Just another day at the office for the 80s-athletic-monster version of MJ. This is incredible - I have this game up from the exact opposite angle so I've never seen this version before. Thanks for the upload!

WOW.. almost 26 yrs ago and MJ wae doing this. You wont see another player like this in our lifetime. As Pat Riley stated "ive never seen a player this good and spectacular at the same time"

thank you for this rare game!! the move on 2:32 is sick. his reflex is just so unbeliveble. the 2:43 move is crazy too even though he miss that jumper, look how quick and determined he is in that play but going to the other direction and the defensive player has no clue and no way to guard him. that kind of basketball knowledge is what is missing today.

The Atlanta Hawks were a very athletic team back then. In fact they were the superior team. But The Bulls had Jordan. If you kids say that today`s NBA basketball is more competitive than the late 80`s you should notice just how many good athletes the Hawks had on Jordan in this game. There are only three major differences between nowdays and the golden days: the players are bulkier, less team oriented and heartless. The thing is no team today, nor player could stop Michael Jordan today.

How are you going to guard him? Give him space and he'll hit the jumper. Crowd him and he'll drive. Put a smaller guy on him and he'll post up. Put a bigger guy on him and he'll drive. Pack the paint and play zone and he'll move without the ball for a cut or to get a midrange jumper. Dude can basically do everything. Only way to "guard" him is to be him up, which Detroit and New York did (which you can't do today).

Word. Just to add to the great defensive wings you listed ... Gerald Wilkins, Rolando Blackman, Alvin Robertson, and Joe Dumars.

It`s so frustrated to read that today`s basketball player is better player than twenty years ago. Well there are a lot of players that can dunk in more ways today than they back then. The handling skills are a little better. But the fundamentals are gone, the team play is also missing and the heart. The passion, the sacrifice is not in the game anymore. these guys just don`t have it. A 76ers `83 team any of the 80`s Lakers team, any of the Celts 80`s team, 89/90 Pistons team would cruise today

I believe that the teams in the era that you named were a little more defensive oriented because the league was more watered down and there were less great players on each team. Passing and shooting skills went down, not necessarily defense improving. Also that was the era when guys got bigger through weightlifting after being inspired by the Knicks. That being said, I think that the 2guard spot is more athletic but nowhere near as skilled, deep, and multi-faceted as MJ's day.

@mikjord What "fundamentals" are missing from today's game? What "passion" and "sacrifice" is missing now? Have you seen Kobe play?
@blackadam0613 жыл бұрын
@TheOtherView Why do U think the league changed the rules to FAVOR perimeter players? It was done to curtail a league besieged with guys with a LACK of formal training on the collegiate level, not to mention to create an "aesthetically appealing" game in hopes of increasing offense & efficiency, and to bring back longtime fans who'd stopped tuning in BECAUSE they saw a LACK of fundamentals & passion. The league changed from being about substance & team play to individual style & money..

Part of the reason the SG's appear so "talented" today is because the rules cater to them. You can pretty much chop 3-5 ppg off these guys' scoring averages if they played under the defensive rules of 10-15 years ago. Bye bye 10-13 FT's per game.
@jordanlover2316 жыл бұрын
I definitely think a 25-28 year old Jordan could have shot 52-53% in 1996 and 1997, for instance. His FG% decreased pretty linearly with age. He shot 49.5% in 1996, and that was on like 80% jumpers. I definitely think if that was 26 year old Jordan instead of 33 year old Jordan he shoots 2-3% better. At least 2% better (51.5%).

lol u'r obviously either a kid or know nothing about the history of basketball. Some of the greatest dynasties and players in the history of the game played in the 80s and 90s. Not to mention that the defensive rules back then weren't as soft and offense-friendly as they are today. There is a reason why mid-80s is considered the golden era of NBA basketball. The NBA today is a joke.
