When I met him, he was the embodiment of that sentance
I clicked on this video because I used to have a really sustained interest in the art of ancient cultures as a kid, especially from the Aztecs. The mask on the thumbnail instantly drew me in. Wasn’t sure what to expect from this video, having never heard of MIKE or any of his music, and to be completely honest I didn’t understand it at first. But MIKE’s flow still had me coming back because of how different it sounded from other artists, with how eerily calm it was. Now this album is one of my go to’s for when I’m chilling at home, doing chores, homework, whatever. I used to absolutely despise rap because I thought it was just a bunch of lyrics talking about meaningless stuff (gucci gang certainly didn’t help), but songs like DUCKWORTH. (Especially with my nickname lol), 3005 or Doomsday remind me that rap can be just as rhythmically and melodically beautiful as any other genre, and oftentimes the lyrics are far more honest than other artists can bear to admit. This album’s hazy, distorted sound makes me think about the past, about how much I want to go back and fix things, how many times I’ve held myself back for fear of overextending, those lovely, lonely days where the colors of the sunset were just as mixed up as my feelings…realizing that the part of me that loves this kind of music has been buried for far too long. “How long have you denied that burning desire?” Too long, MIKE. Far too long. ❤️🔥
MIKE is insane for this lmao. A collab album including him comes out a month ago and he just casually drops another album, and this seems to be his longest yet.

MIKE is one of the greatest artists of our times The Kendrick,Cole &drake era is officially done and he’s leading this new post-postmodern era of rap . Constantly challenging us to grow with him as his listeners , his music is profoundly complex ,enthralling and thought provoking. Once you really tap in the vibe is crazy too. As an artist he’s pressing buttons in you that you never knew existed .Each listen provides an opportunity to experience something new . From the production to the bars .which can be extremely uncomfortable as there’s a constant tension between what you expect to hear , what you want to hear and reconciling with what you end up hearing . On the surface at "first glance" he’s music can come across as abstract , dense or arbitrary .however wants you probe deeper over time just like a contemporary piece of art it subconsciously starts to click . On a technical level , the pockets , flows , cadences and rhyme schemes are just a gift that never stops giving . The uncanny delivery , relatability and vulnerability in his writing together with the bite sized nuggets of wisdom Is really what resonates the most. On the production he’s constantly making old shit sound new . (The time signatures , grooves And drum pockets >madness) The authentic universe that he’s created and given us access to is quite remarkable for someone that is yet to peak and only getting better with time. When it comes to art direction , marketing strategy and brand identity . He never misses . S/o to him and the team . They’re doing an amazing Job.
