I think one of the best things about this scene that makes it even more realistic is the fact that the main character isn’t perfect. He isn’t calm and collected, waiting for the guys to come at him and then executing each move perfectly, ending all of them with a single move… He’s angry, and he also misses a lot of hits because of it. You can’t knock somebody out with one kick or punch to the body, so there’s a lot of pummeling involved. He may be well trained, but he’s still human.

I agree this scene is closer to real life when it comes to a free fight, but you in fact CAN knock out someone with a blow to the liver, solar plexum or - of course - a kick in the balls.

@@xicex4459 that can only happen if your friend got a weapon or his opponents are really weak. when decent fighters jumped on a person, there is no room for movement, they all grapple you once, arms, legs, and they all stomp, kick punch the person once he is tired. However, weapons can make it even. He might also be able to beat them if they come after him one by one.

This movie is depicting what used to happen everyday Korean high schools in 1970s. This shows that we have deeply reflected how the school students were unsafe from school bullies. But anti school violence law is amazingly strict these days in Korea. You would get in trouble even when you talk bad things about your classmate on SNS.

Once Upon a Time in High School: The Spirit of Jeet Kune Do (Korean: 말죽거리 잔혹사) is a 2004 South Korean drama film. The background of the film is set in a high school in South Korea, 1978. The original Korean title literally means "cruel history of Maljuk street". It's a coming-of-age movie, not for a person, but for the country itself. It a legendary movie in Korea.

I appreciate fights more like this that's real emotion and real (in)competency. This fight scene is more akin to what you might find in the real world. Lots of struggles/wrestling/grabbing , lots of missed punches and kicks, lots of unconcentrated rage, screaming and cursing, nobody has the stamina of a super hero. It's messy like how a highschool fight should be.

This is a movie about what happened among 17-18-year-old students in South Korea in the 1970s. At that time, Korean society was not as safe as it is now. So adolescent students had to be strong on their own. Whether at school or in the neighborhood. This movie is not just about school violence. It reflects the oppression of military dictatorship that Korean society had to face in the 1970s and the times when it had to risk its life to protect its own conscience in an unfair and violent social atmosphere. After that, Korea has finally achieved its current democratization through numerous demonstrations and protests. You can find a veteran in the movie as a teacher at school. At that time, there was one teacher from veterans in all high schools. And, in the last scene, the letters attached to the school building were phrases that promoted military dictatorship. This actually happened under the military dictatorship at that time.

Hey just heads up, this is a Korean movie, it's really famous in Korea. It talks about the problems and issues of Korean schools during the late 1900s, where students that fought well were accepted as like a boss or a leader of the school, and nobody could do anything if the leader would beat somebody up or steal something from another student. The fight scene in this video is occurred because a student challenged the boss, meaning that if the student won a fight against the boss he would be the leader. However, in this case, the student challenged the leader because he wanted to have a revenge, since the current boss beat up his friend. Also, this movie is called "말죽거리 잔혹사" Idk what to call it in English.

Also, the main character's friend was not the boss previously like you said. He was a junior but nobody messed with him because he was such a badass.

Once upon a time in highschool hits too different if you have actually fought back against bullies & even won, because from that point unless you beat them up for good they start coming back, you can never half bake a fight against people who do it on daily basis and come at you like a pack of dogs every damn day And as for Majority of brain dead Teachers out there, they simply do not care for bullies as they are what they are according to teachers, bullies never seem to be getting any short end of The leash for making nerds shuttle food for them, or to make them carry their stuff or for taking money away from weaker kids, each DAY but when things go differently, when you are the big guy, when you are the strong guy, when a decent student, who happened to be strong actually has enough and beats them up for good, they get the punishment by the education system for nothing. like where the f*ck where you all this time? Why are you here now? What did i do wrong by defending myself, and my dignity?, this is reality of asian schools, when he said *f*ck all schools* i FELT that sh*t. Hell its honestly not even uncommon for a dude to actually knock out a teacher in the heat of moment and sometimes it is even justified because you have been pushed just that far, how long are you supposed to be treated like a garbage when you were just going by your life having done nothing wrong to deserve it. This whole idea that be a good boy, only applies to the boys who are stupid and naive enough to take asian schools seriously, you are left helpless cuz you never broke rules, you never knew how to not get punished by teachers, you do not know how to get away from fights, how to not get jumped by deliquents, in result you end up becoming one of them in full force.

Do you know what? I was bullied every year in middle school to high school. No joke. I am small and weak, easy to be targetted. My mother basically taught me "Tit for 3 tat". She said that you have to make two warning for them, to be a gentle guy. Even then they attempt to bully you, then go nuts. And It was alway ended like that. The best thing is, I never win, never lose. I never give up. When I go nuts, I fight like a mad dog, My arm was broken, My teeth was broken, My nose was broken. I didn`t give up, because I WARN THEM. If that goes far, teachers came in. And they saw the one who is bleeding. Both parents are gathering, And I`m the bleeding one, I warned them twice as my mother said. No one can not make an objection that their child would go on the court unless they apologize to me . Nobody wanted it, so the bullies are gone to other school or they can`t approach to me -- then the police will come. And next grade? The thing goes same again and again. This time, another bullies. Or friends of previous ones. The teachers met me. The students met me. But they never changed. almost six years in row and something should be changed(If you were an asian student, you know, everyone is busy studying in the last year of high school even including bullies). But it never ended untill I graduated and go university. Yes, F%%k all korean schools.

I have been in a fight and this is what's its like ,except at the end everyone runs away, Everyone has fantasies of fighting the bullies People do not question authority easily.(milgrams) No one has the balls to,in the end when they come for them, only then do they try fighting. The fight happened when my friend was getting bullied by a dude and his 2 friends ,I tried to protect him and break up the fight,so they started attacking me and the other guy saw his chance and fled away, luckily I managed to hold my ground till the teachers arrived. I got hurt ,but what really hurt was the friend who betrayed me,he didn't bother to tell the teachers he put all the blame on me and ran away. "Most people are good only for a lack of opportunity to be evil" "The thing about betrayal is that it always comes from friend and family, not foe" "In the end what matter is the silence of the good and not the misdeeds of evil" "Fight for those who will value your courage" If people the powers of a bully, they would keep the hierarchy alive, because it enables them. This is a scene where he was in high school in the late 1970s in Korea. The reason why the school uniform is black is that military remnants of the Japanese colonial era existed even after liberation. Sometimes a soldier appears, and that person is an active soldier in charge of high school military training who works as a training instructor at a high school. Teachers often assaulted their students at that time. The reason is that Korea was liberated from Japan and democratization did not settle until the end of the 80s. As a result, the educational culture for students in the country was not advanced, so the school atmosphere was somewhat brutal like in the movie.

What I love about this one is he didn't pretend to be dignified following some code of conduct or bs of that nature. Like a real human he disliked the guy and jumped bully before he was prepared fighting dirty, which we don't see that often if ever with these kick the bullies ass narratives. It's usually the bully who fights like that. This makes this so much more realistic

He should have hit the guy harder and killed him with that crack to the back of the head. He wouldn't have had to fight after that. Or throw the kid off the roof. Break bones. BREAK something. RIP something open. Tear off an ear. A savage house cat can back down a bear or an alligator.
