂
I was watching a video of T5G and saw gameplay from it, and the nostalgia HIT ME ! i had dream of this game but forgot the name, i was like "its like need for speed' i've finally found it !!!
This was the first PS2 game I ever played.
Looking back at this game when Burnout 3 was my first introduction to the series is jarring to say the least, from the music to the stylistic differences.
Nice gameplay
Man i love that franchise
The intro music ❤nostalgic asf
Nice job man and this racing game is very good indeed :)
the menu music makes me feel like a kid again
If you ever felt the need for speed that was you game! It was awesome! and planning your crashes (well sort of) and watching the destruction really fun!

There was a red pickup truck part of the race, he always gets me.
I never tried out the "replay" option after the race. Damn, what have I missed? Need to upload that one to my next LPs. Thanks for sharing!

Christ it’s pretty rough compared to what was to come. Great series shame it’s no more. They’d rather make poxy need for speed instead.

Burnout Is Awesome
My fav car was the Saloon in white ;)
Game title: Burnout Release date: October 7, 2001 Platforms: PS2, Xbox, GameCube, PC, GBA Publisher: Acclaim Entertainment, Criterion Games, Render Ware, Electronic Arts Genre: Racing
Played this in arcade but I don't see any mention of the game being released in arcade on the internet. I would say it was prior to 2001, maybe 1999. It was a great game to play in arcade. Certainly one of my favorite games at the time.

Shitty AI and unpredictable traffic made this game a pain in the ass. I hated being first 2/3rds of a race only to hit one car on a blind corner and lose the race to the 500mph AI.

I remember buying this game for the PS2 around the time it came out and taking it round a friends house to see if anyone else wanted to play it and we ended up spending HOURS playing the game mode where you have to cause as much damage as possible between me and my 5 mates. Up until that point the only other game that kind of offered the same thing was the Destruction Derby games but I'm talking original playstation and the graphics were SHOCKING and the gameplay was AWFUL!!
Oh, how to forget that bastard that goes against the traffic on the third lap! Well, I don't exactly have the authority to criticize him/her, haha.
Very clunky steering. I want this game!

After having played Burnout Legends and Burnout Dominator on the PSP, I have to say that this game is kind of a disappointment. You can't take down the other drivers without the game bringing you to a stop as well (I forced one of the opponent into the back of another car, I never touched that car, but the game still made me stop) and you can't use boost until the meter is full, which is a royal pain in the ass to do, especially as every crash seems to drain it back down to nothing. I'll admit that I'm not the best player, but I can usually manage to win some races on the other games. I've been playing this one for around an hour now and I haven't managed to fill the boost meter even once. At first I thought there was something wrong with the emulation because I couldn't figure out how to activate it. After watching this video, I see that you can't use it until the meter is full.

Yeah, but you have to remember that this was released before games became too easy, and simplified. This was from a time where you had an actual challenge. A game like this couldn't be released today, because people won't have the patience to practice, and get good at it.
@lurkerrekrul

With the first game, it just feels like they've really artificially handicapped you. I spend the entire race just trying to catch up to the computer cars, and even if I drive a lap perfectly with no crashes, it seems like I'm still way behind. It's like my car just isn't fast enough to overtake the computer racers.
@PhantomDZ01
7 жыл бұрын
Well the system on this earliest version is quite like Konami's "Thrill Drive", which is the game that Criterion based on it to make this. If you play Thrill Drive before, you'll know that the ai are exteremly hard to catch-up, especially with the lack of boost, even if you overtake them, seconds later they'll rubberband back to you.

+Phantom D.Z - I've never played Thrill Drive, but watching a video of it, I do see where Burnout's inspirations came from. BTW, I did eventually manage to win the first race in Burnout, but that was as far as I got. Normally I'm not really fond of the arcade practice of including time limits for you to reach each checkpoint. I'd much rather that they let you finish the race and you lose if you don't get a good enough place. However, I didn't find the time limits in Burnout to be too much of a problem. Full disclosure: I played this in an emulator and it wasn't exactly running at full speed. It was playable, but you could tell it was supposed to be faster. That's common to all the PS2 Burnout games I tried. They're playable and while you're racing you really don't think "Jeez, this is slow!", it's mostly when you stop and listen to the music that you notice it doesn't sound right.
