Bullet Hole? Takamine! Shot in the back! Nightmare to fix, even though it was not a bullet hole.

Музыка

I suspect that most Luthiers would not show videos like this... this is one that I would call 'barely a fix'. It had to be cost free... and, if I had to do it again, I would not use fillers but tinted superglue.

Thanks for making one of the few videos on KZread about actually patching with wood instead of using epoxy or something. I am planning to plug up a hole in the side of my cordoba which has a proprietary "barndoor" pickup system which went bad and which they don't sell replacements for. I am planning on using an LR Baggs system as these don't require you drill into the damn thing. I think you did a fantastic job. Do you have an update for the superglue lacquer fix?

There is a way to do a perfectly matched repair. I have seen this done on a high-end desk that had a huge gouge in it. There are furniture finished repair guys that use colored shalac sticks. The shalac is heated to a melting point and applied. The desk I'm m referring to was in the motion picture minority report.

@@LennonLuthierFinagler I'm talking about the hole in the guitar. Try would try replacing the missing piece that creates the hole in the guitar. It might not to financially worth it but it would be interesting for the KZread video.

@@LennonLuthierFinagler OK. I thought you stated you were going to part it out the guitar but wanted to heard from your audience what we would do. I was just stating if it were me and I felt like what you said, I just put the the guitar up for and come back to it later.

Can you simply cut out the affected area, create a "plug" to fit it, stain it & glue it in? Of course you'll have to add finish. However you're the Dr. Goid luck. (I'm thinking of a few fixes I saw Jerry do, at RSW.) Any way, i would be happy with the fix. It's on the back so it won't be noticed. You had a near impossible task, but you fixed it. Well done. Btw Jerry made a device, I've seen others use, that is a guitar tuning key mounted to a plastic base, I've seen wooden bases as well, with a hole in it, they simply turn the key & it tightens up. I'm new to luthiery, just did a great fret job on my 335 copy. I used tricks from various people on YT. I'm proud of myself. Lol! Who says a old dog can't learn new tricks?

You don't need to use super glue for a big patch. Super glue works for very small areas not the size of what you were using it for. The manufacturer didnt finish this guitar in superglue did they?

I would have refinished the entire back. That would require taking the old finish off and then sanding and filling of all small gaps from the patch. Then staining perhaps and adding a new finish to just the back. Why go half ass with superglue after all that trouble? @@LennonLuthierFinagler
