I've been listening to this song over and over again for the last few weeks. It's the very last song I sent to my baby brother. He battled drug addiction in his late teens to early 20's, went to prison for the first time at 17. He turned 18 years old in prison. He went back at 21 and his youngest daughter was born while he was in that time. He stayed clean from drugs from then on. He went through so much over the years, lost alot of friends, saw alot that couldn't be unseen. He's battled depression and alcoholism for a while now. In March of this year, he checked himself in to detox, began seeing a psychiatrist. They prescribed him numerous psych meds. On June 1st, he got into an argument with his wife, and picked up that bottle again. He wrecked a quarter of a mile from my house. My son made it to his truck first. It seemed like it took forever for the ambulance to arrive and then even longer for the helicopter to get there. He never regained consciousness, his neck was broken in 2 places and he had no brain activity. On June 4th, they told us he would never recover, that we could keep him alive with machines and gave us a few days to make a decision. The absolute worst day of my life was June 9th, when we took him off of life support. His time of death was 1:43 in the afternoon. I was holding his hand when they called it. I miss him so much and so many of Burdens songs remind me of him. We sent each other songs all the time. I've sent so many Burden songs to him. Life is so unfair and cruel. And short. Life is so short. He's worked on pipelines all over this country for the last 15 years, worked his ass off to give his family everything, missed so much as his girls were growing up. Now they have everything... Everything except him. 😢
