McDonald’s should do their own “Melt”

They did, back in the 80's. Caramelized onions with a cheese whiz sauce. It was good. I agree, they should.

As a former bk employee (30 years ago) I can tell you some things. First, they only have two patty sizes, small and large. The small is used on burgers/stackers/whopper jr's/this, and the large is used on whoppers/kings. It almost feels like they're re-branding whopper. Second, I'm guessing the cheese isn't melted because it hasn't been microwaved. The typical bk burger is run through the broiler with an accompanying bun. It is then placed in a steaming tray to keep it warm. When the sandwich is made, it is pulled out of the steaming tray and then either assembled then wrapped and nuked, or nuked then assembled and wrapped (depending on ingredients). This sandwiches ingredients seem to lend itself to wrap then nuke, except for the thick toast. It looks like they chose the nuke then wrap method.

An example of when to microwave is 1)cheeseburger--grab sandwich from steamer. Add ketchup, mustard, and pickle to sandwich. Wrap sandwich. Microwave. Mark time. Send down chute. 2)whopper--grab sandwich from steamer. Microwave bottom bun and burger. While waiting, put mayo, lettuce, and tomato on crown (top bun). Get bottom bun (heel) an patty. Put on 4 pickles, ketchup, and onions. Assemble and wrap. Mark time. Send down chute. Because microwaving lettuce and tomatoes would make them gross, you change the way you make the sandwich. But this sandwich doesn't have any ingredients that would wilt in the microwave. So it's either build the sandwich and nuke (making the toast softer) or no nuke. Of course it seems they could have nuked the two patties and cheese on a regular bun to melt the cheese, then just put that on the toast and built the sandwich.

This isn’t the early 90s anymore. We never nuked stuff when I use to work at Bk at least at my store.

My local Burger King has these and yesterday I tried the bacon whopper melt. And I thought that it tasted good.

It’s so true. Every time a place does the toast or sourdough, they never toast it properly.

@@Lancet711 Lol, that's like pulling teeth at my local BK. They rarely get my order correct. Yesterday I ordered 2 whopper melts and 1 whopper. They give me 3 regular whoppers when I looked in the bag after leaving. Needless to say I wasn't happy and went back through the drive thru to get the correct order.

I never eat a burger without ketchup on it. If there's no ketchup on it, I feel it is missing something.

The only exception I had with that is the sourdough jack from jitb. I dipped it in ranch. Otherwise, I dip my burgers in a gallon of ketchup.

I had this yesterday and it wasn’t bad, but it also didn’t have many onions (which was what made me want it to begin with) and the bun wasn’t even toasted (it was literally white with just a little tiny brown spot in the middle 😂). Without the onions it basically tasted like a mini bacon king. Mine did come with a lot of bacon, though, so I’ll give them that. My cheese was also melted because I had to microwave it because I didn’t eat it right away, lol.

Mine wasn't good at all, it was like the whole sandwich was microwaved when I ordered and they handed it to me. No one in the drive thru and they were handing me the bag before I could get my change.

It really does not look "whopper" sized!! It looks like they used the smaller meat patties and just stuck the "whopper" name on it!! Or else the dude has massive hands!!

The Burger King over here in South Michigan did not have it I'm not sure if they do have it still however I do agree with you when you talk about him out you should have a crispy on the top and bottom and it should be melted inside stacker sauce I'm not sure about it I'm always on the fence about that however I think that a touch would be a little bit of cream of mushroom with some mushrooms sauteed with the onions

Do you know if they have it in a single? Not a fan of a double patty 😳

Bk has two sized burger patties--their smaller patty for hamburger/stackers/whopper jr's and now this, and their whopper patties for whoppers/kings. I'm not sure if they're trying to re-name their smaller patties into whopper now that the king sandwiches have really taken off. But yeah, this thing is just a glorified stacker. Change the bun and add caramelized onions, the hike up price.

Right you are, if you're gonna call something a melt...the cheese should be melted!!!

Basically a double cheeseburger on grilled texas toast bread for nearly 6 bucks.......pass. fail. ripoff. Great review.

And I agree, man. Why no crunch? How hard is it to toast the bread just a little longer? And I hate being the guy that makes special requests, so why not just do it right the first time?
