I’ve Watched it five times in a week...

Every time I hear this, I get this image in my head: Eliza is alone in her room, packing up her things to leave Alex (not that this happened in real life according to knowledgeable people in the replies) when she finds Hamilton’s old letters on her desk. She picks them up and sifts through them. When she sings the “You and your words left me defenseless” part, she hugs the letters to her chest. Then, she reads them. When she sings, “The world seemed to burn”, the candle on her desk glows so bright that it consumes everything in the room. When she sings about something, it flashes in front of her (Renolds Phamplet, her Sister etc.) His words surrond her as she becomes angrier and angrier. Finally, the light shrinks back into the candle as she burns the letters. When she sings, “I hope that you burn”, Alex’s face becomes the candle, and she blows him out. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk (and thank you for continuing to come to this TedTalk and leave replies. I love it.)

@SimplyManat I checked it out, and according to the All-Hailed Internet, one of Eliza Hamilton’s first reactions to the Renolyds Pamphlet was to leave Hamilton and go stay with her father again. She DID come back though, because you know...she forgave him. And if we can’t see eye to eye on this, we can just agree to disagree. Have a Great Day!

just a tip for anyone who is struggling learning this song: if you want to try and do the “burn” the first chorus like phillipa soo did it, hold the “r” for longer and it should make it sound softer. hope this helped :)

I wish I could explain how much this song inspires me and means to me. There are so many things throughout the entire song, so much potential for the performer to be creative. The long notes give you the possibility of playing with the dynamics of the voice, and you can put some vocal effects, all of this together with a good interpretation and you can focus more on making eliza sound more heartbroken and dissapointed or mad and exhausted.

As a low alto, the fact I am somehow able to sing this makes me so happy 😭

In my opinion, I wouldn’t do this song just because it’s so popular and judges are probably tired of hearing it. I’d do something that not as many people know, because it’s always nice for the judges to just get a breath of fresh air with a different song. But yeah especially since Hamilton just came out on Disney+, probably many people are doing this song, so I’d do something a little less popular :)

Mikaela Schelling well yes, but if a bunch of people sing it you’ll just blend in with all the others. The judges won’t really notice you as much. So it’s best to sing a less popular song so you’ll stand out to the judges. But also like the other person said, pick a song that shows off a better range, because this one doesn’t really do that.

I’ve sung this so many times I love it so much

Every time I hear this song I imagine Eliza folding clothes then getting up to put it away and finding the letters Alex wrote her in a box in her closet. And as she opens it she thinks of all the good memories they've had until she realizes that that's all ruined now that Alexander cheated on her. She doesn't want to talk to anyone not because she's ashamed but because of her Pride that she doesn't want anybody to see her hurt. She then goes to her kids room to put them to sleep while she thinks of why he would cheat on her if they were so happy together. Then Alexander comes and tries to explain but she's so full of emotions like love, confusion, anger, sadness and possibly more that she just asks him to leave her alone. Then Alexander goes into his office and thinks of what he had done while his 2 older kids Philip and Angelica go into his office Philip mad and Angelica confused about why he would do such a thing to her sweet, loving, full of happiness mother. Alexander's so ashamed that he doesn't even try to explain to his children. Which makes Philip angrier and angrier and then storms off pulling Angelica's hand so she could come with him to check on their mom. As they open the door to their parents room and see their mom writing a letter to her older sister Angelica begging her to come home so she could have somebody by her side now that Alexander is not with her while crying. *Sorry i have a wild imagination*

The trick to hitting big notes is to get out of your head. Relax your face muscles and vocal chords and just push. Don't go crazy and start wailing but don't tighten up and be afraid. Cuz then your voice will break. Feel the music and trust it to carry you. Just a lil free advice.
