I have another one branded Novapolt that has proven to be faster than this LiteOn. I plan to do a head-to-head comparison sometime in the future.

After shooting this vid, I compared the LiteOn to a Novapolt ECD819-SU3 External Drive that I had at work. The Novapolt was faster, feels more sturdy, and offers USB3.

If you hook it up to a cellphone or a Android can you use bluetooth to burn a Cd without using a Pc ??

Years ago I burned some videos to DVDs on a Lite-on DVD recorder, but did not finalize or close them. When I now want to play these DVDs on a new DVD player (the old Lite-on ended up at the container park years ago), it does not recognize the DVDs because they are not closed. Would it still be possible to finalize or close this on this DVD burner from Lite-on? Thanks for a reply back. Eric - Belgium

I prefer the software InfraRecorder for burning disks on Windows.

Never burn at max speed. Its more likely to fail and burned groove is weaker.

Does this optical drive have 4x speeds for DVD 5 and CD and 2.4x speed for DVD 9 for burning? And what is the minimum writing speed Please answer quickly because I got the money after a long time and I want to buy it if it is what I want

I have had trouble with setting mine up, I bought the Nero media home software to play dvds from it, what do you recommend that I do, I only want to play dvds from it as my current laptop doesn’t have a player in it?

I suggest installing the VLC media player. It is great for playing DVDs and pretty much any video file format. It's free, open source, and cross-platform.

Eject can be "locked" during the burning process, and if it has an error during a burn, it might possible get stuck that way. I would try unplugging and re-plugging the device and try again. You can also try a software eject.

Can you burn a cd with a Android using bluetooth without using a Pc or apps if you put a blank cd in it ??

This burner gets it's data via USB wire. It has no built-in bluetooth.

I can see a need for a USB DVD/Blu-ray drive even for desktop computers since these days, there are computer cases and gaming desktops that don't even have a DVD or Blu-ray drive or include provisions to install one in the case. It could also be useful for older games on DVD or CD although this won't help with CD-ROM games that use SafeDisc (which is blocked on Windows 10, and Vista-8.1 with an update) unless you either get an .exe to bypass the disc requirement or use a download version such as GOG.com. I'm curious about the no-name USB DVD/Blu-ray drives I often see on Amazon and eBay. I'm concerned that these no-name Chinese drives aren't as good as name brands like Samsung or LG since they probably don't use DVD/Blu-ray drives sourced from a legitimate supplier or probably use salvaged drives and a no-name component could lead to problems. I remember VWestlife making a video of the Sabrent CRW-FLP2 floppy drive & USB card reader he did 4 years ago and the Memory Stick slot wasn't working on the first product so he received a second one except the floppy drive wouldn't work. About 9 minutes in the video, he took apart both of the products and discovered the bad floppy drive was a no-name brand while the good one was made by TEAC.

This is actually my 2nd external DVD-R drive. The other one is a Novaplot, and it reads and writes faster. I picked up this Lite-on on sale for less than $20. Yes, there are some no-name slightly cheaper than this, but the dollar difference isn't worth the gamble.

Can you install pc game with this?

My demonstration was with Windows 10. I will not switch to Win 11 as long as I can avoid it.

Master Gunnery Sergeant Velez, On-the-fly copying of optical discs is a feature of some disc burning titles, such as Nero, CloneDVD, InfraRecorder, and more. Most software titles that offer this feature cost money, and I have not tried any of them. InfraRecorder is freeware, but the website does not say if it works with any Windows release after Windows 7. Please keep in mind that commercial DVDs have copy protection schemes that may prevent a successful transfer of your data. Thank you for your service.

Well done, but you would be far better off using and external microSD card drive for large backups. Only my opinio. of course.

I totally agree that SD storage is superior to CD/DVD for data backups. I will primarily be using this device to load software that comes on optical media, and burn music CDs for the car and an occasional video DVDs.

You can play DVDs on a computer, but you cannot connect this directly to a television.
